A word from Mitchum's Steakhouse
A gourmet oasis tucked within the historic Eastern Shore village of Trappe, Mitchum's is the showcase for our Executive Chef, Doug Stewart's innovative cuisine, from several richly flavorful cuts of meat to crisp pommes frites to sautéed sides, all created from organic produce harvested at nearby local farms. No less mouthwatering is the seafood, available according to the season.

A graceful study in warm mahogany, the restaurant evokes the masculine sophistication of its strapping Hollywood namesake, Robert Mitchum, who lived on a local farm for eleven years. Mitchum's is well worth a short trip off the beaten path.

Diner Reviews
  • "Our waiter informed us that it was the last night for Mitchums. They were out of a lot of menu items. The service was very slow. One in our party ordered a steak medium-well, but it was extremely rare when it was served. He was afraid to send it back because of how long it took to get it. It's a shame that it has closed. Hopefully, another restaurant will open in its place."

  • "There are only a few really great restaurants on the Delmarva peninsula, and this is one of them. The food, wine and ambiance was excellent. It's a little out of the way, but well worth the ride."

  • "This restaurant is worth the trip to the little town of Trappe. It was Restaurant Week and two of us had the three course fixed price meal and the other two ordered from the menu. The soup of the day was a cream of tomato basil and was the best tomato soup that I ever had. The salads were good - Caesar, the house, and the wedge. The only comment was that the wedge did not have enough dressing and some of the lettuce was eaten plain. The crab cake was excellent as was the Delmonico and the steak au poivre. Ample sides were provided with everything except the Delmonico. Desserts were excellent as well- a large, warm chocolate chip cookie with iced cream and tasty creme brûlée. We all hope to return soon!"

  • "My significant other and I had a relaxing evening. The atmosphere and food was delicious. Our waitress and servers were very attentive plus all food was kept at the optimum serving temperature (I have a thing about hot food that comes to my table cold!!). We will be back."

  • "In the past we have gone to Mitchum's for special occasions. But with their menu and atmosphere we will now go there for a casual on the spur of the moment dinner."

  • "Was a bit disappointed in the meal. The cost was high based on the meal that was served. The service was excellent!! Joe our server went above and beyond to make our experience a good one. The building was amazing!! Unfortunately we were seated next to a large group and the children were quite loud. Still it was a good experience. Probably won't be back again but it was worth a try."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner on Saturday night. From the start the service was perfect. Our waitress Katelin was charming but not gushy or phooey. The steaks were cooked to perfection. Whatever we requested, e.g. more hot rolls, was provided in a few minutes. We will plan another evening there - it is worth the drive."

  • "My boyfriend and I were visiting the town for my birthday and had a lovely dinner at Mitchum's. The staff was friendly, the food was marvelous, and the drinks superb. We had the filet and the Mitchum's 21 which is the special of the night for $21. This night it was shrimp stuffed with crab meat. They have a reasonably priced wine list and the desert was amazing - chocolate chip cookie (warmed in it's own little pan) and a scoop of ice cream from a shop that makes their own. I would absolutely recommend Mitchum's to anyone coming through town or needing a fancy, but affordable night out."

  • "Unfortunately my dining experience at Mitchum's has been inconsistent. The last time we ate here I ordered a rib eye and was very disappointed. Thin, over cooked and full of gristle. Not what I would expect for the price or a restaurant that bills itself as a steak house. This last Saturday my wife and I returned to give it another try. The waitress read us the specials and indicated that the rib eye was top notch. I told her about my last experience. She promised I would be very happy with the cut and the cooking. The first rib eye came out way over cooked. The second was full of gristle. Incidentally, my wife's filet was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. I guess, If you really want a good rib eye, go somewhere else."

  • "Another lovely meal at Mitchum's. It was the first visit for one in the group and they were thoroughly amazed and pleased. All of us dined on the petite filet with mashed potatoes and string beans. For dessert we had their creme brule and their famous chocolate chip cookie in a cast iron skillet. All of the food was wonderful. Our server remembered us from our previous visits and took wonderful care of us. While you would never just stumble across Mitchum's, it is well worth planning a trip. The never disappoint."

  • "Restaurant refused to accept open table reservation. Did not dine here. Staff very rude, offered no plausible alternative except to come back after 9 pm. Have hosted and attended several parties here- will not be utilizing location or recommending to others. I included review of food and ambience based on prior experience. What is the point of making a reservation, having a confirmation if only to have reservation refused. Plenty of other great restaurants in the area to choose from!"

