A word from Mixto
Mixto is a two-story natural wood and exposed brick building located on the east side of downtown Philadelphia on the historic Antique Row. We have been opened for ten consecutive years. Our vision has been to bring an array of flavors of the Cuban, Latin American and Caribbean cuisine to the Center City area.

We are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with bar service and an extensive wine selection.

Mixto offers outdoor dining with a South Beach Miami ambiance during the spring, summer & fall when the weather permits.

Diner Reviews
  • "Service was outstanding food was even better. It's a do again. "

  • "I have dined at Mixto for both brunch and dinner over 18 times, this past Sunday I went with a friend of mine whom I haven't seen in a while. I made reservations and ended up waiting a additional 25 minutes for my table. My waiter was horrible I've never seen him there before, he rushed us from the moment we arrived until we left, he brought the check out 10 minutes after we received our food which I found to be disturbing because he didn't even know if we were finished or not. When I started to order my food I wasn't aware that we can no longer order empanadas for brunch and when I asked for them he had a huge attitude stating how I can't order until 5pm. Very unhappy with my service this past Sunday I won't be back for brunch."

  • "This is a beautifully appointed place that is very popular with the younger crowd. In good weather the windows are open and one can experience the urban setting. The food is excellent with great drinks. It can get very noisy depending on when one comes. It was a bit humid the last time we were there so I would have preferred the AC functioning but I understand that the vibrant younger crowd did not care."

  • "Mixto was delicious and had a great vibe! We took out of town friends who love good food but didn't want anything pretentious. The service at Mixto was friendly and attentive. Not obtrusive. It just felt like they were really interested in looking after you and your dining experience. The food was perfectly cooked and NOT over seasoned or salty. Our only problem was the very loud bachelorette party but who can control one of those? Ha!"

  • "Very noisy, haphazard service diminishes the once good Latin dining experience. Food choices and quality are still pretty good as well as location and ambiance. Special Caribbean pre-fixe menu was good and well priced along with happy hour specials. Since they have taken reservations, makes it a good choice for pre-theater/concert on Broad."

  • "From the bar service to table, there was just the right touch of attentiveness; not too much, not too little. "Shout out" to our server Jesus..."

  • "We were looking for a place to eat before our show at the Kimmel Center. We read Mixto's menu on line and thought why not? What a pleasant surprise!! Everything, the food, drinks, staff, was wonderful!! We had Sunday Brunch and can't wait to go back to have dinner. The portions were just the right size. I had the Colombian Fritta with tostones. It was delicious!! The rest of my party enjoyed their meals as well. The staff was very attentive and everything came to the table fairly quickly. The noise level was a little loud for my taste, especially at a brunch, but not enough to keep me from going back. We were a party of five, and our bill was under $170. Definitely worth the trip!"

  • "We went to Mixto to celebrate my husband's birthday. I let the restaurant know through my open table reservation that it was his birthday and if they could possibly give us nice seating to make the meal even more special. They not only gave us a lovely window seat but they sent over a piece of cake with a cake at the end of our meal. That was the first time someone actually accommodated my request and sent over a cake. Loved the food. Loved the atmosphere. Will definitely go back."

  • "Our first time at Mixto exceeded our expectations - very energetic vibe, varied menu, delicious fresh food and friendly, prompt and attentive service. We had a great dinner and made it to our show at the Academy in plenty of time. Will go back!"

  • "I have been going to Mixto with my friends for many years. It is always a pleasure to introduce a person to the great food and beautiful surroundings. We were all very happy with the Arepas and fried pork skins appetizer. Can't wait to return."

  • "Brunch didn't disappoint! I had never been there for brunch, but love Mixto appetizers, drinks, and dinners, thought I'd give it a try with a bunch of friends. Glad I did! Coffee is great, they had great looking drinks which I didn't try this time around, but will next time! Brunch options are varied and something for everyone. I am a vegetarian and found multiple options instead of a token single "option" to "choose" from :) Service was okay, but I know the server was busy so don't want to be harsh about her not being very chatty!"

  • "First time visit. Our server lenny was great. Bar drinks were slow to come out, not the servers fault. At here before a show at the academy. Short walk to the show. Fun energetic place. Not a quiet romantic place but a great date nite spot. Food outstanding. Willbe back."

  • "I was 5 minutes late on a Wednesday night. They gave away my table to a couple while my dinner partner was in line right behind them. Their response was>>> I should have called if I was going to be late and sorry but they can't do anything for me. They directed me to the bar where there was no seats or space. Meanwhile 8 tables were sitting there with no people at them. The food was average, the service less than average.......I don't see myself going here again."

  • "The service was outstanding for this level of restaurant: attentive, charming, efficient and polite. The variety of food was also excellent: the appetizers were incredible and the food was more than satisfactory, although some of it was a little bland. Overall the experience was a good one DOWNSTAIRS. We were able talk, something we were not able to do the last time we were UPSTAIRS. Upstairs is far too noisy and the last 3 times I have been there , it was an actual nightmare to attempt a conversation. They really need to do something about the acoustics (fabric to absorb the sound would help a lot!). Other than that, it is a good place to go."

