Mio RestaurantGood food, mediocre serviceWe arrived 6:30 Pm on a Thursday night to a busy bar scene, relatively noisy, but were seated quickly toward the back where the noise was not as bad. Our waitress was prompt and courteous, and we ordered drinks and appetizers. Calimari was delicious if a little on the greasy side, and fritters were also tasty. Main dishes were well prepared with ample portions - I had the whole fried red snapper "chillo frito" which was excellent, with a salsa of onions and olives and fried plantains. We finished our meal and were too full for desert, plates were cleared, and then...nothing. After 45 minutes, we cornered a waiter and insisted that they bring the bill. Nice not to be rushed out, but there are limits. Still, excellent Puerto Rican fare.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious!Went after work with 2 friends. Waiter was very friendly and explained the menu choices very patiently. I felt he really understood how the dishes were prepared, what ingredients went into them, and what they tasted like. We had 3 appetizers (yes the calamari is as good as everyone says), 2 carafes of sangria, 3 entrees and 1 shared dessert. It was filling but somewhat pricey. $190 for the table, not including tip. The food was very tasty, we weren't disappointed and would definitely recommend to others!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMIt could not been better,It could not been better, will really recommend it if you are looking for a really tasty Latin fusion food.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional Food, Service, decorThis was my 12 visit to Mio, so I knew what to expect.
My guests were blown away by the food, cool decor and outstanding service.
Price was a bargain as always6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA group of us celebrated myA group of us celebrated my recent retirement at the Mio Restaurant. The food was excellent; we will definitely go there again. The waiter explained everything on the menu and even the specials that they had for the day. Very professional group of individuals and with a pleasant smile which is a plus!
I mentioned to the waiter to please convey my compliments to the chef for the excellent dinner that we had and to my surprise, the chef Giovanna Huyke came out to personally thank us at the table. When I think of customer service I think of the Mio Restaurant!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Birthday's & all occasionThis was a great place to eat and the food was awesome!!!! The staff was great and very friendly and the Chef was wonderful!!! Loved it.... We will go back and have already recommended the restaurant to our friends....5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious DinnerJust recently dined at Mio with one of my clients; we had a fantastic time and enjoyed the wine list. Thanks for the fantastic service; the Mahi Mahi was divine.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! This place is REALLY good. Incredible Ambience Very tasty and best of all Very Puertorrican!!! Loved it!!!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the bestMy wife and I thought they did everything right. The service was wonderful, the food was very good just the right portions.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMCaribbean DeliciousnessThis was only my second time venturing into Caribbean cuisine and I was not disappointed. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I went with two coworkers for lunch and ordered the skirt steak. The meat was tender, cooked perfectly, and flavorful. I also liked the arugala salad, which came with a delicious dressing that was perfect for the slight bitterness of arugala. I will definitely be returning soon. Thanks to Mio and Cuba libre, where I ate a few days prior to Mio, for opening up a whole new world of cuisine for me.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDinnerI'd been there twice for lunch and loved it for both food and atmosphere. I took a small group (7) there for dinner based on that experience. The food was still great but it was too noisy to even converse across the table without raising our voices. It didn't seem overly crowded on a Wednesday evening but service was slow. I would highly recommend it for lunch and dinner for anyone not interested in conversation.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMHot hot hotFood was great! It was so hot in the restaurant I thought I was going to pass out. To their defense, most restaurant we went to were too warm for comfort to us.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Puertorican Food in WashingtonGreat Puertorican Food at a reasonasble price i go there everytime I an in DC try it you will love5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMNight out spotThe food was very good. We especially loved the lasagna made with plantains. Good idea to make a reservation. The staff was very passionate about their food. The kitchen was energetic and interacted with the staff. Nice place for a date night or get together with a few friends.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the food!! Yummy!! ItLove the food!! Yummy!! It is one of my favorites rest. in D.C.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyableI liked just about everything here - the food was good, nice atmosphere, good outdoor dining. If anything, the service was a little too fast - like they were trying to get us in and out. I was a little disappointed with the dulce de leche mousse - it had no taste. But I will definitely come back again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter Happy HourThe food was outstanding as before. We made reservations for 7:30PM during a weeknight. Don't do it if you want to talk.
