Diner Reviews
  • "I had not been in a while and was very pleased. Like the updated decor--almost a Carolina feel to the place. Everything was great, from the shrimp and crab dip appetizers to the cobia and other entrees. "

  • "I'm from Chicago and made reservations at Mitchell's for my mom's birthday. We really wanted a nice dinner since last year's birthday dinner was disastrous at a VERY expensive steakhouse near Mitchell's. From the moment we walked in, it was clear we made the right decision. The charming hostess and the bartender who hand stuffed bleu cheese olives for my martini while we waited for our table were ca great way to start the evening. But the best part, along with the food, was our server, Shianne. This server could seriously come to Chicago and hold a master class on how customers should be treated. Charming, intuitive, witty, attentive, and willing to go the extra mile! I hope I can request her next time we're at Mitchell's!"

  • "Some of the best sea bass and calamari I have ever had."

  • "We usually dine at one of the two Mitchell's in our locality at least once a month. Typically, everything is dead on perfect, however, everything seemed a bit off on this visit. We had to ask for silverware, bread, and the extra side that we requested. My usual drink was off balance. Our soup came out before our appetizer and there was a long gap between our appetizer and meals. The food was ok, although I believe that it sat under the heat lamp due to the fact that my seafood was crusty on the outside (not seared) and my recook did not taste fantastic as it usually does. Everyone has off days and I am assuming that it was the change of the weather that increased seat count affected the overall experience."

  • "Great Restaurant, Great Food, in fact Great Everything!"

  • "The food at Mitchell's is always deliciously prepared and fresh. I enjoy the ambience at Newport On The Levee as well. There are plenty of choices on the menu. It is a bit pricey, but we only go there for special occasions."

  • "When you go here, you MUST have the Lobster Bisque! It is the best food I have ever put in my mouth"

  • "My wife and I had our first date at Mitchell's and recently went back to celebrate the date. As always the food was great and we received exceptional service. The restaurant is in a great spot and we had a view of Cincinnati through the window from our table. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu."

  • "We had a mixed group of kids and adults 11 in all. Very friendly attentive staff. Everyone found something to eat. We had a private room along the river in back. Then we walked the pedestrian bridge to the arena. Worked out great!"

  • "Returned to Mitchell Fish Market to once again a great meal and great service. Prices are reasonable for the level of service and atmosphere. Would visit again soon."

  • "The ambiance and drinks were great, but the food not at all. Entrees are $20-30. We had shrimp cocktail-okay, New England Lobster bisque. We lived in New England. New England lobster bisque is a lobster broth and cream soup with tender lobster and little sherry floated on top. Mitchell's tasted like Campbell's tomato bisque with some tough lobster tossed in, yuk The Blacked Chilean Sea bass was surprisingly bland, and the Asian inspired mahi mahi - not inspired. It had way too much sugar and salt, just too much sauce, it over powered everything. The shark fin pie was good, but I would have preferred 1/2 the size and price. I hope it was an off night, but I am not taking that risk. I think we'll stick the coasts for seafood."

  • "Great place for dinner to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday. Atmosphere was warm and lively, allowing for good conversation within our party of 6. Food was well-prepared and delicious. Service was prompt and attentive. We would definitely visit this restaurant again!"

  • "Definitely enjoyed eating here for the first time. The food was amazing. My only possible complaint was that the scallops (steamed) were a little chewy-- but it's really hard to get scallops perfeclty prepared. I had the Mahi Mahi and the Atlantic Cod, both of which were cooked to perfection. Sides included asparagus and mashed potatoes, again cooked to perfection. I definitely recommend getting the mashed potatoes. My date had the seafood gumbo and salmon/shrimp dish, which had an amazing aioli sauce. The waiter was attentive to our needs, checked back with regularity, and helped us get on our way when we had to leave suddenly. The only thing I would do differently is order a glass of wine instead of a mixed drink."

  • "As I waited at my table, I overheard a server speaking to a table next to me. I heard them ask about the lobster specials, and the server replied, "honestly I've been off for like a week so I have no idea. I was shocked. After we ordered, my salad and my mom's soup came out fairly quick but the server didn't bring any bread. We ordered tha Shang Hai seafood sampler to split and I couldn't believe how disappointing it was. The scallops were overlooked and rubbery as well as the shrimp. The salmon didn't taste that bad, but it just look dis colored and unappealing. The rice was fine and the sauce was decent besides tasting too salty. I'm not one to make a scene in a restaurant so I didn't say anything to the server like I should have."

  • "Went to Mitchell's for wedding anniversary. Had reservations but still had a wait. Bartender was sure we had a drink and hostess apologized. Food was great (steak, great potato, and crab cakes). Scott was a great server. Wish we had a seat by the river view. Table was good and not crowded together. Valet definitely recommended and worth $10. Overall experience was 4+/5. 5/5 would have included no wait and river view."

