A word from Molyvos
A Livanos' family creation, Molyvos is the closest you can get to Greece in New York City. Critics agree that Molyvos serves perhaps the finest example of Greek cuisine in New York, and beyond. People from around the world have discovered that Molyvos serves the true foods and wines of Greece, along with a large dose of the country’s warm and lively spirit. Molyvos’ menu is built upon the home-style cooking of Greece using authentic recipes, classical cooking techniques and superior ingredients. The wine list, under the keen direction of Kamal Kouiri, is unique for its depth and breadth of excellent Greek labels and small producers from the Mediterranean whose wine deserves to be enjoyed. Molyvos also boasts a carefully selected Pre and Post-theatre menu that perfectly accompanies an evening of entertainment.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We found Molyvos online without a recommendation. Loved the menu and it was close to the Winter Garden, so we thought we would give it a try. Our waitress was amazing! She was super nice and so knowledgeable. She explained a few dishes to us, gave honest recommendations and knew exactly what Greek wine to bring me based other types of red varieties I like. Dinner service was fast, but we never felt rushed. The food was outstanding. My only complaint was that the baklava was not very good. But it didn't matter since everything else I ate was absolutely fantastic."

  • "The waiters know their Greek wine, and I suggest you take their advice."

  • "Molyvos is always our choice -- classic Greek food, very well prepared. The grilled octopus appetizer is where we always start, and then fish, lamb, rabbit, dolmades,... greek yogurt with herbs and honey, greek coffee just as it should be, We have never had a bad or even indifferent dish. And they take excellent care of your special needs --- whether it is getting to the concert on time or eating gluten free. The best of the Livanos' offerings, by our lights."

  • "So glad to have found this. You step through the door and you are transported a vast space beautifully appointed and well run. The service was terrific and the food beyond amazing. The prices were incredible for the food that you got. when they say small plate it really is, so that's, nice quality not quantity! the main courses were the perfect size as well. We will go back!!!!!"

  • "Wonderful food, service, ambiance.................the Moussaka, Spanokoptia, Katapolo were particularly outstanding,as was the Greek Salad. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Mid-town Manhattan."

  • "we have been to brunch here before, but it seems like the food this time was not very good, overly salted, bread basket not as good, maybe it was an off day."

  • "The best selection of Greek wines, probably anywhere."

  • "We were seated right next to a "large" number of teachers (at least 10-12 tables) ...they were having a meeting/dinner...?!?! Several speeches were made a loud voices!! A group like that should have it's own private room....we were separted by only a "thick curtain"....We had to listen to the speeches....NOT a pleasant dinning experience that night...!?!? It's a good thing that we've been dining at this restaurant for years and will probably continue to due so....the food is still very nice!?!?"

  • "My Encore's buddy and I now have a new favorite restaurant near City Center. Each of us enjoyed our pre-theater experience at Molyvos and are making plans to return when we don't have to rush to the theater."

  • "Very good food, beautiful setting, attentive servers although a little pricey for what it is."

  • "Molyvos has a new chef, and while it's immediately obvious in the plates, traditionalists have no need to fear. Many of the classic Greek dishes are still available, and still excellent; some have been reimagined and are also excellent. A great place to investigate Greek wines and spirits. The pre- and post-theater dinner option is still a great value and a good option when attending a concert at Carnegie Hall. Only negative to me: turn down the music, please; we want to chat with our dinner companions."

  • "Our service was attentive, but not intrusive. And the atmosphere was clean, bright, upbeat, with a touch of elegance. The food, however, was a bit mediocre. The stuffed cabbage was too wet, while the suggested entree of prawns with artichokes was bland and textureless."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "The food does not disappoint. The wine choice for the meal fit nicely, and the service was impeccable. However the restaurant now packs seats tightly and the comfort of the olden days is gone."

  • "We went after a show on a Tuesday evening. We shared some appetizer plates. Good Greek cuisine overall excepth fpr the grilled octopus that was excellent. Both tender and flavourful. They also recommended an excellent Greek red to accompany our food. We will definitely will return on a subsequent trip to New York"

  • "Molyvos has been a favorite for many years but since I moved from NY I haven't dined there for a while. I had the pleasure of lunching there recently and am happy to report that it is a good as ever and perhaps, better. First, the décor has been upgraded and the ambiance has markedly improved. I like the fact that tables are not on top of each other so that one can have a civilized conversation. The food is excellent and the lunch options have expanded to include some very tasty all veg dishes as well as the standards. We had the lamb pastisis, octopus salad, and lentil salad all of which were well prepared. I recommend Molyvos as a great choice for lunch while in midtown."

  • "My husband and I have not been to Molyvos for a few years but always remembered it fondly for the great food and service. We went this past Saturday night March 15th 2014 before going to Carnegie Hall for a concert and also because we were celebrating my husbands 60th birthday. When we got there and they showed us to our seat, the seat was unsatisfactory due being on top of a table of 8 people so we asked for another table. We told them where we would prefer to sit but they told us it was reserved, though there was no reserved sign on table. the service was slow, the restaurant noisy and we had to ask 4 different people for more bread! The food was OK certainly not worth the huge check and we are not inclinded to go back."

  • "As a frequent theater goer, I'm often stumped for where to eat before or after a show. Wanting to avoid the theater district touristy restaurants, we tried molyvos and were very pleased. We got there after hitting traffic and had very little time for dinner, as we had a show starting at 8:00. They got us our dinner expediently, and it was delicious. We will certainly be back."

  • "Crowded - even at 6pm. Food was great, but the service was brisk and we barely finished one course when the next was right up. We felt rushed. Probably won't go back, although it might be better on a second try."

  • "My second trip this restaurant was as good as the first. The restaurant was full and constant. The staff did not seem stressed at all and kept the mood cheerful. The food was brought out at all the right times and outstanding yet again - not one bad plate on a table of 7. We went for restaurant week and the menu was as good as the normal one. Can't highly recommend this place enough"

  • "The quiet atmosphere of this upscale Greek restaurant led to a pleasant dining experience. Cucumber martini added a twist and was both delightful and refreshing. The appetizer portion of grilled octopus was bursting with flavor and definite highlight of the meal. The hanger steak done perfectly and flavorful. Feta mashed potatoes? Yum! Very enjoyable evening."

  • "Meal service excellent. Coat checker impatient. Nice bread basket & olive offering before meal. Chicken soup not my favorite. Greek salad fairly fresh w/ feta cheese triangle the best part. Moussaka tasty although heavy so best with lighter appetizer & limit pre-meal bread. Grilled chicken plentiful portion. Chocolate baklava/almond cookie made nice lite dessert"

  • "Simply delicious! We decided to enjoy dinner for Restaurant Week and we were amazed at how light and flavorful all three courses were. Definitely blown away with the warm chocolate baklava. I decided to try the Greek God Nectar, a sweet Sangria type cocktail that I enjoyed through every sip and spoonful of fruit. We will recommend and will come back to feel as pampered as the Gods."

  • "This is the second time I've had dinner at Molyvos. The first time was with a group of 11 people, and it was a terrific experience. The service was excellent, our waiter suggested terrific wines, and the food was wonderful. They really know how to prepare fish. The restaurant is a big midtown space, but the layout is surprisingly intimate. I took my husband for a pre-opera dinner this week and the service was really off. We had an unfashionably early reservation, at 5:30pm. There was already a queue of 8-10 people waiting to be seated. There were two hostesses and 3-4 wait staff hanging around, so it was frustrating to be told they weren't seating anyone yet, and waiting 10 minutes to be seated."
