Diner Reviews
  • "Discovered Minton's which is a landmark. It is beautiful inside and while the prices ate a little high the food is excellent! Must try the pork chop and mac and cheese-out of this world."

  • "I went with a group of 6 for dinner and jazz there was a $20 music fee as soon as we entered and the music was good but to loud for a supper club. We thought they would take our orders, serve us, and then there would be a show while we had dinner. The show was ongoing with a couple of breaks, we could hardly hear the waitress, or each other. The food was ok, not great, the pork and scallop entres were sent back because they were undercooked, the crispy trout was not crispy. We expected upscale soul food but the choices really weren't reminiscent of soul food in my opinion. Overall. The idea is nice but the execution could be better particularly at the price point."

  • "A group went to Minton's to celebrate a birthday event.....while the food was fine, it took too long to arrive at our table once we ordered it.....also our waiter was personable, but he was not attentive enough to the needs of the patrons ( ie, not coming over to ask if everything was ok, not refreshing the water glasses quickly -- - all of this considering Minton's was not croweded at this time)"

  • "What an awesome meal that we all had...from the scallops to the pork chop everything was to die for. And go ahead and order sparkling wine. The jazz singer and the band were the icing on the cake."

  • "Wonderful classic jazz sound matched by a soulful cuisine. A little pricy but worth it."

  • "Mintons is a wonderful place where beautiful food and lovely music meet. Loved that the food was full of flavors but somehow still incredibly light, which was very helpful since we dined late. We started with the Biscuit Plate which was incredibly tasty, flaky and everything else you would want a fine biscuit to be. Followed up with the creamiest yet lightest Macaroni and Cheese ever, which brought me to the Lobster Stuffed with Crabmeat and a side of Pimento grits. I wasn't a fan of the grits, more of an acquired taste but my dinner dates Green bean Provençal was OUTSTANDING. All this with a backdrop of some superb Jazz. Must return."

  • "The service was great and the atmosphere as expected...cozy and jazzy. Most of the dishes were excellent with the exception of the buttermilk fried chicken which needed more seasoning."

  • "Girlfriends & I went for restaurant week. The pre-fix menu was ok. Minton's is a sexy hidden gem. It definitely takes you back to the Jazz era. It's a romantic place. The serves was good. the drinks were average. It's a date night, live jazz, upscale restaurant in Harlem. A little pricey. I would absolutely go back."

  • "Service outstanding! Waiter came to the table, several times throughout the evening to ask if we needed anything. Food very good. Ambiance and night life great."

  • "Staff needs training on basic elements of table service like clearing appetizer plates before serving the main course, placing cutlery on the table correctly and refilling water glasses. The food and music the night I was there was good, not great. The atmosphere was lovely. The prices are quite high."

  • "Overall, the food was alright but it looked better than it tasted. I just found that the shrimp and chicken could have used a bit more flavor although the vegetables were very flavorful. The waiter also forgot a few items that we asked for. I was there to hear the music group but the noise level at the bar was so loud that we couldn't hear the group the way we liked."

  • "The Buttermilk fry chicken and the biscuit with the kane syrup were to die for it remind me of my grandma fry chicken with the biscuit."

  • "My approach to dinner was to try seafood for the 1st and 2nd course then straight to a meat dish for the 3rd course. I had the half shelled oysters with cucumber and watermelon mignonette for starters which i really enjoy but i prefer oyster with some chili flavor. The Sherry she crab soup was amazing and almost stole the show for me i loved the skillet cornbread as a hint to the southern style cooking theme the restaurant has going. The New York steak is hands down one of the top ten steaks i have ever had served with wild mushrooms and truffled glace de viande. Dessert was heavenly and the flower pinot noir ordered was nothing short of a heavenly. Great for dinner with friends and made even more enjoyable by the quality live jazz music."

  • "From the bus buy to the general manger, the staff was professional, courteous and personable. We had a reservation, but due to heavy traffic and size of place we had to wait a little longer before we were sitted. However, the hostess repeatedly checked on the status of our table and kept us posted. The general mananger came over and apologized for delay and had the bartender serve us a complimentary glass of rose wine (DELICIOUS!) while we waited. Once we were sitted, the waiter came over to greet and serve us. The lighting was perfect, the homestyle biscuits were delicious, and the live jazz band complete with the sassy soultry female singer was the cherry on top."

  • "Romantic dinner an intimate dining experience. With jazz as the back drop and the low level lighting you can't help but feel this is a romantic dining experience. The food was delicious. We opted for a bottle of a reasonable white wine to accompany our meal (Trout entree and the Fried Chicken entree). We will dine again."

