  • "Great spot for lunch. Delicious and great, varied menu. Worth a walk (or short car ride) from downtown Silver Spring. "

  • "This was a very nice buffet. The amazing thing were the oysters on the half shells part of the buffet. They also had steamed muscles, clams and crab lags. The steamship round at the carving station was rare to well done. The desserts were numerous with incredible bread pudding with hard sauce. The servicer at the table and the buffet were all so very nice and conscientious. Our table was a bit rocky but a gentleman saw the problem and fixed it right away."

  • "Sunday Brunch at Ms. K's is the best brunch in the DMV. The whole staff is great and the food is fresh and delicious. Also the decor is amazing."

  • "We went for Sunday brunch, our first visit. It's an old house with lots of small rooms. It was a warm day and the room we were in was very warm, no moving air. We had to walk through a couple of rooms to get to the buffet, then carry our food back to that small room. In hindsight I wish we had sat outside, although those people had to carry their food all the way around the house and down some steps to get to the patio. It's just not an ideal set-up, especially with narrow doorways and many large people moving around..."

  • "Enjoyed a very basic brunch on a lovely venue. I thought at least a mimosa or some other offer should have been put forth as an addition to the menu, but no. Food was very basic and not terribly inviting. I can see private dinners downstairs, but brunch is a snooze. Quite sad."

  • "Food was very good, the atmosphere was wonderful. We dined downstairs in the cellar, it was great."

  • "Delicious food. Excellent service. Incredible wine list. A great place for a spcial occasion!"

  • "Charming, well established restaurant with a varied menu, all very well prepared on our recent visits. Both times, we were in the cozy wine cellar -- a bit cold in the winter, but the staff was quick to provide an auxiliary space heater. Being down there in a tiny room all by ourselves on one visit, we wondered if we would be neglected, but the staff was unobtrusively attentive."

  • "They called to confirm my reservation and I didn't answer. I called back and was able to confirm my reservation. When I arrived the hostess was not pleasant and we got bumped from the main dining room as I had requested. Once my party was seated I realized that we did not have enough seats. I returned to the hostess stand and she said well I called you and you didn't answer. When I stated that I had in fact called back and gotten an increase in seats she said well it's not in the system. That's strange because I received an email with the updates I made to my original reservation. Customer service goes a long way in this business. If you are not a people person than perhaps working as a hostess is not the job for you."

  • "I took a few work friends with me to a Happy Hour in the wine cellar. I wasn't sure how they would react since they are all used to going to downtown Bethesda with its wealth of restaurants to choose from. I was pleasantly surprised when they said that Mrs. K's would be our new place to go! The service was excellent and the appetizers we tried were all great!! (The only one no one enjoyed were the fried artichokes...They tasted frozen and the flavor of the artichokes were overpowered by the batter. Other that that one criticism everything else was awesome!!) Thanks for a great evening."

  • "Mrs. K's has significant history and is a charming place if you appreciate the antiques, etc. The food is good. Make sure you ask for a seat in the main dining room or terrace; otherwise you'll be traipsing up and down stairs all the time if you are having brunch. There is only one food buffet. In summer the place is prettier with window boxes and flowers all around the outside. If you have a group of eight, e.g., you must wait until everyone is present to be seated, and the waiting area is very small."

  • "I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The food was delicious, hospitality wonderful, and the toll house itself historically ambient."

  • "We've been fans of Mrs K's for decades, and love the fact that it has updated itself for a new generation without losing touch with its roots (e.g. the little dishes of sorbet before the main course). We went on Saturday for my husband's birthday, and both food and service were wonderful. A real neighborhood treasure!"

  • "We ordered a frech dip sandwich, an angus burger and a turkey reuben. Forst the food took FOREVER to arrive, the au jus for my French dip arrived a good fifteen minutes later along with the mayonnaise for my husband's burger. After our meal our server disappeared and my husband had to go to the front of the restaurant to ask for someone to bring the check to our table. The food was non-remarkable at best with the exception of the angus burger that was fairly tasty. The other plus was the lovely grounds and great character of the restaurant. Given the proximity to our home, we may give it one more try to see if they are better for brunch or dinner."

  • "This restaurant is walk-able for my family so we decided to give it a try for Sunday brunch. It's definitely a lovely place inside, but it's quite over-priced for what you get. Considering the wait staff only brings beverages and clears the table, and you have to get your own food, the 18% gratuity automatically added to our party of 5 (4 adults + 1 child) seemed excessive, especially when the brunch cost for food only is $35/pp. We won't be going for brunch again. We're trying Urban Butcher for brunch next!"

  • "Went with a part of 4 on a Sunday. Made reservations the night before for 11 AM. Great idea! We were sat right away and had a fabulous time with our friends. Food was fabulous! Lots of different choices. My husband and I eat fish but not pork/chicken/beef, so there were a lot of great choices for us. Bread pudding was awesome. Service was great! We always had water as well as hot tea and coffee. Alcohol drinks are a la carte which could get expensive. Would be nice if they had bottomless mimosas included in the $30 price tag."

