A word from Minetta Tavern
Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Consistently a great meal and great scene. The one thing I will say is that you shouldn't go there if you are looking for something light... It's a heavy (delicious) meal.

This restaurant was recommended to is by a friend for our visit to NYC. The food was delicious, especially the Steak. The service was really friendly and knowledgeable. Are only complaint would be that when it became clear we were there for a long time (potentially longer than they had Planned) the service suddenly became not so friendly, although it was in no way rude. It was just a shame the rapport stopped, they could have just asked us to move to the bar!

Tables are too close together. Noise level is too high. Wine is overpriced. So why visit...the food and the service. The "meat butter" (baked bone marrow) is incredible on that crunchy toast. The Blue Label Burger is to die for....best burger we've ever had. The pork chop special was perfectly done...just a bit pink with the right amount of fat and seasoning. Our waiter was efficient, informative and very personable. We'd go back in an instant and be tempted with a many other gems on the menu...though I'd order that burger again. Get a glass or wine or better yet, get a few beers. Wonderful spot!

This was one of the culinary peaks of my life. Every part of this meal from start to finish was wonderful. The ox tail and foie gras terrine that I ordered as an appetizer was an outstanding beginning. I ordered the Black Label Burger which was the single best pure burger I've ever eaten. The thick, steak-like burger was paired with a wonderful order of fries and an interesting pickle which I also enjoyed. I also ordered the rum and mousse dessert which was also exceptional. In addition, the server was attentive and gave a nearby patron a glass of club soda to clear out a stain he had received before getting to the restaurant! All in all, a great experience.

I've dined here some 5 times over the past 5 years and it has never disappointed. It not a quiet, romantic place. Tables are close, it's a bit noisy but the food, drinks and service offset this. The black label burger can't be missed... The steaks are also outstanding. Drinks are well poured, attentive service and the wine list is not huge but has good choices. This place is old school but with so many trendy, hipster places in NYC, I'm glad this place is around!

From the outside Minetta Tavern doesn't even look open. However once you are through the door you find yourself in a beautiful dining room with a lovely old-fashioned wooden bar. I opted for a starter of Bone Marrow and the hubby ordered oxtail and Foie Gras Terrine. Mine was by far the better choice and luckily it was so big I could share some of it with him. We both went for the Black Label Burgers and they were served up with a small mountain of french fries. for a full review and photos visit http://www.anexpatwife.com/the-restaurant-blog

The restaurant is indeed charming and has a cozy neighborhood feel. Although the restaurant is notable for steak lovers, the other food offerings (kale salad, swordfish) had very fresh ingredients and succinct preparations. The table service was aloof and not forthcoming with details about the dishes or even welcoming unlike the rest of the staff, merely just taking orders. The restaurant gets very crowded and loud, if you are looking to have an intent conversation or meeting, this should be a factor to consider.

Great lunch place. The burgers are fabulous...the meat is high quality, the bun doesn't overwhelm the meat, and the sauteed onions add even more great taste. I gave this an outstanding rating, not because it's the best restaurant in NYC, but because it does exactly what it should do for the kind of place it is. We'll be back.

We love Minetta Tavern and are finally entering a review. We came here to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary and were greeted very warmly. Service was attentive, friendly, and everyone made our experience great! The food is delicious. We had the specials and half a dozen oysters to start - perfecto! For our entrees, I had the braised pork shank and I will definitely get it again. Hubby loved the veal porterhouse chop. Cheers to the chefs! Excellent - thank you!!

The Black Label burger was outstanding. Even with all the hype, it was able to impress. Although, $27 for a burger and fries, even of this quality, is not going to bring me back anytime soon. The tables are way too close together, literally inches apart. It's a nice place to visit but I don't want to live there.

Solid french food, but the tables are very close together. If I were to go again, I would go with 4 people so that we'd get our own standalone table rather than be smushed up against another conversation. Not a great first date place, and very name-drop heavy.

