the prepared food was much better than the sushi. Oyster Po boy was excellent and the beef tacos were very good. the sushi rice was hard and cold and the fsh was just OK. Id avoid the desserts

Went early with a small group (4), including my seven year old son. It was nice and quiet, good variety on the menu. The winter special "berry" roll was actually quite good and different. Everyone was pleased with their food. Server was attentive and helpful. Will definitely be back.

I love this place because of their innovative, fresh, delicious fusion combination rolls and dishes! This place has your typical Japanese sushi rolls and dishes but with a twist... Go there if you want your taste buds to wake up! I promise you won't be disappointed :-)

I was visiting a friend in NY and I told her I had to have some sushi! Looked on Zagat and this place scored an overall 26 out of 30! Also someone compared it to Nobu in LA and honestly this was probably better! Must try the volcano roll, Hawaiian roll, magic roll, and the very berry roll! My friends and I loved it...service was great as well as the ambiance. Definitely make reservations; perfect dinner spot.

Went with my family for a birthday celebration. Had a few members who did not eat sushi (or so we thought...) There was a great selection of delicious small plates (beef tacos, kobe beef sliders, noodle bowls) for those who did not eat the sushi. The sushi was extremely fresh and delicious, with interesting spins in the specialty rolls. The Hawaiian roll and crispy rice stuck out the most. Managed to convert a non-sushi eater into trying each of the rolls we ordered, as well as ordering additional rolls. I would definitely eat here again; a great spot with great drinks, delicious, innovative food, and extremely attentive service.

  • Not ready for izakaya prime time
    DiningDocsVIP
    Dined on 10/16/2014
We wanted to try this highly rated izakaya in NYC and we're excited to go. Upsides: earnest service, good sliders and good saki selection. Downsides more numerous: sashimi salad has bad pieces of fish in it (tin-tasting), kitchen closed without anyone telling us, & the sushi rolls tasted alike. This couldn't compete in a more heavily Japanese area but Manhattan-ites seemed to like it. We definitely don't recommend for those with izakaya experience or those who want to have conversation over dinner.

The restaurant advertising their happy hour but they only give happy hour price at the bar. It was not noted anywhere which is the only problem. I waited at the bar & had a drink while my friend arrived. We were seated then she tried to order a drink & then the waitperson told us it was only at the bar. This is common in NYC but wouldve been nice to know before we were seated.

My wife and I love sushi and to celebrate our 15th anniversary during our visit to NYC, we chose to have dinner at Mira Sushi & Izakaya. We had a fantastic time, and the food was wonderful. For an appetizer, we had the Salmon Skin Crostini. For dinner we had the Rock Lobster Roll, the Hawaiian Roll, the Malibu Bay Roll, and an order of the Beef Bulgogi Tacos. The restaurant is off the beaten path for tourists, which suited us just fine. It has the vibe of a cozy neighborhood sushi bar. If I could go back every week, I would!

This is a neighborhood place that I just discovered, which is especially great because I just returned from a trip to Tokyo and the food is spot on to the menus there. Try the skewers (hakitori), the sesame leaf appetizer. For the rolls, you must get the rock lobster. The sake list is good and has great variety. Spend more to get better quality sake. We paid $42 for 300ml and it was worth it.

I was searching for a place with Spicy Edamame and this place had it. We loved the look and feel of this place from the moment we walked in. We sat at the bar and enjoyed happy hour before dinner at the bar. The specials of the day were amazing from the Soft Shell crab to the salmon crostini which was perfection . We had a roll that was on the specials with toro and one the waitress recommended called Miso over you roll. Absolutely delicious. So many more things on the menu we want to try. We will be back soon. Thank you for the great service and food.

My first time at this unassuming place, and what a delight. A friend and I went for lunch. The food was fabulous -- we mostly had rolls and a kind of sashimi tuna salad. We liked the idea of $2 extra for "sides," in our case spicy edamame and pickled daikon, both terrific. The sake, not very expensive, was milky and delicious. We will be back for sure!

I've never been to a place where the hostess was unfriendly; until now. Upon entrance and exit I tried greeting her and rebuffed with complete silence. Sadly, she was a precursor to the food which was also without any personality. Not bad, just not great. The wait staff was good and the food arrived quickly but that's as good as it gets.

We will definitely be back. It started questionable as our table was not ready. The hostess tried to help the situation by offering us drinks on the house which was a nice gesture but it was annoying to have to wait 15 minutes. But then we ate the food and everything was well presented and delicious. Given how they handled the late table and the delicious food, we will definitely be making this place a regular go-to for sushi and creative fusion foods.

Great meal! The Spicy Tuna pizza was amazing. The thought of spicy tuna on pizza really was not something we were ready to jump at, but our waiter talked us into it and we pretty much just let him order for us after that! Also enjoyed the Korean tacos, and they had a variety of other not so traditional rolls, along with a good selection of sake.

Great spot. I was worried about a couple of the week ratings amid mostly good ratings, and once i got there was very pleased. I had a bit of sushi, which was good, but the non-sushi items were the most interesting. beef bulgogi tacos and the asian sliders were excellent. Reasonable prices, great food, and a stellar cucumber mart even though it wasn't on the extensive cocktail menu.

We had a great experience at Mira Sushi. Dish after dish was greeted with ooohhs and aaaahhs; the quality, presentation, and preparation of the sushi was outstanding, and we are sushi-files. Had requested chef to play a little heavy metal guitar for our son's birthday (really, he does that!) but that evening it turned out not to be possible. He was so gracious, however, inviting me into the kitchen to apologize and promising to play for us next time we come in. Which we definitely will! Mira Sushi & Izakaya provided a memorable dining experience!!!

The food here is consistently excellent. It has the same high quality fish as all of the top sushi restaurants in the city, but at moderate prices and without the long waits. The service here is always friendly and they also have a good selection of sakes and cocktails. In my opinion this is the best casual sushi place in the city.
