I've been visiting all the Japanese food restaurants in the Silicon Valley/ South Bay area and Misaka is the winner. I usually order comparable menus including Gyutan, Hirame Carpaccio and Kushiyaki (skewers) and this place has the extra touch that really enhances the flavor of the different fresh ingredients. For those of you who can differentiate good Japanese food from awesome Japanese food, this is the place!

  • Chairs too short for tables

On our recent trip to Misaka Grill we chose to sit outside on the patio because the weather was beautiful and the indoor area was very noisy. Our chairs were so short compared to the tables that both my husband and I had sore backs by the end of the meal. The food was decent, but very expensive. The duck skewers were my favorite. Because everything is small plates, it takes quite a few plates to fill you up. The waitresses were friendly, but the owner? was quite rude to me when I told him I didn't like a glass of wine I had ordered. It was a good meal, but for the over $160 we spent for 2 we will probably not be returning anytime soon. There are several better options for Japanese food in the same neighborhood.

First time visit to Mikasa Grill. We placed orders of kushiyaki - japanese grilled skewers. We ordered off the daily special kushiyaki menu (the blackboard) and had tontoro with garlic (jowl), saikyo momo (chicken thighs), kano (duck breast), bara pork belly, saikyo black cod, tatsuta- age (fried chicken) and okaka musbui (bonito). Food was well done, well seasoned everything was a favorite. James, the owner stopped by the table to introduce himself and welcome us to the restaurant and even sent over a complimentary plate of nigiri of hotate (scallops) and it was really sweet and delicious along with all the other items that we ordered off the kushiyaki menu. I'll be back for more kushiyaki.

Food was outstanding, service was a bit slow, but it was their second day. It was nice to meet the owner. Jazz was also quite good.

Everything we ordered was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious! It's not your typical sushi place. The skewers, particularly the chicken wings and pork bellies, were so good we ordered more. And the hamachi was some of the best most melt-in-your-mouth I've ever had.

Food: really good. each skewer has its own sauce. That made each skewer different. Most skewers in Chinese, Japanese, American, Malaysian or Mediterranean use same sauce and made me get bored at 3rd skewers (even though different taste like beef, lamb, chicken) Duck, Pork with Garlic wrap, chicken are my favorites. My friend love chicken butt, squid, scallop as well. Sashimi are very fresh. Will definitely pay next visit again to try out Uni (Sea Urchin). Don't forget to leave stomach for dessert only sold here: Japanese red bean fried donuts. It was delicious and great ending to finish a dinner :)
