Diner Reviews
  • "The proprietor, Mitch was working front of house and was less than welcoming. It was a busy night and we had to wait about 10 mins for a table. This would have been fine, however we felt as if we were in the way and he and other staff said very little to us as we stood there feeling very awkward. Escort us to the bar, do something to make us feel like you are working to clean up a nice table for us......After being seated our service was fine, food was nice but nothing overwhelming. I have been to the bar for drinks and appetizers which has always been lovely, bartender great so I was very disappointed that I recommended this restaurant for dinner and it was quite overpriced for a somewhat underwhelming experience."

  • "Our evening began with excellent cocktails. Out of the four dinners served, two were the "best" ever. The Chilean seabass was absolutely outstanding -- the best ever. And the fried rice dish was also perfection. I will order that again when I return to Mitch's. Other than the surprising rain, the only hitch in the service was when someone came to the table, filled one water glass and left, ignoring the others. But our waiter, Francisco, was attentive and helpful in answering our questions about the menu. The price was at the high end of our dining out budget but well worth the cost."

  • "Meal was very nice but service slow and poor. Wine was not poured. We passed the bottle around the table. Water was not filled. Needed second bottle of wine but server did not come around for quite a while."

  • "Got there a bit early, sat us at the bar even though there were many open tables. Outside seating was very nice. Food was very tasty, bit pricy, but good. Our waitress got lost and never checked in to see how our food was. A nice place for a change of pace, very varied menu to enjoy."

  • "Won't lie...everyone we take to this place leaves with their bellies full, and wanting to go back again. Pacifica was great, but this is better. Hands down."

  • "Service between ordering and arriving was a long wait. Shashimi salad was a disappointment. I have had this at lunch here and loved it. This time salad was more cucumbers than salad greens, far less fish and way too much pepper flakes. Kitchen staff is very inconsistent on this item. Beer should be served in iced glasses, ours were just cool. Kirin beer was to come in large bottle, but only small we're available. Most fish options are done in an Asian style, top dollar. everything should be perfect. Even the upholstery on the chair was stained and shabby"

  • "Had lunch with my friend from Virginia - Thought he died and went to heaven. His Ahi salad was scrumptious as was my Salmon - mouth watering. Can't go wrong with Mitch's"

  • "The sushi we've had here has been excellent! Great flavor and very fresh! We've enjoyed our server Mickey very much, very personable and made our night very special. We've also received great service from Nick at both lunch and dinner. Our only criticism from last weekend is the terrible smell in the courtyard area. Not sure what's going on with that, but it made it difficult to enjoy dinner."

  • "We went with a group of six for a sushi night. It was great. We sat on the patio (which is nice) and the food was great. Not all of our friends like sushi so it was the perfect place. The menu has great choices for everyone."

  • "The food was ok but the ambiance was too sports bar. When our food arrived one of the orders was incorrect and the waitress argued with us which was quite inappropriate. Mitch's was highly recommended to us as similar to Eddie V's but did not think it was even close."

  • "....disappointing! Food, service and ambience all fantastic! Dined at lunchtime. Two of us had the seafood, crab salad with mango dressing..delishhh! One had the salmon salad...she also enjoyed it! An order of two rolls...one being tempura and the other was California....also enjoyed. Another had the Kobi hamburger and one had the seafood marina linguine. Everyone was pleased with their meals, service, etc. Will return one more time being leaving for home."

  • "Mitch's bills itself as a seafood plus prime beef restaurant. It is exactly that, plus excellent sushi, small plates, seafood, pasta, and meat entrees; plus a Wine Spectator award of excellence - so great wines by the glass served properly and at the right temperature. The sushi and other cold seafood appetizers were delicious, as were the small plates we enjoyed. We would definitely dine here again just for the food and wine, but the patio is a wonderful, climate-controlled place to sit and enjoy a meal."

  • "We had 6 for dinner reservations at 7:30 pm. The service was very slow. The restaurant was packed when we arrived.....perhaps our waitstaff was tired. We asked for bread and never received it. The server was not attentive. For the price, I would go elsewhere. The chilean sea bass while a nice texture was bland. Friends had the asian style miso choppino and liked it. We enjoyed the semi outdoor seating."

