Millwright'sWelcome back!So glad to see this idyllic site once again be in use & be used for such a yummy purpose. Lovely locale to celebrate
Mother's Day. Looking forward to coming back in the fall to have a drink down in the tavern in front of the fireplace. Cheers!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for Mothers Day Brunch. We went for Mothers Day Brunch. Our first time at Millwrights, although we'd enjoyed Chef Anderson's meals at Pip's at the Copper Beach Inn several times. He does elegant food in a casual, but beautiful atmosphere extremely well. Food and ambiance were fantastic!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMothers Day HitWe enjoyed the Prix Fixe Mothers Day brunch and everyone was satisfied. The bread/coffee cakes were excellent, salad very crisp and not overdressed, and fish cooked to perfection. Only complaint was - the pasta (kids menu) was way oversalted and my daughter was too shy to say anything until the end of the meal. It was a VERY pricy bowl of pasta that was only half consumed.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMCulinary magic in an old millWe San Francisco residents and friends and family have dined at Millwrights on 2 occasions. Great setting---picturesque and comfortable (except the chairs). Service was casual but attentive. Ah, the food: our son commented that his dining experience was the best of his decade plus in CT. More recently our friend and native of Connecticut rated his experience as one of the "greatest'" he has had in CT. The lamb was outstanding; ditto the stuffed quail. The kale and watercress salad was a uniform hit. Wine options, though not extensive, were first rate (the Federalist chardonnay was new to us who live near where it is made but it was memorable.) Kudos to all!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed excellent food,We enjoyed excellent food, service that was friendly, professional and unobtrusive, and ambience that can't be matched in the Farmington Valley.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGustatory Delights -Lovely SettingThis restaurant has enormous potential, with a bit of room for improvement - (don't we all):) It should not deter you from sampling their delicious cuisine and beautiful setting! I highly recommend their perfectly seasoned chicken (but would pass on the NY Strip). Kale was flavorful but "drenched" in buttermilk dressing (ask for on side). For those reviewers who complain about "portion size", they are apparently not accustomed to fine dining where quality of produce and presentation are foremost, not piles of pasta or potatoes ... if thats what you want, there are many offerings (I don't need to name them here).
Fois gras was disappointing because I was expecting a "seared" fois ... my error. Service & Maitre' D were flawless.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGet a table by the windowGet a table by the window with a view of the waterfall, it's a beautiful background. The ambience of the dining room is excellent, brick walls and subdued lighting. Even though they were busy it wasn't noisy and conversation was easy, no need to shout. Everything was first rate, the foie gras was outstanding as was the skate wing. The pork was rubbed and crusted to perfection, cooked perfectly with that delicate crunch like a good sirloin steak. The pork belly piece that accompanied it was smoky and succulent. The only detraction (this is picky) was the espresso was not up to par compared to the rest of the meal(too cold). I mentioned that to the server and they comp'd us one cup.
Overall one of the best meals in recent memory.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter than 5 starsBest meal I've had in a long time. Service was beyond outstanding. This restaurant is over an hour from our home but WE WILL BE BACK! Please please please keep it up!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceGreat experience at Millwright's Tuesday evening. Food was great, service prompt and helpful and view lovely. We're planning to come back very soon.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMarvelous Millwright's!Millwright's was marvelous on Sunday evening. We celebrated a birthday there and it could not have been more perfect. The scenic view, the service, the food, the wines were all Fabulous. The Birthday Boy had a Wonderful experience and we were all very happy with the celebration from start to finish. We particulary loved the slow roasted salmon. It is just yummy! Try this dish if you haven't yet!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved the restaurant!!We loved the restaurant!! Service, food and atmosphere were A+!! It was my wife's birthday dinner that I noted when I made the reservation. The staff was wonderful and very attentive to our needs. We were seated in a downstairs quiet corner that had a view of the waterfall. We choose the tasting menu; a 7 course dinner with a wine paring. All courses were really delicious and they matched the wine well!!! This was a wonderful dinning experience!!!!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group of four selectedOur group of four selected the chef choise with wine parings which was perfect for us. We were preasently suprised with the course selections that Brent arranged. Course delivery was at a restful pace which we prefer although the accompanying wine did not always appear at the same time - it seemed to be an after thought. We plan to return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoy fine dining and wereWe enjoy fine dining and were eager to try this new restaurant with the reputation for extraordinary food and a view to behold. We were not disappointed. The warm ambiance and rustic decor was only surpassed by the perfect window seat overlooking the waterfall. As the sun set the reflection of the orchids and twinkle lights in the glass doubled the pleasure. Beginning with the oysters the food was excellent and new blended flavors an experience. Service was friendly and relaxed. Our evening celebrating a birthday was very enjoyable on all accounts.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the menu with theI loved the menu with the fusion of New England and French elements. There are quite a few items that I would like to sample and am looking forward to future dining experiences there.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Dining ExperienceWe ordered the Tasting Menu for dinner and added the wine pairing as well. The food was presented so beautifully was absolutely delicious! Our service was outstanding from the hostess to the waitstaff! The view from our table was excellent...overlooked the waterfall. We had a wonderful night out and will definately go back!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious and theFood was delicious and the dining room had a great rustic atmosphere. Sort of a gourmet twist on New England favorites. The service was friendly and quick. Only negative was our Table for two was right next to another...made for not so private conversations.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experience at thisWonderful experience at this restaurant. It was everything I expected and more.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best new additionsOne of the best new additions for great dining in Hartford county. Food and customer service were excellent. Beautiful location in Simsbury as well. You can tell they really care about what they do at Millwright's with the attention to detail in everything.