  • "I loved the ambiance of this place-- it was warm and inviting. The hostesses could smile a bit more, but overall the service was great. My water glass was never empty and it wasn't only our server coming to check on us. The food was excellent and there are a variety of choices on the menu. I would have liked to see more Cuban salads as opposed to salads you could get anywhere. Definitely get the tres leches dessert!"

  • "Had a lovely dinner here. Food was superb! The only problem we had was: while we had an early reservation on a warm evening, when they had the windows all open, and the restaurant was quite empty, they wanted to put us upstairs, saying all the tables by the windows were reserved. After some discussion, and mentioning we were active TripAdvior review posters, they finally relented, and seated us where we wanted. By the time we left, the restaurant was still fairly empty, and many window tables were still open. Yes, they may have been put aside for regulars coming after theater curtains were up, but saying early that we would be gone before 7:30, they were still rudely uncooperative."

  • "To be fair, it was a quick brunch so we did not really get an opportunity to fully experience Mixto. The food was very good, the service was ok - but not great. The cafe con leche was only so-so, but the espresso was quite good. A little up and down, but worthy of a second try."

  • "Mixto makes for a nice brunch alternative-plent of room and reservations available. Food was tasty and came out quick. A few quibbles with the service--mixup on changes we made to order but was fixed quickly with no charge. My black tea was undrinkable--water too cold to steep the Lipton tea they provide and the cafe con lechwe was unremarkable. Great ambience--except for the elevator music."

  • "I used to love this place, however after this weekends visit I'm not likely to go back. Food was mediocre at best, restaurant was cold and extremely loud. I think their other restaurant has better quality food though it is not in a prime location. Very disappointed."

  • "The food was delicious. The servers were helpful. They did bring us the wrong drink (Margarita even though a Passion Fruit Margarita was ordered, but we didn't say anything since the drink was good."

  • "Coming from a Caribbean island, I do not know why I have not found this place before. The restaurant is lovely and the food was absolutely scrumptious. Serving size was generous (took some home) and the staff was helpful and friendly."

  • "We were celebrating my birthday with my son and his girlfriend. First time here, won't be the last. Liked the room, the food, and the helpful server, Jesus. Lots of specialty drinks, wonderful ceviche appetizer."

  • "Food was amazing, great experience overall. Only complaint is that the tables are very close together, making you seem a little crowded and almost pulling you into other people's conversations."

  • "Mixto is obviously popular. It was jammed on Saturday night, but we did not have to wait long for our reserved table. The one drawback is the noise level. The interior is all wood and hard surfaces, and the ceilings are not very tall; there is nothing to absorb the noise. This definitely not the place to go for an intimate dinner for two. However, if you have group and don'r mind not being able to hear the person down the table from you, you will certainly appreciate the food. The menu is a blend of Cuban and Mexican dishes, nicely done if not very inventive. Prices are quite reasonable."

  • "The restaurant was great, the decore was very nice with an afro-centric feel. I liked that there were two levels and the tables were not crammed in like some other restaurants do to make use of the space. The food was great, if your into latin cuisine this is the spot. The waiter was very good, he left our table for a while witing for our food , but was really accomodating when I asked for plain oyster and could not deliver but offered a different seafood dish that was not really on the menu for that evening. The one issue there was there were no parking. The only garage was full and I hade to circle the block for 40 minutes before I located a parking spot two blocks away."

  • "Not a very good selection of entrees on valentines day menu. Was not aware of limited menu that day and forced to pay 60.00 per person for food that we did not fully enjoy. Lastly, in the price, was include wine; we don't drink alcohol. Next year we will venture elsewhere. Usually a good experience at mixto, but not on this special night."

  • "Cheerful, cozy and well-lit wood and brick interior; maybe a bit on the cramped side. We were catching up with friends so appreciated the gentle acoustics even on a fairly lively Saturday night. Had a drink first at the smallish bar on the mezzanine. Drinks were well mixed and beer selection ample though light on the Caribbean beers I'd expect there. My meal was uninspired but abundant: a salad with "house cured" tuna in oil and garbanzos, both of which ingredients were certainly from a can, and Bandeja Tipica, a platter of various meats which could have used more seasoning beyond the citrus/pepper sauce I had to request. The other plates at my table were loaded with rice, plantains and sides; I don't think anyone finished."

  • "We went for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated right away, but the space was so small we couldn't pull our chairs out enough to sit down. We were given a better table, but then we had three different servers. Our first drink order was forgotten, we never placed an order for dinner (and our server didn't realize it), and we felt that the service was very subpar overall. The food was OK, but we both had stomachaches that night and the next morning. The restaurant itself was beautiful and the drinks were tasty, but the experience is not one I'd bother repeating when there are so many great places in that neighborhood."

  • "The food was delicious, and the wait staff were very attentive. I wish I lived closer so I could go more often! (I live in Washington, DC, and just went to Philadelphia to see my son in a play.)"

  • "The service was a little slow, but the food was delicious! I was between a few choices (which rarely happens) and I'm confident that any choice would have been a good one. Great place to catch up with friends and enjoy really good food with various South American cultures. I had the Mexican breakfast and a passion fruit mimosa. Can't wait to go back."