  • "Mitchums is our go to favorite for the eastern shore. Head and shoulders above any other Steak House restaurant in the area. I hope I am not insulting anyone by calling it a steak house. It is much more than that."

  • "First time dining there. The noise level made it hard to have a conversation…they need somme drapes or material to absorb the sound..easy to resolve. The waitress seemed to struggle to understand she is there to service us and not just show up when it suits her. The drinks were good and the wine just fine. But I would only go there for their beef and leave it at that. ..my lamb was over cooked and covered in an oily marinated that was just salty…no favor. The place wasn’t packed, but was at another place earlier and it was, so that was a sign to us. Great theme, but the chef and the staff need to honor the hollywood standards of the golden years when Robert Mitchum, not make them look second rate."

  • "Our anniversary dinner at Mitchum's in Trappe, MD, was at a window table, away from the bar, the wine and the dinner (steaks) were perfect and the creme brûlée dessert was to die for."

  • "Mitchum's is terrific! Great food, friendly service, and a very nice environment. Though located in a small town, this is a first-rate restaurant that stacks up very well against higher priced competition in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, or New York."

  • "Though it was a mid-week night that was predictably slow, the staff was attentive and efficient. Even when the place emptied completely, we were able to stay and savor our desserts and coffee without feeling the least bit rushed. The meal of each member of our party was excellent. We visit Mitchum's fairly often, and plan to continue to do so in the future."

  • "Mitchum's is a truly great experience in a little out of the way spot where you would not expect to find a gourmet meal. The food, mostly steaks and seafood, were outstanding. The wine list was impressive and the service was warm, friendly, but never pushy. It was a perfect night."

  • "Last year, I surprised my boyfriend and took him to Mitchum's for his birthday. I had been once with a large group, he had never been. From beginning to end, it was an outstanding experience. In the time since, we have raved to friends about our outstanding appetizer (oysters stuffed with crab imperial), our outstanding meal (he had a pork chop topped with three of the largest shrimp either of us had ever seen and I had the Delmonico) and even the sides (we had the potato puree and the mushrooms). We went back again this year and had some of the same things (still awesome!) but this time tried the crab bisque (some of the best either of us had ever had) and seared scallops. Wow. Ask for Ashley to be your server. She was awesome!"

  • "A wonderful dining experience. Food was delicious. The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars for food was that the prime rib for one member of our party was too rare for their liking."

  • "Our family ate at Mitchum's to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Food and selection were excellent. Very friendly and attentive server. Seemed to be people of all ages there, young folks at the bar, families at tables. The old vintage movies playing onscreen over the bar were entertaining and fun to see Robert Mitchum, the restaurant's namesake in them! We all enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back!"

  • "The food was perfect. Steaks were great and my husband said he had the best burger of his life! The chicken melted in one's mouth. It was a bit noisy but the place was packed. Great service by Chrissie. Very accommodating when I had to change the reservation by 30 minutes."

  • "In a little town of Trappe is a place that took me to another world. I felt like I had left the Eastern Shore and was taken to a big city for fine gourmet dining. The ambiance was very classy and in great taste. The food was devine!! The mashed potatoes were fresh as was all the food. I can't wait to return!!"

  • "I was with four three friends and went for dinner after a day of fishing. three of us had hamburgers and one a steak. the steak was perfectly done and served medium rare (as ordered). Unfortunately our hamburgers were served well done although all had ordered medium rare. Had we all not been so tired we would have sent them back. we all did enjoy the crab soup."

  • "Overall, the food was good. I ordered the beef carpaccio to start. It was disappointingly not thin enough and would be the only negative to the meal. I had a pasta from the specials for the entree and it was excellent. My fellow diners ordered the steak and the crabcake, both of which they quite enjoyed. I was impressed that the chef called me to discuss a special dessert for a birthday celebration. Our service was excellent (Sherry), and she was full of great information about the building and the town of Trappe. We were allowed a peek upstairs at the banquet hall area that is available for rent for large parties and weddings. It is gorgeous and we are considering hosting future events there."

  • "This was our third visit to Mitchum's and it was excellent, as usual. I had the filet mignon, which was wonderful, my husband had the veal steak, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The portion was so generous that we ended up taking some of it home for lunch. We felt adventuresome trying the chocolate chip cookie it a skillet dessert, but it was wonderful. We shared one, but almost wished we had both ordered one, although this portion was also generous and we really both had our fill. Our waiter was personable, friendly and attentive. I am sorry that I don't remember his name."
