Diner Reviews
  • "Delicious food--had rib eye steak. My dining mate thought music little loud, but of lots of great music with enough breaks for chatting between ,"

  • "Everything was great, except for the Salmon. It was over done, but the chicken and the steak was excellent. The shrimp and fried oyster with okra appetizer was over the top good. The music and the atmosphere reminded me of Harlem of the 50's and 60's. I will be back."

  • "Minton's was incredible. It is the prefect spot for a classy, cultured night out on the town. It was amazing to sit where jazz legends like Thelonious Monk have performed. The house band was amazing as well."

  • "The rebirth of this jazz supper club makes for a great evening of jazz, great cocktails and low country cuisine. Beautiful interior and a great atmosphere coupled with excellent service makes Minton's worth the trip to Harlem."

  • "Took my husband to Minton's to celebrate his birthday - it was fabulous - great ambiance - happy to go to a restaurant/ club that encourages their guests to dress up - loved that! - everyone looked elegant - food was delicious - music was great - service was outstanding - pricy but definitely well worth it for a special night out"

  • "Excellent southern food in a beautifully decorated space, with gentle jazz playing made for a relaxing enjoyable evening. There were just two musicians and some in our party would have liked a bit more performance than background."

  • "Anyone looking to have a beautiful classy evening Minton's is the place. The spot is cozy, Comfortable and hip with its Jazzy vibe and sexy ambience, whats not to love. The menu was somewhat limited but everything my group had was delish. I would say Minton's is a must try and for me a definite return."

  • "Mintons - a Jazz Temple Outstanding food, cocktails, service in a historic venue - could not have asked for more What ruined it for me- terribly rude crowd. people who schlep up here must understand the significance of the location and the music Why they would yammer away nonstop while a very competent group of jazz musicians is playing historic tunes is beyond me and Inexcusable. Wish management would request more respectful behavior before each set like they do at downtown jazz clubs"

  • "Great place to experience something different and enjoy the sounds of live Jazz. The food is just OK, the overall experience is good for at least once in a while."

  • "Had a great time at this bustling, musical restaurant. The ambience is energetic, the music was great. The food is okay. I feel that if the dishes were not so complicated the food would be better."

  • "Entrance, Exit, Coat Check, Bar all telescoped in one. The resulting bustle heightened our expectation. Just time for one excellent Margarita and my wife's Jack Daniels at the Bar and we were then promptly seated at our table at the appointed time. We were there for the jazz, with the food as a consolation. The Classic Harlem Jazz Club decor sans smoke further put us in the mood. We were not disappointed. Minton's custom five piece band , hauntingly expressive ,played the old standards in an extraordinarily long session. The food was European portion sized and competently adventurous; the service friendly and timely. We will return!"

  • "Minton's was quite an exquisite experience. From the entrance at the door to the seating, the warmth of the colors and the portraits of the Jazz greats/era, welcomed us to a world of days gone by. The staff was very attentive and the food was a delight. We thoroughly enjoyed the live band as they played some fantastic jazz numbers. We will be happy to return there soon and we're inviting our friends along."

  • "Took my boyfriend to Minton's for his birthday: not only were we given a table near the stage and sat next to each other in the booth, but the band gave a shoutout to my boyfriend and proceeded to play a "Happy Birthday" medley. Bartender/hostess were extremely nice, the waitstaff was excellent. The food was on the whole very good, although there were some uneven elements. The appetizer sampler was fun, with a great mix of flavors and textures. My boyfriend's rib-eye was excellent, and the macaroni and cheese side is NECESSARY. My duck on the other hand was not as well executed, and while I like duck on the rare side, was a bit too chewy. The jazz was great and is the main draw. Overall, this will be a new Harlem staple for us."

  • "Take a trip back in time but keep all the fresh of the present in this Harlem Jazz Club. Can't wait until they have performers come in and join the band, which needed to play longer than they did during the 2-hour dinner show. But very cool..."

  • "I went to Minton's because I read an article in the New York Times, that it should be great. And it was. The service is perfect, the live music was just great and the food so delicious. The musicians were going around to welcome the guests and it was all so friendly. We had a bottle of red wine, starters and great dinner for app. 90 $ each. I think it's okay for a location like this! If I am coming back to New York I will definitely have dinner again and bring more people :)"

  • "I had a wonderful experience dining with a friend and enjoying the jazz sounds of Leon Timbo, Ray Chu and Nat Adeley, Jr. I would recommended Minton's to anyone who is looking for a wonderful sound of jazz with excellent dining. Go you will not regret it!! Love it! I will go back again."

