A word from Minami Restaurant
Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Yaletown, Minami Restaurant delivers one of the most unique and innovative dining experiences to Vancouver. Minami follows the pioneering footsteps of sister restaurant, Miku for introducing the Aburi style or flame seared technique to Vancouver’s thriving sushi scene in 2008. Aburi sushi requires no soy sauce or wasabi, as the chefs create specialty sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to complement the flavor properties of each variety of fish.

From the kitchen, seasonal and regional ingredients are integrated into dishes to reflect the diversity of responsible food choices. Traditionally trained Japanese chefs are inspired by global flavors and cutting edge techniques to create a new style of cuisine. The culinary approach evokes passion and beauty, as each dish is artfully plated on custom-designed Arita Yaki plate ware, handpicked by owner, Seigo Nakamura.

This place is unreal. If you come here looking for your average sushi joint, you're missing the point. This place is reinventing traditional sushi. You don't have soya sauce and wasabi at your table. You eat the food the way it is given and trust me, it is amazing. Every sushi I've had here is paired with its own sauce and sometimes topping. It's absolutely delicious. Beer, wine and sake list is great. Be sure to try the calamari, a sneaky good surprise on this menu. Be sure to try any sushi oshi. Enjoy!

The food is more like a fusion between Japanese and Western cuisine. The tuna tataki was very disappointing as the fish was tough and had no flavour at all. Raw kusshi oysters were good, different from traditional ones you get elsewhere. The foie gras gyoza was interesting. The Aburi sushi was really good, but the sushi would fall apart as soon as you pick it up with your chopsticks. The sable fish was okay but overpriced. The baby bak choy was overcooked. Whatever you order, don't get the Wagyu beef cho-soba. It's basically strips of flavourless beef on Bolognese with Japanese style spaghetti. Overall service was excellent. I would recommend trying this place at least once, but I much prefer Miku.

We went to this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday while visiting Vancouver. It did not disappoint. Everything was delicious and it was one of the best meals I've had out in a long time. The service was impecable and very friendly. We really enjoyed the evening however, this is not a good place to go if you are looking for a romantic and intimate setting. Overall, this is a great restaurant and I highly recimmend it.

I go to Minami a lot. Usually once a week. Unfortunately, it has decided to shrink it's portions and reduce the flavour if it's dishes. Perhaps because it was because of the taste of yaletown. However I ordered off the usual menu. It was disappointing since Minami is a staple for my yaletown dining.

We went to Minami to celebrate a friends birthday. The food is good but not outstanding and very pricey compared to other Japanese restaurants in town. The server was friendly but somewhat forgetful, but always apologetic for her errors. We got the feeling the high price was to pay for the location and the trendy furnishings, as it felt more like a night club than a restaurant.

The experience at Minami was disastrous. There was some weird combination of sushi (Chinese BBQ pork on rice) and funny tasting fruit salad (something wrong with the dressing). Probably, the chef was trying to be creative but certain things don’t go together in the kitchen. My friend calls our experience “epic failure”. We just quickly stuffed the food down and left the restaurant as the host reminded us that she needed her table back by 730pm on the phone as well as upon arrival. The only thing that’s good was the gyoza and tiramisu. Even though this is a sister company of Miku, it’s miles apart from Miku.

of course the salmon oshi is amazing as is most of the food. but the place is REALLY LOUD. they need to install some curtains or something. Found this restaurant online. I wanted to treat my girlfriend to a nice dinner as sort of an early birthday present/late anniversary present. We came over from Victoria and came here before a concert at the Vogue. I was unsure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised as the restaurant was very nice it felt casual, yet elegant a perfect place to take your date. I ordered the ebi fritters which was quite a large serving for an appetizer and definitely surpassed expectations. The main course I had the Kaisen Soba Peperoncino which was excellent. My gf had a salad which wasn't on the menu, avocado nigiri, and brussel sprout chips which she enjoyed. The drinks were great overall it was a great experience!

Overpriced for what it is. The menu has no coherence. Some dishes sounded great in concept but failed in execution. I would only go back for the desserts. I enjoyed the space very much and the noise level was bearable which is rare on the Vancouver restaurant scene these days. I would not go back.

GORGEOUS patio with amazing ambience. Impeccable, creative modern style Japanese using the highest quality, freshest ingredients. Even the rice is flawless and has an addictive texture and subtle sweetness. Apparently the owners' family spent 50 years cultivating their own rice grains! Charming, genuinely warm service staff.

First time at minami and it was a fantastic experience. Food was a adventure of flavour - brussel sprouts and wild mushroom, nicely done. the sable fish was very moist, the eggplant with miso - very good. oshi salmon sushi - the piece of jalapeno did it. scallop carpaccio was a fantastic start. last but not least - my drink, and i dont drink alcohol - mango ginger was really nice. jasmine ice cream is a must try - so fragrant. this is definitely my new favorite spot - many items on the menu, and the desserts, i still want to try.

Waited a long time for server to come to our table, even though the restaurant did not seem very busy. Then we waited FOREVER for our cocktails. Waiter apologized for the bar backup, but I still ended up having my cocktail with dinner, which did not go well together. Waiter poo-pooed our choices in a way that was a bit condescending, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt and enjoyed our dinner.

Left still hungry for 45 dollars per person. The size of the nigiri sushi wasn't generous, and the fish fell off each piece easily (indicating it wasn't very well constructed). Quality of the fish was great, and the spot prawns were super fresh but the whole experience didn't really feel very authentic Japanese. If you are looking for a trendy spot with sky high markup to impress your clients this might be good but for an anniversary dinner out we loved the Farmer's Apprentice at the same price 20x more than this. Wouldn't recommend in a city full of amazing sushi for less cost.