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good RestaurantWe had diinner on a recent Sunday evening and enjoyed our experience. There were 3 of us, including one vegan so each order was different: steak for one, salmon for another, and a barley vegetable dish for another. The steak was very good and the salmon was also surrounded by asparagus and tiny potatoes and a rich sauce (a bit rich). The vegan dish was not on the menu but was offered when asked and it was excellent:black barley topped with perfectly cooked vegetables: snow peas, sugar snap peas, asparagus, and wild mushrooms - exceptional. We also had a side order of black barley (non-vegan) that was topped with wild mushrooms which one of us liked but another non-vegan thought was too rich as it seemed to be made with a cream.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a nearly perfect mealWe had a nearly perfect meal and our poet guest from NYC was mightily impressed. The restaurant is pricey and the portions are a little on the small side. But the quality of the overall experience was very high.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!Fantastic, in every way. Food is amazing and inventive and service is remarkable.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious but not obvious flavorsWonderfully curated wine list. Great view of the river and falls. Engaged, helpful, joyful service. The food: lovely well-balanced flavors, delicious but not obvious -- the salad dressing, and the pea-sauce on my scallops made me think "wow -- this seems so perfect yet I can't tell exactly what is the combination of flavors." I would come here often if I lived closer. This was my first meal and is my new "special meal" restaurant.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent inThe food was excellent in both preparation and taste. The only reason why I did not give the food an outstanding rating was that night every item served was lukewarm, including the chowder.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery dish we ordered - fromEvery dish we ordered - from the salads to dessert - was fabulous. We enjoyed a night of deliciousness, with a fantastic view of the waterfall thrown in for good measure.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a very nice dinner here.Had a very nice dinner here. Went with oysters, chicken & dumplings, and the beets for apps. Had the scallops for dinner. Everything well-cooked and delicious. That said, wasn't blown away. (I am somewhat new to the going out for a nice dinner scene. Have been a couple places now. When I went to Mill at 2T I was literally blown-away, i.e. "this might be the best thing I have ever tasted.") Service was great. Like the space, too.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectionChef Tyler Anderson, A.J. and Staff have created a phenomenal dining experience on every level. I would recommend to anyone.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! There is no doubt that Chef Tyler and his team know what they're doing in the kitchen. The food at Millwrights is incredible My boyfriend and I will surely be talking about it for a very long time. The front of the house staff was also extordinary. We felt so relaxed and comfortable, we spent all night there and almost didn't want to leave. This was a superb experience, Millwrights is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Connecticut!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMvery nice setting. It alwaysvery nice setting. It always amazed me that no other restaurants made a go of it in this location. Had 2 servers, both very nice. Interesting wine list, its separated out by how the wines taste, I prefer a list of all one varietal, etc; but this may work for some.
Although they change the menu with the season, we still had the winter menu on April 5!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMEVEN MY MOTHER WAS IMPRESSEDEASTER DINNER WITH MY MOTHER, WIFE AND GRANDDAUGHTER WAS OUTSTANDING3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat more can you ask for? What more can you ask for? The table that we had requested alongside the window looking over the millpond was waiting for us when we arrived. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and attentive. And best of all, the food was fabulous. Overall, we had a great Easter Brunch at Millwright's! We were even entertained by a mink swimming around in the millpond and climbing along the bank of the brook -- Again, what more can you ask for?3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had heard great things,We had heard great things, but this exceeded our expectations. Food was exceptional, but atmosphere and view of the water were even better. The building has tons of history and the restaurant melds perfectly with it's character. Value for money was well above other notable restaurants in the area.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThey went above and beyondThey went above and beyond for our anniversary. We heartily recommend Millwrights to anyone who appreciates fine dining at its best.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMfantastic food, great service.fantastic food, great service. room downstairs is a bit sparse on atmosphere. Mare sure you ask for a table upstairs, we were disapointed.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMlovely preparation of alllovely preparation of all dishes. limited menu but chef will accommodate dietary needs and taste. definitely recommend for anyone looking for seasonal food menu options, wonderfully seasoned and served with an interesting twist.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMill streamsEnjoyed the food and the experience, the staff were friendly and attentive. Great fire in the fireplace in the bar area. Entry needs a few more sconces to warm it up, some nice old fashioned torchers in brass.
All the best, I will be back3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved the bar area. LoveWe loved the bar area. Love the ambience of the bar and the entire restaurant. The service was impeccable. My husband was absolutely in love with his meal. I on the other hand liked mine, I didn't love it. It didnt wow me. We will definitely go back though. It's a classy establishment3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful place!Millwright's atmosphere is a '10'! A beautifully rustic old mill with hefty exposed beams over head and interesting artifacts scattered about give it authenticity. Great views of waterfall and pond. Food is great, if not a bit unusual: very creative and interesting preparations, very small portions, quite expensive. I missed the salt and pepper. This place is a great special occasion restaurant and a cool hang-out for hard core foodies.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOver The TopOur second visit to Millwright's was Outstanding in every aspect. The food, the service, the wine, the ambience, the view were all over the top! We felt the restaurant had made great improvements since we visited during its first week in operation. So, if you went in the very beginning and haven't gone back for any reason, I urge you to give them another try! I believe you will be very pleasantly surprised by what you experience. For specifics on food, the slow roasted salmon was LOVED by everyone at our table. The pasta dish (linguine with crispy kale) was equally LOVED by everone at our table! All 3 diffent wines were excellent! And the chocolate hazelnut daquois and the cheesecake were scrupmtious; the Birthday Girl loves chocolate!1/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOh my gosh this place hasOh my gosh this place has it all. A view, romantic spots to sit, open kitchen and wonderful food and attentive service. Finally a restauarnt where the staff seems to enjoy where they work and what they do. Too many servers in too many places feel complelled to indicate that this the "other job" or just a stop over. Food portions are just right and the kitchen is willing to work with you. This is a restauarnt worth a visit.12/22/2012 12:00:00 AM
