Mokomandy is one of our go-to places. Whether we order one of our standbys, like Jambalaya, or something new, like the Country Meat platter, we are never disappointed. Their food is unlike any other offering in the area and it always pleases the palate. Whether you are out for a date or out with a small group, Mokomandy's dinning-style will keep you engaged with your dinning partners. It is a fun time. The format of starters, small plates, medium plates and large plates is conducive to sharing. And, sharing makes for a fun evening and really enhances group interaction. Not everyone will like every dish, but there is enough variety for everyone to find something they like, especially if you are sharing your dishes. The bar is top notch. They have inventive mixed drinks and a most excellent beer list. One of our favorite drinks is the Sazarac. Although, it's hard not to go for one their many beers. If you have room, Mokomandy's deserts make for a nice end to your evening. My personal favorite is the gateau de sirop, but everyone I have tried has been excellent. The servers are always on their game and work together well as a team. The servers also do a good job explaining the menu and making recommendations along the way. So, don't be shy, ask for their input and then take their advice. You will not be disappointed.

What a wonderful find! We dined at Mokomandy on Sat., 11/22 and can't wait to return. The Foie Gras Dumplings had a wonderful texture and outstanding taste. Next, the Wild Boar Bowl with Local Duck Egg was the hit of the evening! We finished with the Modern Korean Scallops, which were good, but didn't match the taste of the prior two dishes. If the owner/manager asked, I would suggest a few minor touches to the room to soften the large rectangular shape, ex. strategically placed flowing gauzy white cloth from the ceiling to the floor. The room was packed, and the diners were enthusiastic and happy resulting in people having to increase volume in speaking to table partners. I would recommend adding acoustic material to absorb sound. Can't wait to return!!!

First off, our server, Jason was awesome! He remembered my boyfriend and I from 2 weeks ago and he remembered ALL of my allergies (even the ones I'm severely allergic to)! He was so attentive and came back to the table many times to ask how things were and to see if we needed anything else. When we ordered, he went through every ingredient in his head and said that it was good for me to eat and that he'd have them fry the onions in the back fryer where no fish/nuts are cooked there. He also had great recommendations for drinks/food. The food: Oh my goodness. The Duck Foie Gras Dumplings are out of this world amazing; they are so tender. We tried the venison meatballs this time and they were cooked perfectly and had a little kick to them. The garlic grits and candied carrots were cooked perfectly and still had a little bite to them. My boyfriend had the Boar Bowl and he finished the whole thing! My Mom and boyfriend shared the short ribs and we had never tried purple rice before but we liked it! It had a little bite to it but had a good flavor! The dessert: The Chocolate Pot Au Creme was so delicious. It was like a chocolate mousse/custard. It melts in your mouth. The chocolate flavor is so rich and amazing. The lavender saffron cookies that went with it tasted great! My Mom also had the Pumpkin White Chocolate Pie. So good! We cannot wait to go back!

The food here is amazing - both the Creole and the Korean dishes were outstanding. It's not fusion which is what I was worried about but instead smaller plates of both flavors that really worked well together. Our server Jason was very knowledgable about the wine pairing and recommended a very nice Tempernillo that paired with everything! This was a great find tucked away in a strip mall of Sterling. worth the drive!

Restaurant is right down the street. Went opening week and a few times the first year. Don't know why I waited so long to return. Last night's meal was excellent--the service from Jason and others more than excellent. Make your reservations early--I could only get 5:00--which worked out fine as it gets very busy after 5:45.

We went for the food but were completely surprised by the craft cocktail list. It's hard to find great drinks that take time to make but Mokmandy nailed it. Girlfriend and I are both in the business so we judge a lot but everything was a great experience. The desert came in a tin foil which was a little awkward presentation but that didn't take away our feelings about the foie gras dumplings or wild boar bowl. Who would have thought to mix rice, kimchi and wild boar? Great combination. We live in Purcellville which is about a 40 minute drive but we have heard many great things about this place and have even sent customers to Mokomandy so it only seemed right to eat here. For as much as we ate and drank, the tab was well worth it for two people. We plan on dining here again in the near future. Thanks.