The first thing that strikes us about this venue is that from the outside it looks closed. However once you open that dark front door and enter through the heavy velvet curtains you are confronted with a vibrant dining scene of hustle bustle and energy. This Location is not for Romantic dining however the food is great quality of the service is fast and entertaining and the atmosphere is buzzing. I recommend this location for those reasons alone. Our waiter Henry was an absolute find funny and helpful and he took us through the menu making recommendations which we are glad we stuck with not the cheapest in New York and certainly not the most expensive you will not regret visiting the Minetta Tavern.

Everything about this place is perfect. It's feels like it's been lifted from 1920's Paris and dropped in Manhattan - and yet it still manages to feel incredibly modern at the same time. The atmosphere on a Sat was buzzing, friendly and fun, the service was fantastic. We loved the food (burgers and incredible chips) and the wine was delicious. Wish I lived in NYC so I could come back again and again.

We arrived on time for our 5:30 reservation. The tall, long-haired hostess (I did not get her name.) looked right through my husband and I as if we were not there. She greeted regulars enthusiastically, but barely acknowledged our presence. When we pay $300 for dinner (wine and tip,) we expect to be greeted pleasantly. My husband and I left the Minetta Tavern and dined at Keen's Steakhouse instead. There the host was inviting and we had a very enjoyable evening.

The least room between tables ever. Burger deserves its excellent reputation - we shared its as an app - and the cote de boef was fabulous. Splurged on a superb bottle of chateau neuf de pape. Most everything else was a bit better than adequate (veggies, appetizers). Potatoes Anna were inedible: cooked hours earlier and reheated to dehydration. Didn't try dessert, which seemed both dull and all chocolate.

This is now the second time we've come for my husband's birthday and enjoyed it just as much as the first. This time around I'm 8 months pregnant and was hesitant to order the black label burger, but it was still delicious cooked well done! My girlfriend and I just had a small pizza from Grimaldi's 2 hrs prior to arriving at Minetta Tavern. Poor planning, yes, but that wasn't going stop me from experiencing one of New York's finest. I was informed to have a reservation which I had at 5:30 PM. We were pretty full, but since we were from San Francisco, we had ordered the foie gras (restaurants can't "sell" foie gras) as well as one burger to share. We ate half of the foie gras and skipped the bread. Every inch of space had to be saved for the delectable burger. When it came, I was not disappointed. It looked gorgeous. All 1 2/3 inches of height. It did not need any condiments. Just the bun to hold the subtle flavors of scotch. It was pure bliss and a must while in NYC.

-Forget getting a reservation after 6 or before 10 unless you either are somebody or know somebody -Bar itself: very cool and the drinks are good. -Our reservation was for 6 - they were rushing us at 5:45 so the message was, "eat and get out" -We were seated in the bar. This is where people are seated that they don't care about ever returning; the back room, apparently is for regulars and/or celebs/cool people. -Dress code ranged from suits to t-shirts. -Bone marrow: impressive looking but not much there. Between 3 bones, maybe a tablespoon of marrow. Came with lots of bread. -black label burger: no way it could live up to the hype. That said, it was a good burger but watch for gristle/bone chips! -Service: prompt and professional

We had booked a table at this restaurant about 3 weeks earlier before we got to the US. Everything went very smoothly with the ordering and arrival of the meals and the drinks, and we were lucky enough to have a booth seat which meant we could hear each other above the clamour. Service was very good - very attentively looked after by each of the hovering staff. The only dull spots in the night was the dryness of the main chicken dish my son received, and the burger which was very tasty but probably not the best option for such a classy venue, when a steak was probably a better choice. Well below par for the price paid. But we will go back.

What a wonderful place. My husband had read a review by Tom Parker-Bowles about this place and really wanted to go. It was quite difficult to get a table but well worth the wait. The service was excellent, the waiter described each dish on the specials menu and was very attentive. The wine was a little too expensive so we only had a glass but the food was delicious. We really didnt need a dessert but opted for the cholocate mousse cake which was very rich but wonderful. The whole experience was wonderful. Would definitely recommend a visit
