  • "This was a wonderful surprise. I came here randomly since I thought it would be a nice place for my fiance's birthday. It was happy hour which was nice since it wasnt packed nor noisy (5-7 pm). The price was great for the drinks and appetizers both of which were fresh and delicious! Then the dinners were just enough to fill me up. Wonderful meal. All the sudden we order the sharkfin (npt sure if that is the correct name but close) and our waiter asked if we had seen it before. "No..why?" and he just walked away laughing. This thing was as big as my face, at least length wise. The carrot cake was even bigger he said but didnt get that this time. All and all, everything was fantastic and she is still very happy with it. Ask for Alex :)"

  • "My wife had some good fish. I had some not so great shrimp. Along with a pretty cheap tasting batter they were also out of the side I had asked for. Furthermore, we had to ask for bread as everyone else had been served around us. Probably won't be back anytime soon. It was our anniversary so I wasn't going to complain."

We also were disappointed that they only have one round table, so our party of 6 was seated in a long rectangular table. At first we were offered one of their horseshoe shaped booths but that is so difficult for 6 people to get in and out."

  • "Our service was slow, our lobster bisque like warm at best. My sea bass was undercooked- cool and jelly like in the center. My husband's filet was sub-par at best with gelatinous Hollandaise on top. The only part of the meal we actually enjoyed was the lump crab appetizer. We feel like our waiter forgot about us. An expensive lesson learned at a former favorite spot."

Maybe it was just a bad day but it was my first time here so I can't be certain. There are certainly other restaurants in Birmingham, so choose wisely."

  • "One of our favorite restaurants had an off night. I had the "Mitchells Trio" this visit. The only tasty part of the meal was the teriyaki based glaze that the scallops were served with and the mango salsa presented with the tilapia. The carribean "jerk" tilapia was bland, the black beans and rice were honestly awful. The salmon was average at best. Again, one of our favorite stops but these dishes with an "ethnic" theme require more attention or should be replaced."

We have tried their lobster stuffed cod and plank salmon in the past, which were also just fair. For the price, we will try to find another restaurant for a better fish dinner. Chris, our waiter was very good, but just won't go back."

  • "We visit this restaurant every other month or so--always on a Saturday night. Our table was ready on time, the service was great, the food selection appealing to all four of us. The restaurant was busy, but the noise level fine so we could hear each other. I tried the Chilean sea bass, a house specialty, and it was delicious and the portion generous."

  • "With a party of 6 stuck in a semi circular booth that did not allow me to move my legs at all, I was was very uncomfortable. I am short. If I had been tall, it would have been agony. Within 30 minutes, my left leg was numb & it was hard to enjoy the food. If you are a party of more than 4, always ask for a round table."

As some have mentioned, it took a little longer than expected for our main course to arrive but that happens occasionally in other restaurants. We enjoyed our meals but we thought that the portions were a little small. The waitress explained that their normal fish portions are 7 ounces. All together, it was an enjoyable experience."

  • "I was really disappointed, this is the second time I have been to Mitchell's (previous time was a different location). This time was for an anniversary dinner. My steak was extremely overcooked. I also felt as though our waiter tried, but the location seemed to be understaffed, so he would stop by when he could, but seemed to be constantly running. Won't be going back."

  • "Service was atypically slow - 20 minutes after being seated we still had only water and JUST gotten our bread. My wine was delayed another 10+ minutes. A manager came by, apologized, explained they'd run out glasses and opened a new box - and my wine would be on the house. Also, the back of my booth (very near a window - post 2B, I think) was not very stiff. I kept getting bumped in the back by the couple in the booth behind us - as they shared pretty animated conversation with the people across from them. I thought it might have just been that couple, but they left before us and I had a similar experience with the next people seated in the booth. I've never noticed this before in any other booth - at Mitchell's or anywhere else."

Arrived 15 min. pearly, had requested a booth , hostess seemed puzzled. There were 16 empty. We followed her as she asked a server if we could have a booth? Awkward , but our server & food were great!"

  • "I recently celebrated my 25th birthday with my boyfriend at Mitchell's. Our server was great very attentive and helped us pick great drinks. We ordered the fried calamari, I had a Caeser salad and a shrimp and marinated steak skewer dinner special, he had the whole Maine lobster. He really enjoyed his dinner I however was disappointed by the low quality shrimp, overly marinated steak (which tasted sweet) and horrible salad dressing on my Caeser salad. The dressing had way too much mayo, lacked acidity and seasoning. The steak was cooked to the correct temperature even though the marinade ruined the flavor. The best part of my meal was the mashed potatoes."

  • "We frequent Mitchell's fish market often. We prefer the Birmingham location, due to quality food and service. We were surprised to find very slow service during dinner. We order drinks, soup and side salads to start. We then ordered our entrees. We had to wait quite a while to receive our drinks and the usual bread that is served with dinner. We waited so long that we only had one drink each, compared to usually ordering a second drink when dinner arrived. We continued to wait for our bread, soup, and salad. The bread, soup and salad finally arrived. Another half hour later, we received our entrees. The server apologized for the wait and offered a free dessert. We will go back again, but hope to have quicker service."

I had shrimp scampi and she had surf and turf which was frozen days prior and not fresh at all. The beef skewers were chewy. Very disappointing.   • "Our group of 8 enjoyed our meal at Mitchell's tonight. We made a reservation thru Open-Table and our table was ready for us when we arrived. We had a variety of entrees and almost everyone was thrilled with their food. Only problem we had was the meat kebobs served with the shrimp on the skewers came too well done, but they were replaced correctly. Lots of interesting choices, new preparations and fresh catch, made it a memorable meal. And the coffee was excellent!"
