Mo-chica is a vibrant, urban restaurant serving Chef Ricardo Zarate’s modern interpretations on traditional Peruvian comfort food. Diner Reviews
  • "Staff was very attentive and competent. The food was not quite to our taste, but the desserts (tres leches cake) were yummy."

  • "Great for foodies! Tapas are all delicious and well made. Staff is on point and helpful. Note that venue is a little tight so make sure to make a reservation!"

  • "We were seated late, so we got free drinks to make up for it which was great. Best food I've had at DineLA. Every single dish was phenomenal!"

  • "I went for DineLA and it did not disappoint. From start to finish, my meal was bursting with flavor. I had the ceviche, braised shortribs, and tres leches cake. I would definitely recommend Mo-Chica to others."

  • "Absolutely great food. My bf is a total foodie and I was left with the task of picking out a restaurant. Ran across it through the DineLA website and he loved it. I'm a vegetarian and the options for me were super tasty as well."

  • "Mo-Chica is wonderfully inspired cooking. Ceviches are incredible and the flavors are layered, fresh and clean! The short rib was amazing as well. Our server was engaging and warm. We had the restaurant week/Dine LA specials, but I've been there an ordered off of the regular menu as well. Moving the the east coast and will definitely miss this place. Price is good too."

  • "Mo-Chica is a happening downtown restaurant. It's a bit on the noisy side but for our group of three it was bearable. The food was topnotch with truly exotic flavors. We orders six dishes to share. All were given thumbs up reviews. Favorites were the quinoa risotto, beef saltado and the grilled prawns. We rounded out the meal with a grilled artichoke, roasted beet salad and yellow-fin tuna sashimi style. All dishes are a small plate serving and our server was correct in advising 2 plates per person. We didn't leave hungry but were not uncomfortable either. The staff were pleasant and attentive. We will come back. It sounds like lunch is a real deal at $18."

  • "Definitely recommend this downtown LA restaurant for couples or groups - great food, inventive dishes. We dined as a group for four and ordered a variety of dishes, much like tapas, and shared. A wonderful opportunity for your tastebuds to sample the varietal cuisine. The staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. We had many questions since this was our first time and our waiter was very helpful. I would definitely recommend a reservation on weekend nights - we got there about 5:30pm which was a perfect time before it got crowded. Had no trouble conversing, noise level was moderate. Interior design is clever and whimsical (if seated in the back room take a look up while walking back and you'll see what I mean)."

  • "I really had a great experience here. The food was delicious and waitress was very sweet and cool. Definitely recommend this to anyone who digs Peruvian cuisine!"

  • "The BEST place in LA to eat in my opinion. You can never go wrong with any of their food, cocktail, beverages, etc. Great for groups or if you are on a date."

  • "The chef does Mochica, Picca, and Paiche. They are all a little different.n. Mochica is fun casual. Picca was a little pretentioues and we're not that helpful in suggesting dishes. Paiche was totally different. A very hip vibrant beach crowd. They were great for the sashimi and ceviche. I ebpnjoy Paiche and Mochica ."

  • "The service was very good and the place had a good vibe. The ceviche was very good and so was the brazino. The potato appetizer was just meh. The short ribs were good but felt the flavor was kind of bland. The risotto was good but not stellar in the flavorful department either. The flourless chocolate cake was really dense and kind of heavy. The tres leches cake was surprisingly better. Overall... not enough bang for your buck here."

  • "The food was incredible. The lunch specials were reasonably priced and well portioned. Everyone of us enjoyed their food and want to go back to try other things. Their lomo saltado was the best I've ever had. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant was clean and had an energetic vibe. I will definitely go back."

  • "This was the first time eating Peruvian food. And therefore, I don't know what is the "Normal" Peruvian food is, but this restaurant was GOOD!!!!!! Dishes comes in a nice adequate portion where you can share with your companies and try many dishes, flavor was unique and all of the dishes taste different (and delicious), and I will Definitely!!!! Come back again and Strongly recommend this restaurant. Only disappointment was the dessert. Again, that might was the Peruvian desert, but will not try it again. :P"

  • "Tried the Braised Alpaca - the idea was interesting but the meat itself wasn't very unique in flavor nor texture. The curry potato stew was pretty good. I would say based on what I tried the food is okay nothing really stood out. The service was good however. Our waiter was funny, friendly and speedy. The place was kind of small but okay for dining off lunch hours or you would probably have to wait. Overall my experience was good."

  • "Finally got a chance to try another of Ricardo Zarate's masterpieces. His other two are Picca and Paiche. The Ceviche and Papa Luwainka appetizers were both fresh and tasty with a kick. The braised short rib and grilled chicken were cooked to perfection and both so flavorful with good sized portions. Finally, loved the Tres Leches cake. The chocolate cake was good but not my favorite. And a very refreshing white sangria."