  • "My wife and I went for our anniversary. This a place to go to have a drink and enjoy live jazz. The food selection is very limited. I began with a Gem salad, which was 3 pieces of Romaine lettuce and a few croutons. Buttermilk chicken for the entree was unexciting. My wife chose trout and was not impressed. Service was adequate. On the plus side the quartet was great and the mixed drinks were very good. This is a place to have drinks and enjoy the music. The food is a disappointment."

  • "Loved the food, the ambience, the great band. Great waiter. Fun way to break out of the box of old favorites. Easy cab ride and they're happy to call you a cab when you leave."

  • "I highly recommend Minton's. You'll enjoy the food. The staff is pleasant and very attentive. The low lighting gives the place a relaxing and even romantic ambiance. There's usually a band which played beautifully on the night I went. Unfortunately there isn't much open floor space so dancing seems to be out of the picture."

  • "Everthing was first class. I just did not know I would be charge for the music. Next Restaurant Week put extra charge for music or make it clear on the advertisment. It was a great time."

  • "Went here for a friend's birthday. As we entered we were greeted by the GM to whom I whispered it was my friend's birthday. After being seated by the nicest hostess I've had in a very long time, we where brought a glass of Sparkling wine. The GM came to check on us and asked if it was ok that he sent over the wine. We informed him that one of us did not drink. The wine was quickly removed and a "mocktail" brought in its place. The wait staff were very attentive, the service was great and went with the flow of you enjoying the band. The food was good, each course had a little surprising twist. Oysters and shrimp were great, chicken decent and dessert good. Yes, a candle but no loud song with dessert!"

  • "When you walk up to the restaurant, you have know idea how spacious and accommodating it is. The ambience was perfect for 2 on a Sunday night. Our waiter was very descriptive with the menu choices. Delicious entrees were directly followed by main courses to our delight. Dinner was enjoyed as a jazz duet made the evening nostalgic. I have and will recommend this little gem to anyone looking for an authentic Harlem experience."

  • "I took my sister to Mintons for her birthday. We loved it from the moment we walked in. Service, food decor and music was excellent. We had a early Sunday dinner and had a great time, even without all of the people. Looking forward to going back during the times when it is lively. All in all great place."

  • "This is an intimate resturant with a beautiful ambiance with live jazz...it was exactly what I was looking for. It's expensive but go for a special occasion with a special person and it's well worth it."

  • "You come here for the music. Great muscians playing jazz. The food choices are very limited ( and pricey- but you are paying for the music too) but everything we had was delicious. We will definitely be back."

  • "Mintons is a great find. The buttermilk fried chicken was amazing. Seasoned and fried to perfection . To too it off I asked for hit sauce and to my delight I was served "Franks hit sauce" in stead of "Tabasco ". The music was wonderful and played at a level that allowed you to be able to enjoy it and have a conversation without yelling. Minton's now on my list if restaurants to suggest when my friends are seeking a place to have dinner on a special night or just an evening for some good good."

  • "Had dinner here this week and saw Brain Lynch perform. Not a great spot to catch up, but wonderful for great, talented music and tasty food. Took advantage of the restaurant week menu. Shrimp, trout, buttermilk fried chicken...all delicious and gorgeous! Service was lacking. Not sure if server was simply overwhelmed or under experienced. Long wait between each courses and couldn't find him to take the check...but some folks like that. Other than that, it was a magical night! Love it!"

  • "The food was terrific and the music was fun to listen to (very loud though, hard to have a conversation). Also, we were not aware of the $20 per person charge for the music."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner very much. The group performing was terrific and the small size of the club allows good viewing for everyone. The food was good - we all had the trout entrée which was well prepared but a larger portion of accompaniments would have been appreciated. The shrimp appetizer was delicious and came with a nicely-spiced sauce. We were disappointed that no bread came with the meal; this is a much needed addition and should be available, at least upon request. Our great disappointment was that the sound engineer paced non-stop in front of the stage and patrons. It was quite distracting and annoying, let alone offensive to the band members. It continued for some time even after we complained."

  • "Such a wonderful surprise to walk into this classy, elegant restaurant. Greeted professionally and the service was top notch. THE FOOD - So delicious!! My wife had the lobster with grits, usually its shrimp, but they had some from the days brunch and offered her the opportunity to substitute. I had the smothered pork chop with sauteed collard greens, all perfectly cooked. Already planning our trip back."

  • "I have been wanting to go to Minton's since it opened. Finally went to celebrate my and my friend's birthdays. It felt like the old supper clubs of the past. The ambiance was welcoming and beautiful. The four of us enjoyed the evening very much. The service was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the food and explaining how it was prepared. The house jazz ensemble was really, really good. We loved listening to the musicians while we enjoyed our dinner and afterwards. We are looking forward to returning."
