Diner Reviews
  • "We booked a table here for dinner with International students. We had never been there, but chose it because it was walking distance from the hotel and the menu seemed to have enough options. We were all delighted with the choice. The appetizer portions were very large - we ordered the ceviche, shrimp and Brie, which was more than enough for the 6 of us. It was nice that sides were part of the entrees and not something we needed to order separately. Everyone enjoyed their fish and the sides complemented each. The only disappointment was the gnocchi that accompanied the pork shops. Neither of the two students that ordered it felt that it added anything to the dish. Desserts were also very large and could be shared. We will return."

  • "I like salads for lunch and they always have really good salads in plentiful portions."

  • "Two of us got the open face brisket sand which and it was completely flavorless and dry. We told the server and he was apologetic and took both off the menu. The house salad dressing was also totally flavorless. The appetizer, truffle cream cheese wontons, were tasty but had little to no cream cheese inside, which was peculiar. The red velvet cake was dry. We maybe were there on a bad day, but so many of the things our party ordered were bland. The service was very good and courteous, though, on the bright side. However, I doubt we willbe back."

  • "Good food and great price for business lunch and dinner."

  • "I ordered the Red Velet cake for dessert. It wasn't very good, but the waitress comped the cake, so that was nice. The bread was amazing. And my steak was pretty good."

  • "I had the meatloaf and it was terrible. Dry, dull, so bad it was rather shocking at a restaurant of this type and price range. My business companion had the salmon and it seemed ok."

  • "My husband and I had planned a date night away from our son and we're looking for a place with great steaks, seafood, and other options. This place was wonderful! We had put on our reservation that we needed GF options and they had so many options to choose from! They had lamb, steak, salmon, and many other meat options along with mashed potatoes, polenta, and other options and sides that were GF. I was not used to having so many options to choose from. Food, wine and service was great. I would definitely go back again."

  • "Appetizers tried were the truffle baked brie with a honey glazed arugula and the seafood ceviche. The brie was absolutely the creamiest and tastiest I've had--loved the truffle oil crust. My husband had the ceviche and thought it wasn't as spicy as he normally likes, but enjoyed the mix of flavors anyway. The entrees, recommended by our server, were also delicious. The plum braised lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone tender and tasty. Hubby had the roasted halibut which he felt was as good as the fresh ones he's had in Alaska! The bacon macaroni and cheese and the chinese green beans were tasty as well. Topped it all off with the creme brulee and salted caramel coffee. YUM! Service: OUTSTANDING!"

  • "I just work in the same building, and this restaurant is a great place to go if you have a lunch meeting to conduct. Not too expensive, food comes out relatively fast for a full service restaurant, servers are incredibly attentive. I definitely recommend."

  • "While lunch was very nice there, I have to admit that dinner was a bit disappointing. The food was good, but I had much higher expectations."

  • "I've been there for lunch many times and usually get the buffalo chicken salad, but decided to branch out; The fried oyster salad was great."

  • "Mission is a great spot for a business luncheon. The atmosphere is vibrant, the food is great and the service is wonderful."

  • "We had a group of 8. The oval table they set up for us was perfect, but the location of it wasn't that great. It seemed a bit crammed and close to the front door and bar. The food was wonderful. Everyone complimented it. Our service was awful. I do believe it was just the one server we happened to get that was a snob, but that was my one main complaint."

  • "For entrees, I had the NY Strip, cooked Medium rare - which was wonderfully prepared. It was paired with asparagus & au gratin potatoes. The Strip was topped with onion strings, which was a nice touch. I couldn't ask for a better dinner. My wife also had a great dinner experience. She ordered the the Guinness Short Ribs. It came with a side of carrots and mashed potatoes whipped with goat cheese. Yum! I tried a bite of all of these items (lucky me!) and this dish was "Awesome"! Lastly, we ordered wine with dinner - and lucky for us, apparently Tues and Saturday's are "half price bottle" night. Overall, our experience was excellent. We will definitely return for dinner another time in the near future and recommend to friends and family."

  • "Great location downtown MSP, we parked in the City Center ramp and walked over via the skyway, not having to go out in the February snow and cold. Dinner was fabulous and portions were large, our waiter was very cool, and 1/2 price bottles of wine on Saturday nights was a steal!! Just a block from the theatre district, it all made for a simple, delicious, fun girls night out! Can't wait to come back with my husband for a special dinner."

