The service was good and the ambiance on the 2nd floor(albeit tight)was very nice. The band was fun and engaging. We started off with a cocktail, I had a Jack Daniels cocktail that was very good and my GF enjoyed a deliciously prepared peach and tonic cocktail, they were both fantastic. The wine list was pretty good as well, something for all tastes and budgets. The only negative was the dinner itself. I ordered the Pepper sauce strip-loin and though my steak was well prepared (I ordered RARE and received borderline medium..)and unfortunately there just wasn't enough(barely any)pepper-sauce, almost none on my plate. As for my GF, she ordered the braised lamb in mille-feuilles and it was very dry.Nothing to rave over. Overpriced for quality.

This is my 2nd time to this restaurant. The first time blew me away. The 2nd time was just as good except my dish (the fish) had barely any flavor, but that's ok. The band on the 2nd floor was fantastic and the location is great for a nice walk afterwards. Definitely going back.

They serve good food but it is too noisy so you can't enjoy music and atmosphere. If you have a family, you don't need to worry about others. You and your family can make noise. No problem. However if you are couples, you had better avoid this place.

Mediocre food. Horrible service. We placed our orders at 9. By 10 we were still waiting for our main courses. Our server told us that to make up for the delay, the manager wanted to buy us a drink. By the time our food arrived at 10:30, we had consumed our bottle of wine. We said we would take our free drinks as two glasses of wine to eat with our meal. Our server agreed. But the two glasses appeared on our bill. When we asked her about it, she told us that the free drinks could only be in the form of port. She said there was nothing she could do as "it was already put into the computer." The manager agreed to take it off, but only after we insisted. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience.

We went on the Wednesday night and it was very busy but service was good. The atmosphere was typically French bistro with good menu and extensive wine list. We enjoyed complimentary bread and tap water was brought and refilled. There was a good selection of fish on the menu and I had the trout with roasted vegetables and risotto which was a nice combination. Our meal was accompanied by live jazz but as our booking was later we missed a bit of this, go early if you want to get the whole show, there is no cover charge for entertainment. All in all a good evening and plenty to do in the area after.

Modavie is one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal. The live jazz, ambience and service are exemplary. I've always brought colleagues and friends here for a memorable and fun evening. This last time was a little disappointing and was probably my only my mediocre dining experiene there. It took a long time (20 mins) for the waitress to notice we were in her area, another half hour for the food and yet longer or her to notice we were finished for the bill. Yet , this is still one of my favourite haunts and I would like to consider this incident an anomaly when weighed against the several lovely experiences I have enjoyed at this restaurant.

Excellent Rack of Lamb. Perfectly cooked and tender. The potatoes and sauces were very good. Our son had the Lamb Burger and loved it. The Onion Soup au Gratin was terrific. The cocktails had punch - nothing watered down here. The wine selection was also good. Overall this was a very good meal and priced within reason. The gentlemen (Angelo or Lorenzo - can't remember) who greeted us was warm, friendly, welcoming and really took interest in our getting seated and he dropped by our table from time to time to ask how everything was.

It is a must go to restaurant if you are in Montreal, especially if you like lamb chops. Delicious. Antoine, our waiter remembered us from the last time we were in Montreal, in May. We were impressed and appreciated it. Friends made the reservation and we ate there for the first time. We were traveling and spent a night in Montreal just so we could go to Modavie. Nuts? Maybe, but the food was so good.

We really enjoyed the food. My daughter (13) ordered the rack of lamb. We weren't sure if it would be to her liking. She devoured it. The other dishes were equally satisfying. Creme brûlée for dessert. Large portion and very delicious. The entertainment was enjoyable and added to the ambiance without completely overpowering it. The view from our corner table was lovely. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and prompt. We would definitely go back if we find ourselves in old Montreal again.

we had a reservation and were seated right away. The main reason we picked this place was for the live jazz. A few minutes after we sat down, the live music stopped. The musicians took a break. We never heard them again. So much for live jazz music! The food was mediocre at best. The service was good, but that could not make up for the rest of our dining experience.

Mondavie has live jazz every night: when I made our OT reservation I requested to be as close to the music as possible, however the hostess seated us behind a post. I asked to be re-seated, but she gestured to where the musicians were setting up and said that was close enough. She then sat several walk-ins (she didn't consult her computer) at tables right up front. After dinner, I asked our server if we could finish our drinks at the empty bar for a better view. She said she would have to ask the manager. When she came back, she said we would have to purchase new drinks at the bar if we wanted to sit there. It seemed stingy that after spending >$100 on dinner we would have to do that. I finally asked the manager directly to get around it.

We ate at Mondavie on a Sunday evening with our two children (7 and 9), while my husband and I would just rate the food as average our children had a wonderful experience! The owner, Lorenzo, was very attentive to the kids and their spaghetti bolognese (sauce was clearly homemade by Lorenzo and delicious) were fabulous! At the end of the dinner he bought them each a bowl of ice cream at no charge as he was so happy that they enjoyed their meal. I would definitely go back there as he created a memorable experience for our kids that they still keep talking about. It was there favorite restaurant of our trip to Canada.
