Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I started with a cup of seafood gumbo. It has just the right spice, very "meaty" and a nice flavor. My wife had the Shanghai Sampler as her main course, a favorite of hers. The dish consists of steamed salmon, scallops and shrimp. Very clean tasting. I had blackened Cobia. It was a large piece of fish and was prepared excellently. The rice and beans were very good along with green beans. We finished with sharing crème brulee. The seemed the whip cream was made in house. A very enjoyable meal."

  • "I recently made reservations for Easter Brunch at your Galleria location. I specifically asked for brunch and the hostess I talked to I the phone said "no problem". I even got an email confirmation. Needless to say, after attending Easter mass our family was looking forward to a delightful brunch at your restaurant. MUCH to our dismay, we were told that location does not serve brunch! We were extremely disappointed! Please clarify that issue on your website and also with your personnel! "

  • "My wife absolutely loves the Shanghai-style Chilean Sea Bass, so when it came to her birthday dinner, Mitchell's was her first choice. The restaurant didn't disappoint. I'm not a big fish person, but the beer-battered cod made me want to keep eating. Or perhaps it was the tangy coleslaw. Or the deep-fried hush puppies. I did swap out the fries for the mashed potatoes, which basically were boiled potatoes, mashed a bit. Nothing that a lot of butter, a little milk and horseradish couldn't have fixed. The only other criticism would be the house white wine, which my wife opted to leave on the table. But the free birthday treat, a shark fin ice cream cake, complete with lit candle, more than made up for it. "

  • "Mitchell's has become a tradition for us after Good Friday services. The food is always perfect, the wait staff is very accommodating and no special request is too much to ask for. Plus the carrot cake is to die for -- even two days later because it is way too big to eat in one or two seatings! Love it for lunch too, especially the tuna melt and clam chowder. Yum!,"

  • "All seafood entrees were extremely fresh and perfectly cooked and prepared. Crab cakes were good and fresh, but not the best we've ever had (smaller lumps of crab meat combined with a little too much filler). Sides, especially the smashed potatoes, were very tasty. Service was efficient and professional. Due to a couple of large groups dining in the same room, the ambience left a little to be desired. A little less space than comfortable; a little more noise than desired. Overall, a very good dining experience."

  • "Went out for another great dinner and loved it as usual. Thanks to Josh the Manger for coming by to our table to say "hello" and our server who was fantastic! Really good food this evening and just a great experience! Thanks!!!"

  • "We have been to Mitchell's a number of times since it first opened; we have never had a bad experience. Food is always outstanding, and so is the service."

  • "We usually love Mitchell's (my wife's go to dish is the Shanghai Salmon w/ a creme brûlée for dessert) and when we decided to celebrate her birthday, there was only one place she wanted to go. As per the usual, the food was fresh and well made but the service was very poor. After the initial bread & drinks were served, we did not see our waiter for another 45 mins (and when I say "see" -- I mean we could see him but he was too busy yucking it up at another table to remember we existed). After finishing our meal and holding out hope that our waiter would come back to refill drinks and offer dessert - 15-20 minutes passed and by then we decided to just pay and head over to the Market District for some dessert. Very Disappointing."

  • "There were eight in our group. Every single one of us enjoyed our meal immensely. Our server wasn't able to open the first two bottles of wine and another server had to open up the third one. It was her trainer. The wrong dinners were given to us. We had to switch them around amongst us. Otherwise everything was perfect!"

  • "The waiter was very well informed and knowledgeable of the food. My Caesars salad was tasty and my wife's Spinach salad was very nice done also. The Cedar Plank Salmon was done perfectly, and the asparagus spears were crisp and not over done. The Stuffed Cod with lobster and shrimp was very good along with the mashed garlic red skin potatoes. My asparagus was also perfect. The Mini Shark Fin was just the right size for my wife and was a great combination of all of the flavor and textures.. My Key Lime pie was another good choice and was nice a firm and tart."

  • "The restaurant was over crowded and loud. Two of the meals came out raw. The manager did take them off the bill."

  • "Wine list was great with good selections! Food was excellent, but just a little weak on portion size for the type of offering (Filet & Lobster tail); Spoiled by size of offerings in Florida for the price, I guess. Popular place, even on a Monday, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating!"

  • "Mitchell's is one of my family's favorite restaurants. We dine there several times a year for birthday celebrations or anniversaries. The food is a very good quality and service is outstanding."

  • "Food is a little bit better than a typical Applebees or Red Lobster chain. Our "crab" dip was still frozen in the middle... which makes me wonder if they just microwave all the food they serve. We went to Mitchell's for my mom's bithday and lucked out when the restaurant sat us in a small private banquet room because we had made reservations. It was nice to be separate from the main restaurant for a special occasion. The wait staff was very friendly and accomodating. Our waitress had prfect timing when she brought out my mother's birthday cake with the candles lit."

  • "Was there for happy hour. I recommend the artichoke dip- excellent. The fist tacos were good too. Got the blackened ones but the tortillas were cold. Also got the oysters - EXCELLENT!!!! They weren't on the happy hour menu but they were worth it."