  • "The food at the restaurant was amazing and the drinks were equally as delicious. The service was lacking and the special menu for restaurant week was a little underwhelming, especially given the price. If noisy places are not your thing, I would not recommend it. Again, food was delicious delicious though!"

  • "Great creative food Nd exceptionally good service made Mo-Chica a great experience. We had a lot of fun and lived dinner. Just noisy but worth it."

  • "this is a trendy foodie place that uses big words to describe their "fancy" food, and then can't deliver on what is advertised. small size tapas-style plates. service was only fair....food came out before drinks even though drinks were ordered first. they never even brought out one of our ordered plates..... ambience was fair....not all seating is created equal....some are tables with stools near the bathroom....not appealing when paying higher prices for small plates. Maybe try this place for happy hour? I don't think I will"

  • "This is a place to go for good food if you don't mind the noise level. The menu is limited but the food is good. The wait staff does not go above and beyond here at all. There are better places."

  • "I've been to other Peruvian restaurants, but this one tops them all."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "I'm not one to write reviews, because, well, I just read reviews. Mo-Chica was so good, I felt compelled to write a glowing review of it. The Peruvian flavors were unlike anything I've ever tasted before. Truly an amazing restaurant. Go."

  • "We have been to MoChica many times. I always find something new that surprises. The Pisco Sours are made completely from scratch. They're better than the best in Peru. The portions are full and the flavors are unique, but what makes this restaurant really something extraordinary is the complete vibe. The staff go out of their way to make YOUR evening special. It's worthwhile to ask for your server's opinions on the dishes. From the moment that you are greeted at the reception desk to the moment you bid farewell, Everyone there communicates how much they value your patronage."

  • "Five of us had drinks and dinner. Its tapas style let us share & try a bunch of dishes - all were wonderful and interesting. The pisco sours were delicious. Service was friendly with just enough attention. Our first trip there was a success."

  • "Good food, but grossly overprized. Ceviche is about 5 morsels of fish, comes to $3 a piece. Seriously!"

  • "We live nearby and have been here before, but came on June 28, 2014 specifically for "National Ceviche Day," for which "LA Eater" said: DOWNTOWN—Mo-Chica is doing a slew of ceviche dishes on June 28 for National Ceviche Day. Think Lobster Ceviche for $15 with aji mirasol and sea urchin leche de tigre. LA Eater had it wrong, but Zarate honored the advertisement and came up with 2 "specials" in about 5 minutes. The shrimp ceviche with sweet chili sauce was excellent, as was the tuna ceviche with ricotta & grapefruit. Also had our favorites: Anticucho de Pulpo (octopus) and the Colita de Res (oxtail)."

  • "Interesting twist on Peruvian fare. If you like sushi you'll love the ceviche here. Carefully crafted food selections with layers of flavor that I enjoyed eating!"

  • "Fun, energetic, tasty. If you are looking for this then this is it. Was disappointed in the artichoke. Wasn't cooked enough, was very small for sharing, not much flavor. Octopus that was grilled and had a spicy sauce was delicious....was served on top of delicious potatoes. Quinoa with wild mushrooms was fabulous. Would have ordered more, but we were full. All of the items that were served at the tables around us looked so interesting. Wish we knew what each item was so we could order a different variety next time."

  • " One of our favorites. Peruvian with tapas and each one better than the last! We will go here before theater at the Ahmanson! Plan on being back often!!"

  • "We had a wonderful time at this restaurant. This was the final spot of a day for food stops and it was the highlight. We shared everything, the cocktails were great, the seafood dishes were fresh, and it was an evening of taste this, taste that because of the small plates. It was fun and gave us a chance to taste a lot of items on the menu. Definitely fit for foodies."

  • "The restaurant is located near the corner of 7th and Grand, so it is very convenient for a night out in downtown LA. The ambience was ruined for me right away by a homeless woman who seemed to be high as a kite and was hugging unsuspecting guests as they waited for a table. The restaurant was full and noisy and vibrant. The food was absolutely delicious. They masterfully executed creative combinations - the quinoa mushroom risotto and the ceviche albacore were two of my favorites. The service was typical American - lots of hovering and checking in, anxious about clearing the table the second you put your fork down, rushing to get the bill, etc.. However the food trumps any negatives."

  • "The food was great, from the salads to the dessert! The music loud, the talk loud the restaurant atmosphere Funky. We are senior citizens and loved it but if you are fussy, don't like noise don't go!"

  • "Excellent ceviche and everything else we got was just as good. Our waiter Jason was charming and professional. He brought out a little tray of 3 cookies with a candle on it since he knew we were celebrating my birthday. A very nice touch!! Will definitely go back."

  • "Despite the late seating for our reserved table and the fact that the food came out with no regard to who actually ordered it, the food was very good."
