Diner Reviews
  • "Ambiance was nice. A small neighborhood restaurant. Fairly clean. We had 6 different items and not once did they change our share plates. Izakaya restaurants frequently offer new clean dishes. No explanation of what dishes were served. Although we did the ordering, we didn't know what they were until we bit into them. No offering of second round of cocktails. No call backs on how things were going. Crispy karate flounder was the best dish ordered. Everything else was basic and nothing to rave about. I probably will not patronize this restaurant for a while. This was my 5 visit dining there within the past few years"

  • "I always liked Miyabi for its service and food. So even with the parking issue, I would venture out to that restaurant. But this time, the restaurant was PACKED, PACKED. and it's a tiny restaurant so I felt quite cramped in. Overall the service was one notch below the usual excellence."

  • "Traditional and authentic food, but with a modern twist. Dishes are prepared superbly, and flovors are authentically delicious. Dishes are a bit pricy, great for those special occassions."

  • "My friend wanted to go to real Japanese restaurant with us(I am Japanese) and other fiends, and I brought them to the restaurant. Everything ok, except sushi rice. The rice was very soft like as rice porridge, and I couldn't taste vinegar. Sashimi is good, but the sushi rice made bad sushi. I have never eaten the kind sushi rice. Store bought sushi is better than the restaurant sushi. Sushi chef was looks like Japanese middle age guy, I couldn't believe he served that kind of sushi for customers. I don't know I go there again."

  • "We had some interesting foods. But overall, everything was delicious. It's a small place, a little hard to find. But based on yelp reviews we looked for Go Bananas, parked our car there, and found Miyabi quite easily. Parking wasn't a problem for us. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this place. The dishes are on the small side, japanese style. Sometimes it leaves you with wanting to order a second plate. But it allows you to eat a variety of different things. Service was good. The food came out realtively one after the other. Didn't have to wait too long in between dishes. Would I return? YES, when I have a fatter wallet!"

  • "Huge menu with a long list of daily specials. Unfortunately they were out of uni but the hamachi and hotate sushi was high quality and excellent. The hamachi kama was the smallest sized order I've ever seen but I liked that we could order kushiyaki, sushi and other items. They have so much to choose from and even the onigiri rice ball was excellent. Good quality rice and very good quality nori that didn't get chewy after sitting for awhile. Maybe the best tsukune I've had too. Nice texture and the secret sauce was delicious without being overpowering. Have to love the chicken skin kushiyaki too, especially with that special sauce! Even the next morning, I kept thinking about how I can't wait to get back to this restaurant soon!"

  • "To be honest It was a bit pricey for the amount of food you get but the waiter was really friendly & the ambiance was relaxing. I just wish the seating arrangements were a little more private, like if you looked to the left of you you'd see other guests staring at you. It's small but we liked that and overall the food was gooooOooOoodd. Quality over quantity is always the best. :) it's a great place for a date!"

  • "Wonderful food, gracious service! Though located on a busy street and not easy to find, it is well worth searching for! The grilled scallops were among the best I have ever tasted."

  • "The chicken dishes and shrimp tempura roll were delicious!! The other sushi selections such as maguro were very fresh and were very generous in portion. The atmosphere is very cozy. We will definitely be back."

  • "I have written before and wanted to supplement my recommendation of this restaurant as the best casual Japanese restaurant, by saying that it has become a favorite "go to" restaurant to take guests. It seems that we go to Miyabi about once a month and keep finding things on the menu that we want to try."

  • "This must be the best Japanese restaurant in Hawaii!! So glad a friend introduced me to this place. I frequent the top Japanese places on yelp but the food and service here beats them all! Try the namero and hamachi kama! Sushi is awesome too!"

  • "Before you go here, take a look at Google Streetview ahead of time because the the storefront is plain and unmarked. The service was slow. There were two servers for, perhaps, 8 tables and a few seats at the sushi bar. It took a long time to be served and, at the end of the meal, we struggled for ten minutes to get the check. The background music was a selection of over-played classical hits that (luckily) was drowned out once the place filled up. However! The food was very good. We had a sashimi plate with hamachi and maguro that was excellent. Little neck clam soup with garlic - very nice. omelet with crab was very well prepared. Roll of spicy tuna with onion - exceptional. Unagi roll - very good if slightly oversauced."

  • "Miyabi is a tapas style Japanese restaurant. It is our favorite Japanese restaurant, in a city filled with Japanese restaurants. It is small (only about 10 tables) and has high quality food with friendly personal service. Parking is accross the street at Go Bananas."
