The design of Mistral is both elegant and casual, resonating with the ambiance of Provence as arched floor to ceiling windows drench the room with light.

Mistral’s private dining room, Le Salon du Mistral, accommodates 60 seated and up to 80 guests for a reception.

We decided to try this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. We instantly noticed the high noise level. After being seated at a two top so close to other guests, we asked to be reseated. We were moved to a four top so that we could sit closer to each other in order to hear each other talk. While the food and service were great, I will not return to this restaurant unless assured that acoustics are such that the noise level does not leave me with a headache. Rather disappointing for a brief trip to Boston!

Food is creative, plentiful, superb. Setting is sophisticated and grand. My only semi complaint is that wine list does not offer choices beneath the $55-65 range. And most bottles were much beyond that. Otherwise, no disappointments.

  • Good place for celebrating!

We had a wonderful time celebrating husband's birthday. We sat next to a couple who were also celebrating a birthday and fell into interesting conversation with them, exchanging contact info. when departing. The food was melt-in-the-mouth scrumptious (splurged on Dover sole, a delicacy); service was impeccable but unpretentious--just right. Restaurant was filled with beautiful people of all ages (this was for late-night dinner). Staff was wonderful remembering to write Happy Birthday in chocolate sauce on dessert plate. We will go back. Actually a good place to take out-of-towners.

We made a reservation weeks ahead for a special occasion and were given the seat next to the door where you could not hear anyone talk. Since we had reserved way ahead it would have been nice if management had took this into consideration when assigning tables.

I last went to Mistral a year ago and left thinking the place had slipped. Tonight confirmed that assessment. Out appetizers arrived before our wine, we were never offered drinks and my wife had to send her to tough Osco Bucco back and it took so long I ate my meal alone. Even more frustrating was management lack of involvement. When the manager finally brought my wife's meal there was no apology and as he walked away I asked are you the manager? He said he was aware there was a problem and was going to investigate. I am not sure he would have talked to us hoping to get away if I had not stopped him. Disappointed

Having dined here many times, I recommend the crab ravioli, as an app or main course. Outstanding! The rack of lamb and duck is acceptable but not as flavorful or memorable as I would like. The service is prompt and courteous, wine list is fab and the vibe is cozy yet energetic.

This was our first visit. I am picky about restaurants and we have a very short list. Frustrated at the shortness of the list my wife picked this spot out, I am glad she did. My wife has a food allergy that is not the norm, the staff went out of their way without any hesitation and really worked to make sure she could have a wonderful evening. This has been met with rudeness at other restaurants but Mistral set the bar and invited us to call in a day to a week in advance and that the chef would take care to make the menu meet her needs! Both our meals were excellent. The risotto was out of this world and the fish very fresh and cooked to perfection. It was the perfect evening for her 50th birthday, we will be back.

We were 5 for a birthday dinner. The food was really fantastic and original. We each had a different dish and I can say the halibut was perfect. The only thing I would criticize is the lighting or the lack of it. Too dark at the table. Otherwise, it was a great experience. When in Boston, we will visit again.

This is one of our favorite Boston restaurants and the first one my husband thinks of when I ask "Where do you want to go for your birthday?" The food is unique and wonderfully prepared and the service is always attentive but not overwhelming. If possible, when making a reservation, ask for a table in the back of the restaurant for more privacy.

It is rare to find a restaurant of Mistral's vintage which continues to evolve and maintain such high standards of service, ambience and food. Our party of four was seated quickly on a very busy night. Our server, Andre, provided a high level of assistance with charm and professionalism. Starters were tuna tartare, lambs lettuce, fois gras stuffed ravioli and mains were local pork chop, salmon, lamb and dover sole. All were well prepared and among the best I've tried. Partnered with a Pinot Noir from Oregon and a cheese plate to finish, the evening was complete.

The ambiance was tasteful without being excessive in that room had character and sense of space. I highly recommend the sirloin and French Onion Soup with the steak being a particular treat. The cappuccino was pedestrian but did the trick. This was my first visit and will not be my last. Well done.

Given the prices at this restaurant, we found the food quality to be only average. The service was friendly, if a bit forced, but our server addressed our needs promptly. The problem that stands out was the temperature of the white wine, which was much too warm. We sent one glass back and received another that was colder. But our second round of wine was warmer than the first. We did enjoy the airy and light ambience of the dining room, which was a pleasant change from the cramped restaurants we had experienced in Boston. However, the bright TV over the bar directly visible from our table was a jarring note in an otherwise pleasant dining atmosphere.

With only one night to spend in Boston, I was quite fortunate to have selected Mistral as my dinner venue. The reception and waitstaffs were welcoming, enthusiastic, and quite helpful. It is extraordinarily nice to watch a restaurant staff enjoy their work, cooperating as needed to make the customer's experience flawless. Somewhere on the staff, there must be several excellent leaders to have assembled such an outstanding crew. To top it off, the grilled tenderloin of beef, Bordelaise style, olive oil roasted asparagus, and horseradish whipped potato were incomparably exquisite! Looking forward to my next excuse to visit Boston just to do it all again!

At a restaurant this expensive and classy, we expect outstanding service. Having to remind the waiter about our wine, having first courses (including a split salad) arrive at different times, and waiting a looong time for the check is just not the kind of service we should get. We actually ate here 6 months ago for a special occasion and the service was so poor that my husband complained. We were graciously offered a gift certificate which we used on this return visit, but it's not clear that the service has improved. The restaurant was only about half full so a busy floor can't be the excuse. It will be a looong time before we return.

I've heard about Mistral and how good it is many times. I've looked at the menu and Restaurant Week menu; but somehow, it never worked out.... I finally made it this past Sunday. Mistral is my new favorite restaurant! It's really pretty, the service was outstanding (both friendly and knowledgeable), and the food was just the way I like it: sophisticated. I'm not interested in restaurant food that I can easily make at home; I want to be blown away by the care and skill required for a "knock-their-socks-off" dish. Mistral's nailed it. We started with the Fois Gras and Fois Gras Meatballs, then for entrees had the Rack of Lamb and Lamb Shanks. No room for dessert. I will be back. A lot!

We were visitors to Boston who enjoy fine dining. I made reservations at Mistral because of its great reputation and this drew orgasmic responses at our hotel and the spontaneous quote "best French in the city". I think other worthy French restaurants in the area would have a serious and legitimate objection. The food at Mistral was frankly disappointing and the place is so loud that you can barely hear each other. When I think French, I think quiet, intimate and romantic. Not at Mistral. This is only the second restaurant review that I have written since I joined OpenTable where I have clicked I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend. Our local French here in Northern Jersey which is sadly not on OpenTable is much better.
