  • "Can't say enough great things about this place! We had a party of 5 people on Saturday night at 9:00pm and everything was fantastic! Our Server was extremely nice and helpful. We all tried each other's dishes and there was not a single "meh" item. Only slightly disappointing was that I had noted it was a birthday dinner in my reservation and they did not do anything for my friend's birthday, but they sang and stuff for a person's birthday at the table next to us. Not a big deal, we didn't even think anything of them not doing anything for my friend until they were singing for the other table. Anyway, Great food! Great service! Great drinks!"

  • "We went there to meet with some friends. We ordered cocktails while we waited and all of them were excellent. Food is also very good. It is a tapas style restaurant, so make sure you order sufficient quantity and variety of specialty dishes. It was a bit loud so we could not hear each other very well, but other than that, it is a cool spot to eat and have drinks."

The staff were warm and helpful--this was a great place to try something new before catching a show downtown. It's a great location for walking around downtown as well."

  • "Used to go to the old place at La Paloma marketplace and always love the food, Chef Zarate food is amazing. T he new place is a bit noisy but all in all had a great date with my wife after going to a different place in Hollywood where we had to wait for over an hour for food, tapas style serving was ok for us but maybe not for others."

  • "Hands down, this is one of the best all-around meals I've had in all my years in LA. The layers of flavor in each dish were just superb. I'm not even exaggerating when I say EVERYTHING was delicious. We had the causa de cangrejo, anticucho de pulpo, and a special, the amberjack tiradito, to start. After ordering they came out super fast and everything hit the spot. The causa was perfection and the green sauce on the octopus was divine. For our main courses we had the arroz con mariscos, estofado de alpaca, and the estofade de carne. Again, just superb! Our server was very knowledgable and helped explain a lot of the specific ingredients we didn't recognize on the menu. I cannot wait to go back and try more things, especially the oxtail."

  • "Great food, fun environment. The only downside is that our food was not served together. One salad arrived within minutes, and it was 10 minutes more until the next was served. Same thing happened with the main courses. This really cut into this being a pleasurable experience. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful. He had a thorough understanding of each dish and seemed to enjoy explaining them."

However, the serving staff was too efficient, coupled with us ordering our meals all at once made us feel rushed as our order kept coming. I understand that's how the tapas type of places work and they bring in the order when they are ready. I wish we would have ordered more strategically to allow us to take our time and enjoy our meal instead of feeling rushed, but that's our bad, nothing against the establishment. Every meal we had had such amazing flavors!"

  • "The beef dish I ordered off the menu was good and flavorful. I like that they give you two sides with everything. Usually a salad and my other side was a quinoa and veggie dish that was good. My friends thought there was too much sauce on the pasta. It was a strong and flavorful dish so didn't need a ton of sauce. You might ask for light sauce. I was a little disturbed to see Alpaca meat on the menu. Alpacas are a very sweet and cute animal that are raised for their fur and many people have as pets. I cannot imagine eating one, nor have I ever seen it on a menu! Our server was very, very slow during lunch. We watched every table get served but us and were the last to leave."

This has perhaps allowed more of the Peruvian aspects of the dishes to shine through. Still the ONLY aji de gallina that we have found in the Greater Los Angeles area that is any good other than making it at home. No other restaurant comes close."

The plates are a wee but small (buratta salad has teeny bits of this cheese which is disappointing. But if you have oodles of cash and not a big appetite this is the place for amazing flavor combinations."

  • "Our first Peruvian dining experience and it was great. Three different plates and each was a winner. Roasted beet salad was prepared with fresh beets, nice tasting sauce and presentation. Octopus with a unique chili pepper seasoning in just the right amount. Final tasting was the portabella mushroom, served over a potato with bean mixture and topped with a fried egg. Excellent. Next time we have tickets for Disney Hall, Mo Chica is on the top of our list for pre-concert dining."

However, the atmosphere was extremely loud making it difficult to carry on a conversation. Like most of the places we visited in LA we felt rushed to finish with servers pulling plates before we had finished and the staff eyeing tables they thought should be about done. Our table was right by a door to the back room. Wondering if Open Table reservations get the worst tables in the room."

The food was good, service was good, etc. The one issue we had was that the valet service was more than 20 minutes late and in the end I was charged $8, however, the website says that it should cost $6.50. The whole valet experience was pretty awful."

If you want to have a quiet dinner and converse, it is best to eat early (it gets a bit noisy after 6pm). Appreciate that the seating was not 'family style', what tends to be the norm now days. Definitely planning many future return visits."

  • "The food and cocktails at Mo-Chica are great, and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate (especially the wonderful lomo saltado). Unfortunately, the ambiance left a lot to be desired. We were seated at a high two-top in the corridor between the front and back rooms. It was dark, a bit chilly and an awkward spot. (It's the corridor where the bathrooms are, so you felt like you were eating in a walk way.) They really shouldn't put reservations at those tables, as they aren't at all desirable. Overall, that detracted from the experience quite a bit."

Pan con tuna was my favorite dish. Only downside is that it's very noisy so conversation across a table is difficult.   • "I must admit, I made a reservation at Mo-Chica in part because of Top Chef. However, the restaurant's food and service far exceeded my expectations. Our server was friendly and helpful. The food arrived staggered--as one hopes with small plates. Each dish was incredibly flavorful and unique. I live in DC, but would happily go back to Mo-Chica the next time I visit family there."