We shouted with our guests until about 9PM and then it became a restaurant.
The food is consistently good and our server is outstanding. We just need a way to put some glass panels around the eating area to lower the decibels from the bar area.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFine dining, rooted in PuertoRicoWe were very impressed with the excellent food -- Mahi Mahi with yucca mofongo, and a veal entree... Tostones app was great too. This is unique cuisine that takes the best of PR and dresses it up alot -- probably fancier and better than most food on the isla, and a bit more expensive, but WELL WORTH IT !5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFriday @ MioMio is very good, I've been there a couple of times with friends. This past Friday I took a friend of mine from Korea to taste latin cuisine; Puerto Rican to be more specific. Service was great and the environment was friendly.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious. ForThe food was delicious. For me, the difficult part was finding something light and healthy. not great for the waistline, but great for the tongue!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Discovery - Don't tellTook a friend for birthday dinner.
He complained that the tostones had been re-heated.
I had Mahi Mahi and a salad. Both were great. Salad was a perfect balance of acid, fruit flavor and greens. The fish was exceptionally good.
The mojito was the best in this town. Having a Cubano behind the bar was the reason for this rush of flavor. The tres leches made me jealous that I can never make it like this.
Moist, flavorful cake without a drip.
I would like to try the outside al fresco when the weather warms a bit more.
They have a great Malbec and not served too warm as is the case with a lot of DC restaurants. They know not to store it in the kitchen.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrated my daughters 15thCelebrated my daughters 15th birthday at Mio and it was great! Our waitress (Cynthia) was very knowledgeable, very attentive, and energetic. The food was good and tasty. Gracias...4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth going to more than one timeThe grilled calamari was the best we have ever had. I had the fried red snapper and it was great as well. My wife had the pork stew and was not so pleased with it, nothing wrong with the dish, but not what she expected. The place was not half full since we went early a Friday evening, but still a little loud.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy recent dinner at Mio wasMy recent dinner at Mio was one of the best meals I have had in Washington for a long time. The menu was so interesting and inventive. Food and drinks were both outstanding and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was lovely. And our server was outstanding--she gave us wonderful recommendations and was warm, attentive, and lovely in every way. It was the perfect place to celebrate my friend's birthday. I can't wait to return.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMJust wonderful Puerto RicanJust wonderful Puerto Rican food. Warm and friendly folks. The red snapper was amazing-- as was the Quatro Leches cake! Second time there-we love it.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional Food/Faulty BillingThe food was unexpectedly very good. My guest and I were not only impressed with the food but also with the ambience of the space. Our only complaint was being presented with 3 different checks with different amounts when we inquired about a charge on the bill. The waiter was decent however, he had serious problems with juggling the bills with the coinciding tables.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMtop notch business lunchMio was a great surprise. We have been to Lincoln next door several times and enjoy the food and decor, but always find it just a touch pretentious. Mio looks like it would be like that too, but is just spot on elegant and enjoyable. The food options were plentiful and the skirt steak salad was one of the best meals I've had in months.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food and service.Very good food and service. Lovely decor, large place but didn't get noisy. Only critcism: nearly all the dishes were beef, pork or shellfish. There was a vegetarian entrée and app. If you have dietary restrictions, you might want to check the menu first. Great cocktails.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMCynthia made my hubby andCynthia made my hubby and me want to go back soon. Outstanding3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMe and my brother made reservationsMe and my brother made reservations to this restaurant to try it out and we were pleasantly surprised at the great food and service. We arrived earlier than our reservation time but while waiting they assured we were attended to immediatly with drinks while we waited. I have already recommended this place to quite a few of my friends as a place to go on a Friday night.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMagree with other revieweragree with other reviewer that there was not a kid menu, but they did have a bar menu with small bites appropriate for a young person. We loved the decor, the atmosphere, the energy of the kitchen behind us, the good service, and excellent food. Everyone at our table of seven raved about their meal - their speciality is the mofongo, traditional puerto rican dish. the guava cheesecake was a great way to end the meal. We will definitely come back.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMy out of town guests, whoMy out of town guests, who were new to Mio, raved about the food, the grilled steak, and the lechon asado, and rice and beans.