  • "Waitress seemed to be walking through the motions - no character whatsoever Obnoxiously bright wall sconces made looking at my date difficult Bread had a lemony taste - normal? Salmon was dry (veggies delish) Filet tender but tasted like dish soap Will we go back for overpriced meal? NO!!!"

  • "The food at Mitchell's is average. There are definitely places around where you can find better food (Bone Fish Grill, Jeff Ruby's, McCormick & Schmicks) for a similar price, but Mitchell's definitely has the best view especially when you can sit outside in the summer."

  • "We done quite frequently at Mitchell's and since this was the 1st Friday of Lent, you were the top choice for our Friday date night. We were seated right at our reservation time but once at the table, we waited and waited and waited. A temporary server finally greeted us and asked if we would like an appetizer and told is that our server would be right with us. We asked for a couple more minutes but again waited a very long time! After about 15 minutes, we finally stopped her and told her we were ready to order both the appetizer and main course. The server returned with our crab cake appetizer and then told us she would be our server for the remainder of the meal. The food was excellent but the service was below our expectations."

  • "This was the second time I had been to Mitchells. It was a date night for me and my daughter. We go out like this once a year and I always try to make it special. She is a little picky on food but has always liked shrimp. She ordered the Thai shrimp and absolutely enjoyed it. I grew up in Florida and have always liked seafood. The plate I had was very good, excellent flavor with good portions. Overall the meal was great/"

  • "This review is more for your service, not Mitchelk's Fish Market. When we got there at 7:00pm they did not have a reservation for us. I don't know what happened, but your service failed to set up a reservation in my name. Fortunately, they were unusually slow and got us in immediately. I'm not sure if I would take the time to use your services again in the future.."

  • "My boss and two colleagues were in town (from Pittsburgh and Buffalo) for a week of business meetings. I recommended we go to Mitchell's for dinner on Tuesday night and they loved it. "Great choice." they all said. Reservations at 6:30 and it wasn't busy or noisy at all. We were able to get a booth by the window, overlooking the Cincinnati skyline. A nice experience for first-time visitors, and this frequent visitor as well."

  • "To celebrate the milestone of one of our colleagues I chose Mitchell's Fish house. Our celebration was on a weeknight and we were able to reserve the private room over looking the river and city. When booking the Captain's Quarters Steve was very amiable and helpful. He arranged to have the milestone printed on the menu for us. This was a personal touch that did not go unnoticed by those of us in attendance. Our server Justin was professional and well informed to answer any menu questions. We chose to order a la carte from the general menu. We did have the cold and warm appetizer platters. These were a good choice for our party. The variety of entre menu items chosen was wide and varied. Each person was pleased with their choice."

  • "the food was excellent, the waiter (Chris) was very goog and new what he was doing. He explained everything to us due to being our first time there. My daughter was the one who told us to there for dinner, and we will be back, thank you, Dennis"

  • "It's a convenient location, and has a nice view. But the food is nothing special and pricey, and the environment is chaotic."

  • "I've been going to Mitchell's ever since it opened at Newport , KY, but the last couple of visits have just fallen short of the 5 star rating . On this last visit, I had to send my entree back to be warmed up. My wife's entree was served nice and hot, but mine was not. The server apologized and had it warmed up. However, I had to wait until my plate was brought back to the table...not a huge issue, but again, fell short of the flawless service that I've enjoyed in the past. I figured someone would have checked it before serving."

  • "Made a reservation for Saturday night of Valentines Day. Reservation was easy and available. Sat down quickly without wait. Food specials were beyond fantastic. Two skewers of beef tenderloin tips with two skewers of shrimp plus a house salad for $20 or substitute lobster tail for the shrimp for a total of $27. Great find and great value for food provided. Signature drinks are also fantastic. Normal bar prices for bar drinks. Kids menu is great as well, lots of choices."

  • "Sat 30 minutes late for our 7:30 reservation. No accommodation was made, i.e. drinks or appetizers. Hostess did not seem concerned about the inconvenience. After finally being seated, both the service and food were great."

  • "We were seated at a table for 2 that really was big enough for 1 person. We did not have enough room for all of our food. We ordered lobsters, the table was so over crowded the heated butter was placed at the edge of the table. I almost burnt myself and almost knocked out over. I had to ask the waiter to remove it from the table. The lobsters were very fatty. My plate was so full of "lobster juice" it began to splatter on my clothes. We had to ask the waiter to replate my food."

  • "The food was very good the plate was huge but the quantity of food was lacking. For a seafood sampler meal 3 shrimp,3 scallops and a mouthful of fish is not much of a meal for the price. The bread was very bland and instead of butter it came with oleo(margarine). I felt that since we were not drinking this particular night, the service was lacking."

  • "I went this past weekend for an extended Valentine's Day celebration with my boyfriend. I had the Live Maine Lobster and he had chicken. But our wait to get a table was only 15 minutes, the server was really nice, the prices weren't bad at all and the food honestly tasted AMAZING. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. Especially if you love seafood like I do."
