Mistral’s California cuisine is very Mediterranean-influenced, and focuses on serving the best local ingredients available. Chef Tim Fabatz serves up an immensely popular daily fresh fish special and has excellent seafood and shellfish offerings on the seasonally current regular menu. Mistral is committed to being responsible to the environment and to the people around us; therefore our seafood is from sustainable sources, our beef is hormone-free Certified Angus, naturally-raised pork, lamb and chicken are of the best quality available, organic produce is used wherever possible, and no trans fats are used in any recipe preparations. Mistral is a destination restaurant for anniversaries & birthdays, and has an off-the-beaten-path ambiance with year-‘round patio dining and water views, an outdoor fireplace, and plenty of outside heaters.   • "We've been going to this restaurant since the early days of Redwood Shores (~86). It has changed names, changed hands (we presume) and changed menus. We like the setting because of the outdoor fireplace. Recently we reserved a table requesting in advance we be seated by the fireplace and when we arrived our table was waiting! Very Cool! The service however was not so good. The waitress was slow to come to the table, promised to bring us items our party requested, then would not return for 15-20 minutes. Not sure if they were understaffed or if she was just inept. The food was mediocre and needs to improve before we will be returning."

  • "Have been to Mistral Restaurant many times over the years and have always had great food and great service. The waiter was very friendly and attentive and we were not rushed. I had the Ahi salad and my friend had the Risotto and both were good-sized portions and very tasty! The restaurant overlooks one of the lagoons so you have a beautiful view if you sit outside."

  • "My husband and I took our son and his girlfriend their on Sat night to celebrate our son's 25th birthday. The first table they seated us at was in the enclosed patio and right next to a huge group of extremely loud people. We had to ask to be moved, but the new table had the heater off and we had to ask to have it turned on. They were out of the special (at around 7:30), so my son had to order something much more expensive with no adjustment. When eating our salads we noticed we had no bread and ask for some, which arrived the same time as our main course. It was very difficult to get attention from the staff to get water, etc. The food and drinks were very good, but crazy expensive for such poor service and attention."

  • "I found this restaurant through open table recommendations. It has a good atmosphere and good heating for a chilly evening dining outside. communal seating with large fireplace and heating in ceiling aswell as heat lamps They accommodated my request to use a private room for a short while prior to my reservation time to hold a quick business review with my group (6 people), although it was Tuesday, so there was no problem with space. Very accommodating staff. Menu was pretty good, but I felt that the Rissotto and Halibut I had was a bit bland. Appetizers and Desserts were very good and the seafood chowder was great also. Bar was well stocked and a good variety of Micro Brews etc."

  • "The restaurant does not look as glamorous as its pictures on its website. The food was over spiced and tasted more like a 15 dollar plate rather than a $30 plate. I ordered the red wine braised lamb shank and it was acidic and tasted stale, the corn mean that came with it also tasted stale. My BF had a organic pan roasted salmon, it was too salty. The tables are too close to each other. I requested for a quite area but I could hear every single word on the next table. Thank God they left early and I was able to enjoy some quality time with BF."

  • "The food was excellent. Our group had pan seared halibut, rib eye steak, salmon and paella for entrees, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The service started off strong and then floundered in the middle, with us waiting over 20 minutes after getting our appetizer to place our entree order - maybe our waiter was on a break? Once we die place our entree order, the food was served in a timely manner. We definitely plan to go back. Dining outside in the enclosed patio area looked especially enticing."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants and love sitting in the patio. Last Friday I took a friend for lunch and the noise level was so loud, that we had to shout to hear each other. It was her first time there, as I recommended going there being that she had not been before. I was disappointed because of the noise, although she didn't complain, but don't know if she enjoyed it that much because of the noise. Food was very good and everything else was good."

  • "We were in town for a conference for 4-nights and wanted one night away from the hotel. We didn't have much time to go very far. Luckily, Mistral was a mile away and true to others that had reviewed the restaurant, it was perfect. It's always hard to please a large group but all, except for one who complained he was too hot under the heat lamp, everyone else enjoyed the evening very much. Three of us ordered the paella and loved it! The steaks went down well, too, as did the salmon. We got there just as the sun was going down and got to view the lagoon. The music was played as a nice level and it was appreciated by all of us. Thank you for a lovely evening."

  • "I have been to Mistral many times and really appreciate the food and the service at dinner time, not so much at lunch. The bus boy was actually much better than our server. Well, my guest have never been there and I told her that everything in the menu was going to be great. After a few minutes, we both decided on the Chicken Pot Pie; which was far from the real deal. Instead, we received a clay type bowl with a flaky dough flowing in a what we both would describe later; an Indian curry soupy cream. The taste wasn't bad, but was not what we were expecting at all."

  • "Service was interminably slow on Valentine's day. - Even for a busy Friday Holiday, we waited to be acknowledged and then waited a minimum of 20 minutes between courses. As a result, our meal stretched to almost 2.5 hours - without dessert. We will try again on a non-holiday night to see if it gets better. The food was good (we did not order off the prix fixe menu which was optional), but waiting so long between courses made it less pleasurable."

Plates that were mostly (though not completely) empty were whisked away without the usual "are you finished with that" politeness (I DID want that last little bite). And it took a bit too long for bread to show up at our table. And while my wife noticed that the menu stated (due to the drought) that water must be requested, it would have been nice to have our server mention that. But the food was outstanding, both mine and my fellow diners."

  • "Our reservations were for 6 p.m. on a rainy Sat nite. The restaurant was not crowded and our requested seating outside by the fire was available. The heaters made the room quite warm, but not intolerably so where we were seated. Our server was friendly, courteous and checked on us regularly, but was not pesky. The beet and orange salad was outstanding, as was the corbina with risotto. I would love to have both recipes. The caramelized banana split was delicious and lighter than expected, but too much for one person after a full meal + wine. A very pleasant meal and looking forward to returning when we want a nice dinner out."

  • "We've eaten at Mistral many times over the years, and we never leave disappointed. Our most recent visit was a special occasion, as we had family visiting from out of town. This was the first time I have eaten outside, and even though it was a rainy evening, the outdoor area is pretty much weather proof. The fireplace and heaters were cranked on, and it was toasty outside; actually it was a bit too warm. The service was the best I've ever had at Mistral. It's always good but our server really knocked it out of the park. The food was spectacular and everyone in our party had a truly wonderful time. It's so nice to have a gem like this in Redwood Shores; one of the best restaurants on the Peninsula."