Love this find tucked away in a shopping center off the beaten path! Lots of people know about it though since it's very hard to get reservations here. But it's definitely worth the trouble to sample their inventive take on Korean tapas. Love the short rib sliders and also the grilled scallops on sweet potato cakes. Nice thing about tapas is you can save room for one (or two) of their lovely sweet finishes. We had a berry cobbler and had to resist licking the plate. Will be back to sample more!

Enjoyed our meal at Mokomandy so much we took friends there this time. Same waiter and service was just as good for 6 as it was for 2! We tried several dishes including the dumplings, noodles, jalopena hushpuppies, boar and bulgogi. Everything was delicious. Only downside was now there will be two more couples trying to get reservations for an already crowded restaurant!

Tough getting a reservation on Friday, buy they fit us in when someone left early. Our waiter, Jason, was amazing as he even remembered the wine I had had there about a month ago. A few new choices on the menu and most of the many dishes we had were wonderful...the one exception was the Octopus with Spaghetti, it was only rather good. A neighborhood gem.

Mokomandy offers both Cagun and Korean dishes in a small-plates format. The combination really works. The food is outstanding -- great favors, well-balance dishes and a super selection allowing one to truly customize a meal. The servers are great -- knowledgeable and personable. This little room in a Sterling VA strip mall would fit right in in a big city foodie scene. Great spot.

An inauspicious location in strip mall in the VA boonies, but do not be deterred! One of the best (if not the best) spot I've been to in the DMV. Comparable to the best spots in DC. Pot roast sliders, jambalaya, bulgogi, pot of chocolate, and beignets were among our favorites, but you cannot go wrong with anything. Great cocktails and solid wine list as well. Mokomandy is certainly a good restaurant. The food and service were very good. The restaurant itself is small and the tables are fairly close together, so it is not a good place for an intimate dinner or lunch. My wife and I went there for a special occasion. it's a friendly place for a nice meal. There are not too many places were you can order Korean and Cajun items on the same menu.

A bit of a let down, honestly. It's a tapas style modern/korean/cajun restraunt. We ordered 7 items total. The food was a mixed bag of good and bad. Two items were very good (foie gras dumplings and korean potroast sliders), three were good (kimchi, poutine, and cracklins), and two others were downright bad (PEI mussles and hush puppies). The mussles came in a flavorless sauce with burnt bread. The hush puppies lacked seasoning and were far too moist. Was not impressed by this place, but I would like to give them another try. Maybe this was an off night.

My wife and I went for her birthday. We've been wanting to try Mokomandy for a while but just weren't able to find the time. I am not a fan of tapas style dining. However, the small plates here were perfect for the two of us. Unique items on the menu gave us that sense of adventure which we both desire. The selection of beers is outstanding. Our waiter was great. He was knowledgeable about both the beers and food and never tried to sell us on the most expensive items. It's tough finding such a gem in an ocean of chain restaurants. We will be back.

I was disappointed in the food. The kimchi pancakes were small and burnt. Prob due to the fact the batter to make the quarter size pancakes were soo small it would either result in being underdone or overdone. Also, not one of them had a piece of kimchi in them. As for the Bulgogi, the portion was small, and the meat was overpowered by the pepper paste sauce. As far as the boar bowl, it would have been good if it was served HOT. If you serve it a sunny side up egg, the rice & hot pot should be steaming hot. Also, service was sub par. The waiter served our ENTREES in price meals! They brought one entree first to my husband, then another entree, then mine. ALL our meals were cold.

The ramen buckwheat was very disappointing. $14 dollars for a tiny bowl and it didn't taste good. The shrimp gumbo was tiny and salty. Short rib wasn't substantial but really thin slices bulgogi. The kimchi pancake was mushi. Our waiter was very nice. Overall, the meal was disappointing and the bill came out to $280+ for the 4 of us (includes two round of drinks). The only saving grace was the foie gras duck dumplings, shrimp étouffée and their cocktail drinks. (White sangria and cucumber mojito)

My husband and I selected this restaurant randomly because we were going to be in the area == what a find! The hostess and all of the wait staff were friendly, welcoming and I liked the tag-team style of waiting our table where they cooperated to make sure we were served well. The scallops were excellent; the roasted kale was excellent; the dumplings were excellent and the lettuce wraps were excellent. The only dish not as impressive was the roast pork. I liked it and my husband did not. But since I'm writing this review and he isn't, it gets 5 stars!
