Since 1986, Mise en Place has developed into Tampa’s premier restaurant for modern American cuisine with an exciting and dynamic menu and flavors reflecting award-winning Chef-Owner Marty Blitz's insatiable love of food. His cooking style incorporates the regional flavors of our global community on the West Coast of Florida with his European training in the classics. The passion of independent proprietor Maryann Ferenc reflects in the spirit of the staff and the level of personal care in your dining experience. Mise En Place features an extensive and ever-changing wine list, and Wine Director Dave Madera has an extraordinary capability to pair your meal with a sensational glass of wine, elevating the dining experience. Chef Marty Blitz's passion goes beyond the regular menu items, for he has created a "Get Blitzed Tasting Menu" that incorporates a five course menu paired with wine.

  • "My wife and I had been wanting to try this place out and we weren't disappointed. I was adventurous and tried a coffee mole chile tuna dish and was not that impressed. It was so-so. My wife was more conservative and it paid off. Her tenderloin filet was cooked to perfection and the said the brussel sprouts were the best she's ever had. She insisted she could have eaten a whole plate of them. "

  • "Four of us had a spectacular meal. Wonderful wine list. We enjoyed the beef carpaccio and calamari. For our entrees: venison, beef tenderloin, grilled tuna, and grilled salmon were all spectacular. All were beautifully prepared, fresh, and inventive. Portions are generous and 2 of us needed doggie bags. A wonderful wine selection at every price level. A number of Russian River Pinots! and many other great choices... Service was impeccable. "

  • "We met another couple there for dinner while visiting St Pete/Tampa area. This was our first time at Mise en Place and we will definitely return whenever we are in the area. All 3-4 courses were excellent and the service was top notch. Also they have a very good wine list with some hard to find smaller releases. Great for foodies and a nice outing with friends/family."

  • "After reading the reviews, I am not sure that I was at the same Mise en place as others. The food was AWFUL...all of my tables meals came out cold, which with an empty restaurant is just crazy. The food also had no flavor. They are trying to do too many things instead of doing select things really well. Menu can be very overwhelming as it is adjective OVERLOAD. Ambience ok, minus the loud cackling patrons in the bar that could be heard throughout the restaurant. Management did try to make things right, but when you can't make a decent salad, or serve hot food in an empty restaurant, you lost me. Definitely will never go back. Overpriced and underperform."

  • "Expected different food mixings , spices and flavors and we did get that. However , some of it just did not work and the food was a little on the heavy side. The restaurant was very dark and had no ambiance. My wife and I went a there after tasting their food at the cafe at the Tampa Art Museum, which we enjoyed very much. Unfortunately the restaurant did not match our experience at the cafe."

  • "We live in Valrico (Brandon) and can safely say there are no fine dining experiences to be had in either town that compare with the experience at Mise En Place. It was perfect from start to finish, great food and excellent choices even for vegetarians. An outstanding wine list and very personable servers made it a delightful first time dining experience.   • "We were very excited about trying this restaurant but were disappointed with the food. One person in our group ordered the tasting menu and was rushed and her food was only okay. My salad and Rack of Lamb lacked flavor and was tough. The best thing we all had were the complimentary appetizers. They were wonderful. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and the staff were polite and attentive. We will not return since there are so many wonderful choices in Tampa."

  • "It has been several years since we dined at Mise en Place, and we are sorry that it's been so long. Our dinner experience was excellent, over-the-top. The staff members are professional and efficient. The menu is varied and exciting. We ordered the venison, which was superb, and fried green tomatoes - what a treat! Our server, Kris, informed us they also serve lunch. Mise en Place is great for a pre-theatre dinner. We are eager to return."

  • "Wow! What a great experience. This was one of the most innovative, interesting and delicious meals we have had in months, throughout several US and international cities. We tried the veal, snapper, duck and venison 2nd plates, the Fried green tomatoes, foie gras and grilled shrimp 1st plates and a few appetizers. All unbelievably delicious. Pair this with a fabulous, well chosen and reasonably priced wine list with varied selections for all tastes and wallets and you have what should be an internationally recognized and lauded restaurant. We can't wait to return, and send lots of friends!"

  • "We got married here two years ago and people still talk about the food served at our wedding; so we decided to go for our second anniversary and we were not disappointed. Food was absolutely fantastic, service perfect. If I had to suggest (not complain) is that the restaurant enforces a dress-code that matches the food and ambiance. We entered the restaurant at the same time as some young people, I assumed they were delivering something to the restaurant by the way they were dressed (baseball cap, long-shorts and flip-flops); to my surprise they were there to dine!! Added to that the language used by these guys was not appropriate. Fortunately they left quite quickly. This is still the best place in Tampa to have a special dinner."

The food was very good, but, considering the prices, we felt we should not have needed to remind and re- remind him that he had served food which we did not order and reorder food we had ordered! We were charged for food we never received. But at that point just let it go -"

  • "I expected more based on the reviews and recommendations We went last night for our 25th anniversary dinner. We did note the occasion on our reservation but it was not mentioned or recognized in any way. Our waiter was not very personable but the waitress who was helping him and seemed to take over our table towards the end of our meal (our waiter took over a table of ladies next to us) was very nice . All in all, the food was very good but not great. I think our experience could have been better with more attentive service that didn't feel like we were being rushed through. Our whole $150 dinner was complete in about 30 minutes!"

  • "We had booked a table at Mise en Place for a belated Valentine's day romantic dinner and had asked for a "quiet table." We were seated in the corner of the upper level, which at first glance, felt like it should have been a secluded nook, but the table below us was very boisterious & opinionated - and we ended up being overwhelmed by their conversation. In addition, our server appeared in a rush, speeding through the specials and his "favorites" on the menu without ever taking a breath, and jumping on top of us, trying to anticipate what we were saying before we could finish our thought. As a result, there was often miscommunication. Nevertheless, the food was tasty and creative."

When you over pay for a glass of wine you should at least be served a glass of wine. So my advice to friends would be to pre drink before coming to this establishment."

  • "The ambiance and service was very good at Mise en Place. The food was also good but nothing really stood out to me or the rest of the group. Everything was cooked perfectly and there was honestly nothing bad about the food but with the price I was expecting to be wowed. There was no one thing that I ate that I was absolutely in love with and usually when I go out to a really great restaurant I cannot get the meal out of my head. For instance, I ate at Grille One Sixteen last Friday and I keep reminiscing about how amazing the food was. I would have absolutely no complaints if the prices were just a bit lower."
