A word from Minetta Tavern
Minetta Tavern was opened in Greenwich Village in 1937. The Tavern was named after the Minetta Brook, which ran southwest from 23rd Street to the Hudson River.

Over the course of its long history, the Tavern was frequented by various layabouts and hangers-on including Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, Eugene O'Neill, E. E. Cummings, Dylan Thomas, and Joe Gould, as well as by various writers, poets, and pugilists.

Since its renovation, Minetta Tavern has best been described as "Parisian steakhouse meets classic New York City tavern."

We hope — and believe — that's a somewhat accurate description of the place.

Minetta's Tavern is an old main-stay for my fiance and her family, and has quickly become a favorite of mine as well. Their burgers are the absolute best in the city, the rest of the menu is excellent, and the service is top notch. The atmosphere is old style tavern/restaurant and the place is always packed. If you've never visited Minetta's while you've been in New York City, I highly recommend you do. You won't regret it.

This was our first visit to Minetta for brucnh, though we have been a few times for dinner. Finally got to try the legendary black label burger, and it was everything it's cracked up to be; juicy, complex, rich and cooked to absolute medium rare perfection. It sets the gold standard for burgers (both in taste and price) and is worth it for a special treat. The french dip and french fries were also spot on, Now that we've experienced a quieter, more relaxed Minetta during brunch hours, we plan to return the next time we have a few extra pennies to spend.

A friend and I had lunch at Minetta Tavern before heading home to the west coast. It was our last meal before leaving. This was my third time at Minetta Tavern. The food and service were as good as I remembered from several years ago. I had steak and fries and my friend had trout. Both dishes were prepared well and were very tasty.

We remembered Minetta Tavern as a friendly Italian restaurant that we had frequented when living in the Village. In its new identity as a French bistro, it has retained the warm and historic character of the old place and combined it with an excellent seasonal French menu. The hamburger with pommes frites looked tempting and is a star at the place, but we opted for the rabbit, which was excellent and the pefectly done roast chicken. The brandade tasted like it did in the south of France. Our server was considerate of our conversation; so many restaurants now seem to encourage aggressive inquiries on the part of wait staff as to the diner's satisfaction. The dessert menu seemed a bit limited, but the pots au creme were very enjoyable. The bartender knows how to make a perfect boulevardier. In all, it was a great place to take my wife the day before her colonoscopy prep!

We went to Minetta Tavern recently for my birthday. We were a party of four and a baby. Three of us ordered the Black Label (because you have to order the best thing on the menu). It was tasty and filling but not so filling that you feel terrible afterwards. We also ordered two orders of the thick cut bacon which were yummy especially with the spicy mustard they are served with. Overall, a great experience. Great restaurant in a great neighborhood.

They have good food and really nice drinks. The level of noise is quite energetic. My only issue with Minetta Tavern was that they have one those chefs that wants to do things in a certain way (e.g., I don't like to eat rare meat, but even if you order a well done burger, they will give you rare because that is the way "it's supposed to be"). I recommend to emphasize the request to the waiter so you don't end up paying 30 dollars for a meat that you don't want to eat.

We have been here before and have had wonderful times. For some reason this was not one of them. The burgers were poor, very poor. In their defense they did not charge us for the burgers. We were there for my 59th birthday and it was very disappointing.

This was truly a fantastic place for lunch / brunch. The servers are so very helpful. The guests are all visibly very happy to be there which makes things ever more enjoyable. From the time we arrived until we left we truly felt welcome. I would certainly go back and tell my friends to go as well. We had such a hard time deciding what to order but our server helped us. EVERYTHING that came out of the kitchen looked superb which was why we had a hard time. Try it!

I had been looking forward to my Minetta experience for a while, and couldn't wait to get my hands on the famous 'Black Label Burger'. The burger was full of flavour and expertly cooked, it more than lived up to the hype. Unfortunately that is where it stops. The service that we received on entering the crowded bar was borderline rude, despite having a reservation we were made to wait for 20 mins prior to getting our table and were made to feel like an inconvenience by every member of staff that we encountered - is it part of their brief. Having dined at 10+ Michelin Star restaurants, this is by far the most lacklustre experience of the lot. I had to apologise to my guests for the experience - not ideal.

Minetta is great. A lot has been written about the black label burger and it's all true - it's one of the best burgers I've ever had. Mintetta Tavern looks like it has been in the neighborhood for over 100 years. The walls are filled with caricatures of people no one remembers but must have been famous at one time or another. There are beautiful hand-painted murals on the walls. The menu, while not extensive or complex, is uniformly excellent pub food. My roast chicken was superb--almost as delicious as Rotisserie Georgette. My companion's monk fish was buttery, and beautifully presented. I highly recommend this restaurant especially if you are into historic NY establishments.

My husband and I had brunch here October 2014. We were both expecting very special brunch and burger. He ordered their famous $28 burger which he said was nothing special and no better than an $18 burger he had at 5 Napkin Burger. I got an Omelette Du Jour which was boring and tasteless. We tried this place for brunch before committing to dinner with my parents (they are serious foodies). We will never go back there.

This restaurant was recommended to is by a friend for our visit to NYC. The food was delicious, especially the Steak. The service was really friendly and knowledgeable. Are only complaint would be that when it became clear we were there for a long time (potentially longer than they had Planned) the service suddenly became not so friendly, although it was in no way rude. It was just a shame the rapport stopped, they could have just asked us to move to the bar!

Tables are too close together. Noise level is too high. Wine is overpriced. So why visit...the food and the service. The "meat butter" (baked bone marrow) is incredible on that crunchy toast. The Blue Label Burger is to die for....best burger we've ever had. The pork chop special was perfectly done...just a bit pink with the right amount of fat and seasoning. Our waiter was efficient, informative and very personable. We'd go back in an instant and be tempted with a many other gems on the menu...though I'd order that burger again. Get a glass or wine or better yet, get a few beers. Wonderful spot!

This was one of the culinary peaks of my life. Every part of this meal from start to finish was wonderful. The ox tail and foie gras terrine that I ordered as an appetizer was an outstanding beginning. I ordered the Black Label Burger which was the single best pure burger I've ever eaten. The thick, steak-like burger was paired with a wonderful order of fries and an interesting pickle which I also enjoyed. I also ordered the rum and mousse dessert which was also exceptional. In addition, the server was attentive and gave a nearby patron a glass of club soda to clear out a stain he had received before getting to the restaurant! All in all, a great experience.
