Diner Reviews
  • "When you walk up to the restaurant, you have know idea how spacious and accommodating it is. The ambience was perfect for 2 on a Sunday night. Our waiter was very descriptive with the menu choices. Delicious entrees were directly followed by main courses to our delight. Dinner was enjoyed as a jazz duet made the evening nostalgic. I have and will recommend this little gem to anyone looking for an authentic Harlem experience."

  • "This is an intimate resturant with a beautiful ambiance with live jazz...it was exactly what I was looking for. It's expensive but go for a special occasion with a special person and it's well worth it."

  • "Mintons is a great find. The buttermilk fried chicken was amazing. Seasoned and fried to perfection . To too it off I asked for hit sauce and to my delight I was served "Franks hit sauce" in stead of "Tabasco ". The music was wonderful and played at a level that allowed you to be able to enjoy it and have a conversation without yelling. Minton's now on my list if restaurants to suggest when my friends are seeking a place to have dinner on a special night or just an evening for some good good."

  • "A beautiful place that takes you to a rhythmical place with excellent food! This is a one of a kind place that holds so much historical and cultural wonder. A true experience that all must enjoy!"

  • "Had dinner here this week and saw Brain Lynch perform. Not a great spot to catch up, but wonderful for great, talented music and tasty food. Took advantage of the restaurant week menu. Shrimp, trout, buttermilk fried chicken...all delicious and gorgeous! Service was lacking. Not sure if server was simply overwhelmed or under experienced. Long wait between each courses and couldn't find him to take the check...but some folks like that. Other than that, it was a magical night! Love it!"

  • "The food was terrific and the music was fun to listen to (very loud though, hard to have a conversation). Also, we were not aware of the $20 per person charge for the music."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner very much. The group performing was terrific and the small size of the club allows good viewing for everyone. The food was good - we all had the trout entrée which was well prepared but a larger portion of accompaniments would have been appreciated. The shrimp appetizer was delicious and came with a nicely-spiced sauce. We were disappointed that no bread came with the meal; this is a much needed addition and should be available, at least upon request. Our great disappointment was that the sound engineer paced non-stop in front of the stage and patrons. It was quite distracting and annoying, let alone offensive to the band members. It continued for some time even after we complained."

  • "Such a wonderful surprise to walk into this classy, elegant restaurant. Greeted professionally and the service was top notch. THE FOOD - So delicious!! My wife had the lobster with grits, usually its shrimp, but they had some from the days brunch and offered her the opportunity to substitute. I had the smothered pork chop with sauteed collard greens, all perfectly cooked. Already planning our trip back."

  • "I have been wanting to go to Minton's since it opened. Finally went to celebrate my and my friend's birthdays. It felt like the old supper clubs of the past. The ambiance was welcoming and beautiful. The four of us enjoyed the evening very much. The service was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the food and explaining how it was prepared. The house jazz ensemble was really, really good. We loved listening to the musicians while we enjoyed our dinner and afterwards. We are looking forward to returning."

  • "We went to Mintons with another couple and the 4 of us were really in for a treat. Started with stellar cocktails. The appetizers were unique twists on southern favorites and were great for sharing. We each got different entrees - meat, pork, fish and shrimp. Again more sharing. Desserts were a sweet ending with the chocolate cake and lemon tart. The service was attentive, knowledgeable and perfectly timed. And, the house band! I could have sat there for hours longer and enjoyed more music from the jazz band - such a treat to have live music while dining. I would recommend to anyone looking for a unique night out with great food and ambiance."

  • "Have added this restaurant/jazz club to our favorites in NYC. Loved the updated atmosphere yet retaining the jazz club ambience. The cocktail listings were outstanding, wine very good and the food delicious with southern influences. The jazz group was delightful!"

  • "A friend and I were visiting NYC and wanted a fun Friday night out. Well worth the trip from mid-town! The staff was very friendly and attentive, the music was good and the other patrons were a lot of fun. I would definitely describe the seating as 'intimate'. We were very close to our dining neighbors which actually turned out well because we struck up a very fun conversation with two barristers from Australia. I am on a (gulp) bikini-prep diet and was a little worried the food would require an extra million hours on the treadmill. No worries, though! Selections were right-sized and healthier options of some good standards. Not my grandma's gravy smothered dinners, but good grown-up choices that did not disappoint."

  • "My wife and I celebrated a very romantic evening at Minton's on June 27, 2014. The house band was excellent, the service was truly outstanding, and the food delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant/club harkens back to a time when gentlemen "dressed" for the evening with the goal of impressing their elegant dates. There, amid the Jazz legends, we spent an evening that honored a bygone era while reliving the highlights of the last 27 years of our time together."