  • "Brunch for two came to over $70.00. Even though we had a reservation we still had to wait more than 20 min. The place was very crowded. The Buffett was average."

  • "Took my 82 yr old aunt for a birthday brunch. First, didn't realized they serve ONLY brunch on Sunday morning/afternoon, so it cost a little more than I expected. Service was very good; food was excellent. Not the best venue for older folks. Mrs. K's accommodated a wheelchair (saw a previous review that suggested reserving a table in the room level with the buffet) and our group of seven. Using the rest room was out of the question, though -- up 6-7 narrow steps. There were two much quieter rooms up on those levels -- easier to hear on 80 & 90 year old ears -- I wish I'd known about earlier. Beautiful place and held lots of memories for my Mom and aunt, who grew up in Takoma Park."

  • "During a Friday dinner rush, only about 1/4 of the original restaurant was occupied, let alone the build out. This may say more about how dining preferences have changed than how Mrs. K's itself has changed. No telling. It used to sell out. The food was pricey for what it was. The $13 blue crab gazpacho was chunks of tasteless crab over a thin tasteless gazpacho. The $36 lamb shank was good, but not $36 worth. At one point, the young waiter came out to check on us, literally holding his cell phone in one hand - apparently anxious to get back to whatever it was he had been doing. That being said, Mrs. K's remains a beautiful venue, and I suspect I'll return occasionally - more out of old time's sake than out of excitement about the menu."

  • "Great place to meet friends for a Sunday brunch. Quite a nice assortment of foods a the brunch buffet and a very nice dessert table as well. Noise level is a bit high. Plenty of windows overlooking a garden area make the restaurant bright and cheery. Our waiter was attentive in removing dirty plates and giving coffee refills."

  • "Had to wait to be seated even though we got there early and there were plenty of open tables. The brunch buffet was a good assortment of things, too many sweets and not enough fruit/veg options, though. Nice that they offer seafood options as well as prime rib and ham. Service was better than I expected (had read some not great reviews about the service) and our server was attentive without being hovering. All in all a good experience."

  • "We had a great time. It was about 7 of us and we really enjoyed ourselves. The food was delicious. Our waiter was GREAT!! He was so attentive and we never had an empty glass or finished plate sitting on our table. I would definitely recommend Miss K's. We will continue to eat there."

  • "Been coming to Mrs. Ks for 38 years. It's changed a lot - gone are the Peanut Soup and lazy susan salads. Service has suffered over the years. Brought me coffee with no spoon. Check with no pen. Little things like this that shouldn't exist. Didn't help 2 couples sat next to us with infants - this restaurant is NOT kid friendly. One Mom asked for a changing table restroom. Riiight... I'm not sure I'm going back anytime soon unfortunately. Too much $ for what you get in return. Saddens me."

  • "My mother was in town for a quick weekend trip and we brought her here. The food selection wasn't vast, but it was tasty, particularly if you like seafood. The bread pudding reminded my mother of what her mother used to make. Mrs. K's looks like your grandmother's country home and feels warm in that way. We sat in the sun room with a view of the yard which was well landscaped, even in February. While we were there it began to snow and we felt like we were inside a snow globe. Just a perfect ending to our weekend."

  • "We enjoyed our visit to Mrs. K's tollhouse. The food was very good. Our only problem was encountered with our 84 yr. old mother who could not navigate steps well. Our reservation was at 11:30. When we arrived they wanted to seat us downstairs. The lighting was poor and my mother could not see the steps. We had to wait another 40 minutes for an upstairs table. Make sure you put on the reservation upstairs or down."

  • "Overall the experience was fair/good. In the past (over 20 times), I would have rated outstanding under all areas. All of my prior reservations have been between 11 and 1pm and not the last seating at 2:30pm. The food that was available was very good, but the brunch was not fully restocked. The service was very friendly. We felt rushed as the brunch ended earlier then reported when I called to confirm my reservation and the ending brunch time. Go early for an outstanding experience."

  • "Mrs. K's Toll House faces a busy street, but, in back, has a large and beautiful yard, even in winter. Sit in the back room for a bright, pleasant experience. sunday brunch is a buffet: omelets to order, including with crab meat, waffles, and to order as french toast. Because these are made fresh, they are the best options. Some of the food that sits on the buffet gets soggy. the sausage wasn't hot, though the bacon was crispy. Still the oysters, which are on ice, were terrific; the shrimp was kept hot, and was good; and the smoked salmon was also very good. I was surprised to find that the creamed spinach was both hot and wonderful. Finally, there were lots of dessert choices, and all the desserts my party and i tried were very good."

  • "My mom loved the Toll House. We had many family meals here. Holidays, mother's day and a nice place in the neighborhood to bring guests. Glad you are still here. I like to stay close sometimes and not have to go to downtown, Bethesda or Chevy Chase. Parking great! No tickets."

  • "Sunday Brunch or dine out, Mrs. K's Tollhouse is an excellent recommendation in the Silver Spring area. The kitchen is outstanding, the portions are generous and the atmosphere of the house is traditional and stylish. Like to go there."
