Diner Reviews
  • "The best thing about Mission Rock is the $1 oysters and extended happy hour (until 7pm weekdays). The next best thing is sitting outside, overlooking the Bay, and the occasional seal that pops up. Third best thing? No tourists or hipsters -- just SF peeps. Perfect time to go: 5pm any weekday. Great cocktail list, great wine and beer list, yummy oysters and fries. I've also gone for a special occasion dinner, and my friend's parents are having their 50th wedding anniversary party here soon, so this place works for large parties and special dates too."

  • "Second time at Mission Rock Resort. Service was better this time around although I admit the first time the restaurant was very busy for a Tuesday. Had the Salmon Benedict and it was excellent. Love sitting outside looking over the water and ships. Great spot to hit before a Giants game as it is nice to walk back to AT&T after a meal to burn off some off some calories. Also it is nice because it is much more quiet that the bars/restaurants that are adjacent to the park. I will be back again."

  • "Five of us, so speaking only for myself, the New England clam chowder was thin & watery, not thick & creamy as it should be. My crab Louie was a disaster of blahdom. No taste, nothing much but chopped lettuce & the little cup of sauce was tasteless. I had to ask for bread, but maybe that's just as well. My wife says her mussels were okay, but she too was quite disappointed in the chowder. The ambience & setting were great. The waitress as well. Place was empty at 1 pm except for their outdoor dining deck. I really think they need to work seriously on their offerings for the place to survive."

  • "A Gem! A rare find where food is great, view is exceptional, noise level is such that you can carry a conversation, even whisper. Catch the Happy Hour--oysters are cheaper albeit small sizes, but delicious. Bring a group and enjoy the food and the view! Maître d(a guy with rings working on 4/9) was a little haughty. Not a good person to represent the restaurant.Gives an initial negative impression. The other maître ds before were good. This is the first time I've seen this one.Consider putting someone at the front desk with a pleasant face and a lovely smile;a welcoming greeting would be a bonus."

  • "Food is good, not great, but good; great outdoor deck with heaters overlooking the water. Service is friendly and good."

  • "Had eggs benedict. English muffin barely toasted. Potatoes: some cold, some perfectly hot. It was raining so we had to sit inside but host seated us at a table in the middle of the dining room even though a more desirable window table was available (and we had reservations for a birthday). Been here many times, this is the first time I was somewhat disappointed."

  • "Had to take my son into the City early on Saturday and decided to have breakfast there. What a wonderful place to walk into. There is a great outdoor seating area but it was a little cool for outdoor eating. Great view of the bay, bright and airy. We had the braised beef hash and the Huevos Rancheros. It was a great way to start the day. Can't wait to come back again."

  • "This waterfront restaurant in the up and coming Dogpath/Mission Bay neighborhoods has great food, wonderful views and a nice vibe. Outdoor deck is ample and all tables have a great view of the water. Friendly staff."

  • "we sat outside on a gorgeous day. it doesn't get much better! we had a great waiter who was friendly and helpful and fun. the food was good, the bloody mary was great, and i was excited to see the addition of huevos rancheros to the brunch menu. i come here all the time - it's one of my faves in the neighborhood."

  • "Excellent food. Good environment for a non-rushed lunch. A little hard to find, but motivated to do so. Would recommend to others looking for a place with good seafood, a nice outlook, easy parking, and pleasant environment."

  • "this restaurant easily accommodated myself and six of my best friends, one of whom was a last-minute addition to the reservation, which was handled quickly and easily by the staff. we had plenty of space for a birthday party, and we lingered at our table chatting and drinking for close to three hours, none of which were (seemingly) problematic for this space. really appreciated that! because of the way the bar is situated at the end of the restaurant, people can sit and wait for tables (we didn't have to, we were ushered right in with a reservation) without imposing on any dining guests. the view is also lovely. the menu is nicely varied with savory and sweet items, and everything that our table had was excellent! will absolutely be back!"

  • "I absolutely love seafood and this place has so many good options. We ordered the Mac-n-cheese to start. I think they have the best Mac-n-cheese in the city. I also had the mussels with chorizo which were filled with flavor. Great ambiance; can't wait to go back again!"

  • "I hadn't been here in years and was very pleased to see how nice the renovations were. We were able to sit outside for lunch. My husband had the fish tacos and I had the fish and chips. Both were okay but pricey for what we got. You're obviously paying to the view. I'd go back for the $.99 oysters during their weekday happy hour. That's a bargain."