  • "Unfortunately our first visit to this restaurant started poorly. We had a dinner reservation for 4 at 6 pm and when we arrived we were shown to a table on the upper level that was directly under the misters. We requested another table on the upper level but they insisted on seating us in the lower level. No reservation signs were visible on available tables but they would not accommodate our request. This could have been a simple fix had a manager come over and offered an explanation. The word "no" is not acceptable in a service environment. This put a damper on our dinner and resulted in a disappointing experience."

  • "With most if its seatig outdoors - tabkes scattered amongst fire pits and heaters, surrounded by a large grass lawn, its easy to be happy with just that... Except Mitch's also delivers in the food. Choose between plate after plate of sushi rolls or sashimi, and if someone in the party isnt a sushi lover, the heart of the menu is filled with all continental plates that are delivered in near perfect form. Our party of 6 enjoyed the evening, found the service to be spot on despite the restaurant was packed and due to the food, outside environment, service & energetic vibe, Mitch's is on this local's top-five Desert restaurants to try while in town...."

  • "The food, as always was excellent. However the kitchen was very slow. We had great attention from our server but waited almost a half an hour between the appetizers and the entre. This was atypical for Mitch's. The Fuji Apple Torte helped to mitigate our crankiness!"

  • "We were greeted and seated at a central table on the outdoor patio which was beautifully adorned with over hanging decorative lights. The waiter was attentive. We decided on sushi despite what appeared to be a full menu of classically prepared dishes. The sushi was excellent. Look forward to visiting again. Beautiful venue."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience recently. Mitch is a gracious and charming host and should be very proud of his restaurant. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Thank you, Mitch!"

  • "Ambience and food are excellent. Only problem is that for a parties of two outside (preferred) you are seated at a small table near the doors. One person has a view and the other has to look at a wall. Seating for larger parties is fine but for two, no. This has been a problem here since the restaurant opened,"

  • "This was our first time there. The atmosphere was wonderful and in the outdoor-indoor seating was wonderful. The one sushi dish we ordered although quite large was just O.K.. My husband ordered the duck which was cooked really nicely didn't have any sauce which it needed. the calamari appetizer was crisp, not heavily breaded and greasy. Really liked it . Was too full to eat my blackened cod but tasted it and was very good. Good for big groups. Will try it again."

  • "The food is excellent and the service is awesome. I have eaten here a few times and each time I order a different dish to get a feel for the variety and talent of his chefs. Each dish has been a exquisite experience and I look forward to going back soon!"

  • "The proprietor treated us like second class citizens. Would not seat our party until all had arrived. Forced to endure extremely noisy bar while waiting. Were chastised for arriving a few minutes late for our reservation time. Food was average."

  • "Mitch was surly & un hospitable. The interior dining area & bar were very noisy. Outside tables were jammed together so it was difficult to hold a conversation."

  • "Found this reataurant on Open Table. Have been dining in Palm Desert for the last 5 years and often go back to the same reastaurants. This year I decided to venture out. Mitch's was a great experience. Outdoor dining venue was fabulous with a large patio, nice lighting and just a very romantice feel. However, many people there inaddition to couples. The service was 5 star from everyone on the entire waitstaff. The food was very good. Loved the seaweed salad. Am planning to go back for a happy hour at the bar and try the sushi menu which is fabulous. Definitely will be back to Mitch's. Loved it."

  • "We were late arriving for our reservation but were seated promptly. We have been loyal to Mitch as he was a very friendly maitre d' at Pacifica before he opened his own namesake restaurant. Mitch's is great California dining; good food prepared simply and presented well. Sushi looks amazing though we get stuck on the Dover sole which is outstanding. He must be doing a lot of things right as his place is packed all the time. We are never disappointed. :-))"

  • "I came here for lunch with my girlfriends and we were promptly greeted and seated. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. We started with the jalapeno poppers, truffle fries and Mini Ahi Poke Tacos. They were soo good! I had the El Paseo Sushi Sampler Barrel it was so delicious. Everything that we ordered was excellent. We decided to have drinks at the bar while we waited for our taxi and their happy hour was amazing. $6.00s for any type of vodka drink. We had pomegranate martinis with grey goose. Soo good! We will be back for sure!"