  • "A true gem in Harlem and not only the ongoing live jazz but the service, food and ambiance. We had a fantastic time! Choosing the 4 course chef prepared menu was a real treat. . Excellent Martinis, the appetizer plate was a bundle of joy for your taste buds with 6 extremely cute and delicious creations. The escargot following was the best I've ever had since Paris, honestly ! We upgraded the main course to the rib eye which of course was excellent medium rare and as side dishes we chose the house. Mac and Cheese and roasted Brussels sprouts in a. Caramelized sauce. Oh My! Half of it came home with us so did the deserts we ordered. Unbelievable fulfilling and delicious, everything! The service and attention were excellent! Music, fantastic!"

  • "We went to Minton's before a show at the Apollo so we had a 6 pm reservation. The restaurant was nearly empty when we got there but filled up quickly. After about an hour, some jazz musicians started playing and that was great. The restaurant is very attractive, the service was excellent and the food, terrific. We all ordered the restaurant week fried chicken which was fabulous and ordered some appetizers to try some of the other offerings from the restaurant--all very delicious. Did not stay for dessert. I would go back and would recommend strongly."

  • "The food at Minton's is outstanding! The fried chicken, pork chops, candied yams, buttermilk biscuits and persimmon sorbet were all perfectly prepared and presented and gave me a new appreciation for how succulent southern cooking can be. Add in the relaxed atmosphere, great service and live jazz and you have a perfect dining experience. I didn't want to leave!"

  • "Prix fix menu expensive, left all of us hungry. A question about sides on main course to waiter brought us maitre d Morton. He informed us this is the way the chef has prepared it. Didn't need a lecture on chef's intent. Made for an uncomfortable evening."

  • "I enjoyed the setting, the service, the food...I live in Harlem and I think it is a great asset to the neighborhood. The appetizers are a little pricey; however, quite delicious. This is not the place for a first date...the music is loud and there is a lot of chatter(background noise)."

  • "Restaurant"s ambience was excellent. However, I was not impressed with the band but the lady singing was enjoyable. The food selection was not that great and the restaurant was cold."

  • "The food at Minton's is good but a bit overpriced, which may be because diners are also paying for the exceptional music being played by the superb sextet that specializes in 40ish/50ish jazz, Ellington and the like. The recent renovation has retained the old mural behind the bandstand, but otherwise the place is new and classy. Staff very helpful and welcoming."

  • "Beautiful restaurant. Good but not great food. Horrible service. When you book, you are told that you can only have the table for 2.5 hours. Given the prices, which are high but not unreasonable, I thought that a bit unfair. I shouldn't have worried. The service was so bad, we were there more than three hours from the time we ordered. I couldn't tell if the problem was the kitchen or the servers. Both seemed to be working in slow motion. We went for the music. It was bland, bland, bland. The music is better in my dentist's office. Not one single memorable riff."

  • "My husband and I ventured from Easton PA to Minton's for his birthday celebration dinner. I let the staff know ahead of time that my husband was a huge fan of Miles Davis and the house band was gracious enough to dedicate the entire first set to Miles! Wow! They knocked his socks off! I couldn't help but wonder if the other people dining that evening even understood what was happening on the stage. The house musicians are incredibly talented and have played with some of the top jazz musicians in history. We were in awe of their talents and felt privileged just to have such an intimate experience. I encourage anyone reading this review to take a moment and read their bios."

  • "Great new spot with speakeasy vibe. Came on a Saturday night and the joint was hopping. Music was great, although if you sit near the front it's too loud to have table conversation until the band breaks. The drinks were great! Food was not as good as billed. Not true southern fare and not up to fancier presentIon. The Mac & cheese was our favorite. The pork chop and trout dissappointed. I'd definitely return to enjoy music and drinks at the bar!"

  • "Great food, wonderful ambiance, gorgeous room. A jazz band played almost throughout our 2 hour dinner. Great musicians and music just the right volume to chat, listen, chat and listen, chew and listen, listen, really a pleasure, no yelling required. A lovely, laid back restaurant where you feel pampered and appreciated."

  • "I was very impressed with Minton's and their respect for the roots of the location due to its importance to the jazz scene and bebop. I was also pleased with the liquor selection, service and atmosphere. The food was well prepared but it wouldn't be the reason I went to this establishment. My date had the Minton's Julip and I think they should rename it the Minton's Julip Julip because that thing had enough lasting power to be two drinks. Overall, I would say this is an excellent date spot, because you get dinner and a live show in one. The people are friendly, it's beautiful and you can get lost in the evening. Check this place out and be transported back in time about 50-60 years, to an era when the supper club was changing Americana."
