Miramar Beach RestaurantComing here for years ... butnow they have valet parking...this isn't the type of restaurant to have valet parking. I'm wondering if too many beach go'ers used their parking lot? We had to park out on a side street since we did not use valet. While we made reservations we were stuck in a very small table off to the side of the restaurant. View of ocean still spectacular. I had a crab louie salad and companion had salmon sandwich--both were excellent. While we have been coming here for literally 20+ years the crowds, plus the valet, plus the noise level is making me re-think if we find a new Half-Moon Bay restaurant. Server was excellent; person seating us had a major attitude like she was doing us a favor by seating us.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDate NightCalamari was perfect. Seafood chowder, some of the best ever! I Calamari steak was cooked to perfection, the veggies were good, t. My husband had one of the specials of the day, a blackened salmon with a beurre blanc sauce, It was amazing. Cooked perfectly! We shared a a piece of carrot cake for dessert and it was delicious. The frosting was a little on the sweet side, should have had more cream cheese less powdered sugar (but I'm a baker so I can be a little picky about that!) but I would definitely order it again, one of the best I've ever had at a restaurant. Our server was Juan and he was terrific, attentive but not intrusive and seemed to enjoy his job. Recent visits have surpassed all my expectations. Since I make the best Salmon in the West, I was reluctant to follow my servers lead about trying their grilled Salmon special of the night, but I did. The fish was grilled perfectly, pink and moist inside, covered with fresh artichoke hearts and drizzled with cayenne tomato/olive oil that gave the whole dish heat and bite. Well done.
My wife's Ceasar Crab salad was generous and the best I have eaten.

Miramar Restaurant is always my first stop, They see the spectacular ocean view from inside the restaurant, we've always had great food and service, and been seated quickly (we do reservations). Lots of mellow surf, bluffs a few miles north, and great sunshine - this day in May. Take your chances of getting fogged in. Very good reasonably priced food. The staff was a little overmatched, not much, by the Tuesday lunch crowd though. Overall a very good historic spot. It's a really long drive, so it's once a year or so, but every year once at least with friends from the east coast and west. I neglected to mention the baby. We got there 10 minutes before. They had a table reserve for 2 but noticed we had our little guy with us. We didn't even think to mention it. They were good enough to find us another seat to accomendate our little guy. We didn't have to wait long at all. The food and wait staff were good and the view is fantastic. It was a beautiful Mother's day. It was a very nice experience! Both of us started with Bloody Mary's, which were good. Then, for lunch, we both had the blackened salmon sandwhich. I changed the bread to a ciabatta roll, which was a really smart choice since the sandwich held together much better with the heartier roll. The only negative I would have to say about lunch is that the french fries were just.....eh....okay. They just weren't remarkable like the sandwich was. It is definitely a neighborhood meeting place, but the locals seem to genuinely enjoy out-of-towners. Miramar has wonderful employees who really make you feel like they enjoy having you in their home!!! No rushing of the guests. Each table clearly was being serviced by its particular schedule. We arrived early to enjoy the view and the bar. "Loopy", our bartender was attentive and provided everything we needed. The piano player was perhaps the best keyboard player I have ever heard. Turns out he is a Grammy nominee and has played piano for just about every entertainer that is anyone in the music business. His name Is Terry Disley and plays there frquently---not to be missed.
Our dinner began with their seafood margarita---a sundae glass packed with ceviche style dungeness crab, shrimp and cod. Pecan encrusted halibut was great.

When making our reservation, we'd requested a window table, knowing that it couldn't be guaranteed. We arrived early and had a drink and appetizer in the outdoor patio area (the chill wind tempered by the heaters). Once seated indoors, we had an excellent meal (filet mignon and lobster for two of us; ono for the birthday celebrant)--not cheap, but well worth the price. The service, both on the patio and in the restauarant, was excellent throughout: attentive without being smothering, friendly without being cloying. The ocean view is spectacular. You don't have to have a window seat to have a wonderful view of the ocean. Just about every table is great. Service is excellent. I am very observant about the subtleties of restaurant service and it is clear that Miramar hires experienced wait staff who know their craft, and reinforces a customer service forward environment. The food is very good. I would not say it is outstanding, but it is solid, fresh, well prepared and presented, and enjoyable.