  • "Our evening from start to finish was very nice. The only negative was the meal I ordered which was baked Halibut. It was very tough, while my wife's streak was excellent. We did Order Ceviche which was only Ok. I would say from our experience sea food would be this restaurants weakness. Everything else was great."

  • "Went to celebrate two birthdays. Service was excellent and food delicious. Had the steak salad and was so pleased with the combination if flavors. Topped off our meal with the Creme brûlée. It was creamy & delicious."

  • "Went to Mission for dinner with friends. The atmosphere was perfect for conversation and the food was amazing. The waiter was great at accommodating my dietary needs and made great recommendations. Saturday night is 1/2 bottles of wine, which was PERFECT. Plan to budget a bit when you go there, but it is absolutely worth it! I saw a cute bar tucked around the corner, which I hope to stop at one of these days."

  • "We were in Minneapolis to see Evita and were looking for a place to eat prior to the show that was close to our hotel. All the restaurants by the theatre were booked solid. Mission was right beside our hotel and we were able to get a last minute reservation. The prime rib was delicious and my wife had the halibut, which she said was the best she's had. Topped it all off with banana cream pie, which I could have eaten all night. Very nice experience and will definitely go back next time in Minneapolis."

  • "A recent business lunch at Mission was wonderful! My out-of-town clients were impressed with both the food and the ambience. The seared scallops were tender and tasty! And the cheesy risotto was sooo yummy. In fact, the meal was so good that I'm going to take my hubby there for Valentine's Day. I can hardly wait to share the experience with him! (Note: Be sure to make reservations for lunch well in advance. People who didn't have reservations had to be turned away. It's that popular--and with good reason.)"

  • "I'm a fan of the Reuben Sandwich and usually order it if I find it on the menu. This is the first time I've ever had one open faced and absolutely loved it. It's a great variation! I met a friend for lunch at Mission and were seated outside (in the IDS Atrium). Even with the lunchtime traffic through the area, the conversation was great and didn't feel like we had to yell. This was my second visit to the restaurant and both times, the servers knew the menu well and offered suggestions to make our experience more enjoyable."

  • "The wait staff was perfect - not too intrusive but always there when you needed something. REALLY good food and a perfect spot for a business meeting."

  • "I had the Salmon Entree...and it was by far the best I have ever had! However, i would have hoped for salad as a starter or soup. We had some fresh baked bread...but there wasn't much for our hungry table and never got a refill."

  • "I must have misread the on-line menu, because the menu we received at the restaurant included items much higher priced than what I had seen. Our bill for two came to a hundred dollars (including the tip), which is on the high end for us. We had a great meal, however, as did our dinner companions. The wait staff was excellent and the atmosphere comfortable. We'd love to make Mission American a habit, but at these prices, that's not likely."

  • "Great food choices, good service, and the food was delicious!"

  • "Not a great place to go for a romantic date, the place can get very noisy especially if the bar is full (which it often is after work). No matter where you are in the restauant it can be deafening as there is no real barrier to prevent the noise. That said, the food is excellent; great selection, locally sourced ingredients. Everything we ordered we would order again. Will defintely plan on returning."

  • "The service is extremely friendly and personable fomr the moment you walk in the door to be seated. The good is delivered promptly and is very good."

  • "The decor of the restaurant is very dated and is not really comfortable - feels more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. The food was fine - not outstanding - and one dish arrived with the food rather cold."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "The desserts were delicious and a high point. The scallops were also wonderful. The halibat and meatloaf were disappointingly dry especially for such an upstanding restaraunt."

  • "I've been here plenty of times but was really impressed with the attentive service this go-round. Our waitress was outstanding as well as the other staff. Business dinner went great."

  • "While all the food was delicious, the banana cream pie stole the show. Other favorites were the butternut squash risotto and truffle cream cheese wonton. The main dishes were as expected."
    Dined on 12/19/2013
  • "As above. Two filets returned over cooked, halibut overcooked and dry, scallops well cooked but not seasoned. Desert was huge and very good. Get the basics right..."
    Dined on 12/19/2013
  • "This was the first time we had a complaint about the service but we were there during the height of the holiday lunch rush and it was pretty clear our waitress was fairly new. Of note, we did not get our beverage until after the soup was delivered. Also, one of our salads was served without dressing and it took a while before the server re-appeared to request a side of it. She was very nice and apologetic however."

  • "We took clients here for lunch and it was so noisy that talking was a real challenge. Three of us ordered the salmon entre and no-one commented on it so I think everyone felt like I did about it. The sauce was way overpowering and the risotto was mushy. Wouldn't recommend or return here."