  • "We sat outside on a beautiful Sunday for brunch. The food was excellent, but the service was spotty. One waitress seemed to be servicing most of the outside tables, so service was slow. Coffee was served cold and replacement coffee was spilled so the saucer was full of coffee. I found an extra napkin to mop up the coffee. Our appetizers and main course were served at the same time and waitstaff continuously tried to take our plates while we were still eating. Waitstaff should be trained that a second course arrives after a first course is finished and that plates should be removed only after everyone at the table is finished eating."

  • "After going to Mission Rock often for relaxing Sundays 20-25 years ago it was a wonderful surprise to see the changes both in ambianc/decore and food. What a great spot. Everything we had was very good, from the Mussels, beautifully cooked, plump and fresh . The sauce had just enough heat. We all had fish and chips and we all agreed that the fish was the best cooked fish we've had when having fish and chips. The fries were crispy and seasoned well. Wine/beer selection was good and all in all it was a wonderful return. Will definitely go back routinely"

  • "Brought my team for a morale boosting lunch and thourouhly enjoyed it. If you want to avoid the hassles of a downtown restaurant and be treated to good food and service, this is the place to go. Easy to find and easy to park. I had the fish and chips, which were perfect for a lunch meal. One caution, if you are not a fish eater, be prepared to eat a hamburger, the only non fish item on the menu (besides mac and cheese). I'm looking forward to going back for dinner."

  • "Loved the location, amazed that hardly anyone was there at 7:00 PM, on a Wednesday? Is it still unfound? Food was excellent, especially the seafood dishes. The appetizers came out fast, with plenty to go around in our part of 8. Almost filled me up, before my entree. Will be back."

  • "Torpedo shrimp roll and greens were amazing. Bottomless mimosas were stellar. Bread pudding was to die for. Overall, a decent experience."

  • "but... they wisk plates off your table as if there were a shortage in the kitchen, fail to bring water and bread, the basics, unless requested, make no mention of dessert (maybe there is none) and it was all a bit perfunctory but the location is great and the food above average if somewhat on the stinting side."

  • "MRR offers a wonderful unique view of the S.F. Bay Area. On a fabulous sunny Saturday I had a $30.00 lunch that consisted of a nice shrimp and crab salad,($18.00),a cup of coffee and a shared slice of very nice chocolate pie. I would tell friends, go for the view and expect to pay for it."

  • "Food was decent but service was pretty terrible. Waitress forgot my dad's entree and didn't apologize. And not once did she ever check on us. We had to ask bus boys for help because all of us had gotten our food except him and they were the only ones around. Only then did she come over, but instead of apologizing, she asked if we wanted to order something else. She should have just owned up to her mistake instead of pretending like we just wanted to put in an extra order. In a party of 8 it was frustrating that the gratuity was automatically added because she did not deserve it. The food was not good enough to compensate for the lack of service. This is SF and there are way better options."

  • "I picked this restaurant for a special lunch with a friend since the weather report predicted sunshine and warmth in January. It was beautiful. The shrimp louis was fresh and delicious and my friend enjoyed a special salad. A pinot grigio was crisp and dry. Next time, I would bring a hat; the umbrellas blocked the sun for us but a reflection from a window was still too bright that day. I love the view of the bay from that deck! You may have to call to request the deck at popular times like weekends and holidays. I am sure my friend will never forget it."

  • "A 1000 point offer from Open Table lured us here. However, our misgivings about traveling on a cold, rainy night to this "isolated" location in China Basin were unfounded. Upon entering this huge building, we were instantly met with friendly staff, joyous laughter, and fragrant kitchen smells. We were ushered past the huge bar with its fun crowd downstairs and taken upstairs where another private group of revelers were enjoying their holiday party in an adjacent room. Although the cavernous room with tables for smaller parties seemed rather industrial and somewhat stark, the view onto the bay and the warmth of the staff made up for it. We enjoyed oysters, mussels, and jambalaya and appreciated the wine options by the glass. We will return."

  • "Excellent shell fish and best part, the kitchen serves all day. We had a late lunch at 3 pm and watched the sunset. Everything is casual, from dress to serving. Rare view of how old SF used to look at pier side. Along with wines, large beer selection too."

  • "We've been going to Mission Rock since when it was a "dive" to currently. No issues there except that the prices have quadrupled since the goodolddays and they allow too many dogs in and the neighborhood is now gentrified. Our only complaint, our reservation through OpenTable do not give us any points!!"