  • "Good food. Highly overpriced . There was no availability showing on Opentable the restaurant was practically empty. There was one vegetarian in our group and there wasn't even one vegetarian entree option !!"

  • "Minions was one of the best overall restaurants we have been to in a long time. We had a drink at the bar first, where we were taken care of by a friendly and interesting bar tender. At dinner, the music was fantastic! Jazz that was just the perfect background music. Dinner was amazing! The fried green tomatoes were outrageous! During dessert we were greeted so warmly by the chef and restauranteur Alexander Smalls. What a talented and sweet man! We can't wait to go back!"

  • "The live jazz band was amazing. Something very reminiscent, paying homage to the culture and the original purpose of Minton's supper club. It was a unique experience that was enjoyable and magical. I would definitely return again in the near future. "

  • "We got to Mintons right on time for our res. They weren't ready for us so we had a drink in the lounge. It's a great looking spot & the music was outstanding. But we waited over 10 min for our drinks & about half an hour for our table. The mgr was so pleasant & gave us our cocktails on the house since we waited so long. A couple came in after us and were seated before us (they knew the owner so they were basically given our table). The service at the table was also slow. We waited so long for 2 glasses of wine that the server ended up comp'ing the wine as well. They were good at correcting what went wrong with comps which made us feel better about waiting so long. Food was good but you go there for music & atmosphere which are outstanding. "

  • "A place I will definitely refer to friends. The service, ambiance, food, music were exceptional. I was concerned that on a Saturday evening you didn't have standing room only. What's your advertisement ? I haven't received any material on line about your establishment. I want you to be here for a long time, like forever. Oh, about the noise level, that was one of the things we talked about. It was like being in my living room conversation was easy, you didn't have to strain to hear each other. The acoustics, GREAT..."

  • "Heard about Minton's during a news report about the owner who the NBA appointed to watch over the LA Clippers. Went on line found about about the Club and had to go. Went there with a friend on a Friday night, had a great table , great food, and the place is an old school gem. Make sure you go. It's worth the ride."

  • "Celebrated 15 years with my husband at Minton's the night before last. It was wonderful! The food was exquisite and the house band elevated the entire experience. Felt like we went back in time when going out to dinner was an event - at the same time food and tone were contemporary. Would definitely go back!"

    Dined on 5/22/2014
  • "Nice atmosphere, good staff, and much better food than you'll find at any of the other jazz venues in the city. Sure the band could be a bit more lively as I've read in other reviews, but they're still good. For a good overall experience - food, atmosphere, drinks, & music - this is from my perspective your best bet. If your looking to have your mind blown by the house band on stage, it is not. It'd be nice if they switch things up one night on a week but, they've just openned. I'm sure they have some stops they'll pull out in the future."

  • "I went to Minton's recently on a Wednesday evening in order to experience the classic Minton's and to see a good show and have dinner. The renovated space was lovely, and the show was nice but the food and service was disappointing. We were a party of 4 and while we don't mind paying for eclectic food done well, with a bill and tip over $500, we left shaking our heads. The food was mostly bland and not well seasoned, certainly overambitious at even half the price. The experience was made worse by our server who was curt and quick and even rude at times. If we return to Minton's at all, we'd likely sit at the bar and listen to the show while sipping club soda. "

  • "We went with a group of 6 who hadn't seen each other in awhile, which I should have thought of before I booked a reservation at a jazz club, so I would suggest going with people who you don't need to catch up with, as the star of this place is the live jazz. The food was just okay and very pricey -- I justified it by the fact that we were getting a show as well. I would suggest coming here for cocktails (which were great) and taking in the show from the bar, then heading over to The Cecil for dinner."

  • "Our night at Minton's was a truly special experience. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and my birthday, and it was truly worthy of such celebrations. The house quintet is outstanding. The food is fabulous and the service was exceptional. It is a lovely place that pays appropriate homage to the jazz greats of the past. The crowd was diverse, in age and ethnicity, and very knowledgable and respectful of the music. We will definitely go back and recommend it highly! "

  • "I took my fiancé to NYC for a Mother's Day treat. A friend recommended we try Minton's. The food, music, and service were excellent. We live in Los Angeles and it would be great to have a place like Minton's. We enjoyed the creative dishes on the menu and the prices were by LA standards very reasonable. The atmosphere was mature an intimate. We will definitely dine at Minton's the next time we visit New York. "

  • "Dining at Minton's was a highlight of our recent New York City visit. The ambience, the service, the music by the house band, were all outstanding. We had the tasting menu with paired wine tasting, which provided an outstanding dining experience. The placement of the tables and the evident enjoyment by the other diners made interaction with our neighboring guests part of the pleasurable experience. We hope Minton's has a long life. We look forward to visiting it again on a future New York City vacation."