  • "My husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day here. The service and food was great! The only complaint was that we had a table out front in the mall which was extremely cold when the door kept opening. If they had heaters out there in the winter I think it would have been better. The food and service out weighted the fact that we had to wear our coats the whole dinner. Still would highly recommend eating here, just request to have a time inside the restaurant."

  • "My husband and I came to Mitchell's on a Friday evening no knowing what to expect since neither of us had even been there. We were extremely pleased with everything, food was great, everything came out quickly and our server was the best."

  • "We had a party of 3 who all ordered the Delmonico steak and lobster tail. We also had the spinach and crab dip. Unanimously, we loved both the appetizer and the dinner. We have eaten at Mitchell's many times but never tried the steak. It was terrific."

  • "My wife and I had made reservations for dinner for Valentine's Day and our Anniversary. The reservations were confirmed 2/13. Upon arriving, a little early we were informed it would be 15 minutes (about until our reservation time). We shopped and returned and were informed that if we wanted a seat in the restaurant, rather than in the 'outside dining' in the mall hallway by a car display, it would be another 45 minutes. I inquired as to the point of my reservation, and was merely informed that it 'was busy' and no effort at apology or assistance was made. Special day ruined."

  • "Many places were already booked for the Valentine's Day weekend, but Mitchell's Fish Market (a week before) still had some "good" times for reservation. Christian, our waittor was attentive, polite, and knowledgeable. The service was good, and the food was excellent. The seafood trio (king crab and dungeness crab witrh lobster tail) was exceptionally good! The carrot cake dessert was huge! The dessert serving was the size of about 1/5 of a large cake. It served 4 people well with some left over."

  • "My husband and I are regulars at Mitchell's and have never had a bad experience. We love their wide selection of fish and preparations. We celebrated Valentine's Day there this year and had a wonderful evening. The restaurant was packed, but we had made reservations and were seated promptly. When the waitress brought our check, she presented us with a $15 coupon for our next visit. Now that's marketing! Thanks, Mitchell's. We loved spending Valentine's Day with you."

  • "Made a reservation for 8:00-6 on Valentines night and was seated upon arrival with no wait. Waitress was extremely attentive and very pleasant to deal with. Food was great but maybe just a tad over priced for the amount you recieve. But, would defenitely eat here again. .. All in all it was a pleasant experience."

  • "We have eaten here many times before for special occasions and have never had a problem. My fiance and I were incredibly disappointed to find that we had to sit outside the restaurant in the galleria seating area. We booked the reservations weeks in advance and it didn't seem to matter. It would have been nice to enjoy a romantic Valentine's day dinner without seeing teenagers or kids run around and eat on a somewhat picnic table. My meal was delicious, however, my fiance ordered crab cakes and they were filled with shells. We will likely return because we have had many good meals here, just disappointing to have a bad experience on a special day."

  • "Dinner was good as usual. I would like to see notes for all the fish offerings similar to what they do with Chilean sea bass as to the way it was caught and the sustainability, by catch etc of the particular fish. Also, would like to see a fish on the menu for the family of sardines, mackerel, herring, fresh anchovies etc for those of us who like to eat lower on the food chain."

  • "Mitchell's is a very good seafood reataurant and it is great to have it in "our" South Hills area of Pittsburgh. Another very good seafood restauant (Bonefish Grill) just opened around 1 year ago and is conveniently located "down the road" at South Hills Village, but Mitchell's is a great alternative and continues to provide a nice selection of fresh seafood that is prepared to order. The wait staff service was good but not great. Unfortunately this seems to be a trend that most fine dining restaurants are faced with these days. The old fashioned attentive standard of care, which we (seniors) seem to have expected and enjoyed from the waiters at the better restaurants, seems to be a thing of the past."

  • "The food was delicious and the server Mark was very attentive. The problem was that someone told one of the guests my Husband and I had was told we had to move or leave our table because there were other people to be seated. First of all someone should of come to the people who had the reservations (my Husband and myself), second of all if staying at a table we had reservations for a celebration then you should of told us we had the table for 2 hours. We were there for 2 1/2 hours and that was appetizers, ordering, celebrating, and visiting. I did call and speak with the manager when I got home and let them know I was unhappy."

  • "I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to fish: it needs to be fresh, perfectly prepared, and seasoned so that the flavor of the fish still comes through. These details seem obvious, but many restaurants fail at this, so I'm often afraid to order fish when we are out. So I was hopeful that Mitchell's would be different since fish dishes are obviously their claim to fame. I was not disappointed! I got the pecan-crusted rainbow trout, and it was excellent. Perfectly prepared and completely delicious. Rather than the sides it is usually served with, I got the spinach apple salad. That was excellent, too. I'm already looking forward to the next time my husband and I can make it back to Mitchell's for a date night dinner. Highly recommend!"

  • "With Bonefish Grill and Rumfish Grill as competitors Mitchell's has a way to go. Paying $6.29 for an ala carte salad is ridiculous considering the price of the entrees. Either local restaurants are a better deal for superior seafood and just as good an atmosphere and certainly better service."
