We are so glad we did! We ordered the lobster blt for lunch and the taste brought us back to New England. We ended up ordering the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer to take back to our children and they enjoyed them as well. The waiter brought out a slice of shark fin pie for dessert, for our anniversary. We requested to be seated outside when we made our reservation on Open Table and were seated within a few minutes of our arrival. Our service was great and I always love the food here. I have been to Mitchells in the Chicago suburbs before they closed it, and always missed going here. Was excited when I arrived to Jacksonville that they had a Mithcells. We were excited to return for our daughter's 21st b'day.
Service as always was incredible. Problem was the food. It wasn't bad it just wasn't great. Even the chips served with one of the appetizers were so incredibly salty. When we commented our waiter shared that recently it had been a problem, our groups which contained teens/young adults didn't finish the chips which really says something. My daughter's salad was drenched in dressing ~ ew.
Other than those big problems most of the food just seemed to not hit the notes they had in the past. While I enjoyed my Shang-hai steamed plate i felt the flavors were a bit flat. Lunch as a special occassion and the hostess was very accomodating... I brought gift to her ealier in the day and requested a booth and mentioned it was a surprise. We have visited them in various locations - and despite the sale to a national company - the restaurant has held true to its origins. The fish was fresh, served hot, and absolutely delicious. My wife had her fish Shanghai style - her favorite preparation-and it still delights. I had the Hoison style-I think that is new (or at least new to me) and it was excellent as well. And thank you for being part of Open Table-when we look for restaurants in cities away from home (we live in SW Florida), and see the Fish Market come up, it is a no brainer. Meal options included a choice of fish with numerous finishes as well as several "combo" menu items that give you the opportunity to try two or three fish selections in the same meal. The desserts are insanely large, especially the carrot cake with a 2.6 POUND slice.
