Diner Reviews
  • "Wow, amazing food at Millennium! We don't get to the City much but have wanted to try Millennium for some time. A local event was a great chance to try this restaurant. I am not a vegetarian but the food was amazing in color, texture and taste. I admit that I did not understand much of the menu descriptions, but picked items almost at random. We started with the roasted ranch potatoes, then my main course was the carrot bolognese. Both were great looking in the plate and tasted great better. The main course had a wide variety of great tastes. The service was very, very good. I hope to make it back soon."

  • "I think Millennium has the best of everything. Best quality of food and service. There are not many vegan restaurants in the Bay Area , Millennium is great for celebrate special occasions. I little pricey and the food can be a little rich."

  • "We had a lovely experience one we were seated... Upon arriving 15 minutes early, the host said we could order cocktails at the bar and sit at one of two cocktail tables by the entry way. I stood at the bar in the designated-by-the-host location to order cocktails; after 10 minutes, I flagged the fellow working behind the bar and asked if I could order some drinks. It was another 15 minutes before I had them. Seems to me the restaurant would benefit from a more welcoming/while you wait ambiance. The cocktails and food were delicious."

  • "I had heard so much about this restaurant from vegan and non-vegetarians. I was extremely disappointed and will not be back. We went with friends and ordered the prix fixe 4-course dinner for $55. Nothing was served hot. The fiddlehead fern salad was mushy, the artichoke starter was the only bright spot with a delicious nettle pesto, the quinoa entrée with some sort of beans was odd while the risotto entrée was more flavorable but too salty, and the dessert of chocolate pudding was delicious although the cherry sorbet did not work with the chocolate. Our server was awkward and unable to tell us the ingredients of the dishes served. It was a good thing we had lots to talk about with our friends because the service was unbelievably slow."

  • "Our experience was not as great as it has been in the past, but still I always enjoy Millenium. We took 3 friends who are carnivores and I recommended the fixed menu. The fiddlehead salad was great and the artichoke salad very tasty and interesting. The main courses were a bit disappointing. The quinoa was good but the risotto was salty and the fava beans overwhelming. The dessert was great as always. Next time I will recommend that they order off the regular menu. The drinks were great- especially the nettle-tini. The wine list is reasonable. Millenium is expensive and I knew that. I can remember ordering a tasting menu a few years ago that was out of this world- it appears that is no longer offered."

  • "We opted for the Frugal Foodie menu option offered early in the week; appetizer, entree & dessert for $42 before tax and tip. Food and service were excellent in keeping with the restaurant's long standing and well deserved reputation as an exemplary fine dining experience. Creative combination of ingredients, textures and flavours. Decent portion sizes. Dessert was scrumptious! This restaurant is comparable to most any other fine dining restaurant in the country."

  • "Millenium never fails to deliver complex flavors, makes the most of what is in season, talented kitchen and staff. We go every time we are in SF and it is a favorite of our entire family!"

  • "I love Millennium! We have been here three times now, and every time is just as good as the last! By far my favorite vegan restaurant in the country! Definitely order whatever style tempeh they have on the menu that day!"

  • "We are discerning non-vegan foodies who sometimes cook vegetarian, and eat at hole-in-the walls to Michelin 3 star restaurants. Millenium met our expectations. Appetizers were too bland or too strong, but the main courses were impressive and well executed - more complex and interesting, with fuller flavors, and a good deal at $24. Portions were generous. Excellent dessert: interesting & balanced flavors when you take bites containing all the components. We were more impressed with Millenium for the food than Greens or Gather in Berkeley which is more casual. Service was flawless. Ambiance is upscale but not as swanky or expensive as Michelin 1 star places. Use the $12 valet parking: pull up in front, lock the car & bringing in the key."

  • "Everything was great as always, except for what i think may have been grilled chard. It was so tough, I would have asked for a steak knife if I thought you had one. We always invite friend(s) along to share our "discovery" of this place. Had I not tried to eat the chard (if that is what it was), i would not still have had a full plate after our friends had finished theirs. We eat here each time we come to the city and know that this sort of thing can happen. A- is nothing to be ashamed about. It's usually just fine."

  • "My wife and I arrived 5 minutes early for our 7 p.m. reservation and were seated very quickly. Our waiter, Devian, was EXTREMELY helpful breaking down the menu for us. The appetizers were delicious as well as the main course and the dessert was amazing. We loved our experience and the superb service we received. We will definitely be returning to try out more of the other courses on the menu. Thank you Millenium!"

  • "All vegan restaurant; the menu is extensive and imaginative. We ordered the tasting menu with the wine tasting. What I like the most is that the dishes were all quite unique with various combinations of vegetables/fruits all accompanied with some delicious/amazing sauces. I was quite septic on the organic wine, however, they were all very pleasant."

  • "The menu was utterly dazzling — then the food didn't quite have the pop we were to expect. Excellent service. A tad bit of vegan snootiness. Great atmosphere and drinks. The awesome selection of tea is entirely from Samovar restaurant."

  • "The building looks like an old south american back packers when you come in. The menu is exciting and vegitarian. We had the set menu with wine parings which was okay value but very interesting concoctions. Great if you are a plant eater, but just okay if you are an omnivore."

  • "When I made reservation I requested for a booth but when I got there the host to me that those are for people who makes reservations months in advance and for big groups. When I went to use the restroom I saw a couple sitting in the booth so I went up to the host and told him I thought you said those are for big groups that's when he said we accommodate people with reservations months in advance and this women standing behind him I'm not sure if she's another host was standing there giving me this mean dirty look. They were so unprofessional"

  • "Sent back our food. It was bland and flavorless and some is the dishes looked like a bunch of garnishes on one plate with no rhyme or reason. Would not eat here again. Our group left the restaurant and ended up eating elsewhere. That has never happened before. Usually we are flexible and easy going about our food but this was not good at all."

  • "I'm actually VEGAN and I've tried almost all vegan food in the area. Millennium was NOT good. The soup was way way way too salty. I mean, so salty I had to drink three glasses of water. And by the time I was done with the soup, I had lost my apetit. The main dish was also salty, tasteless, and there were no visible vegetables. The waitress noticed the full plate in front of me but didn't ask. Not to mention the pricy bill that came afterwards. I have had much more delicious vegan food for less than half the price of this restaurant. The waitress was also careless. WILL NOT GO BACK."

  • "I had not been in a few years. The food is still good, and my vegetarian/vegan friends appreciate the variety of menu choices, but the dining room was disappointing. It is feeling very tired and in need of some attention. In particular, on the night I was there the front room had a strong odor. Not appetizing!"

  • "Very expensive and the food creations have gotten too exotic to be really tasty. It is also located in a very bad neighborhood with a street homeless person every 10 feet at night. Parking impossible unless you valet or you are lucky. At the end of the meal my credit card was not visually placed in front of me on the bill and I ended up leaving it. Big hassle getting it the next day as I was on my way to the airport. The restaurant did call me which was nice. Years ago I left a nice scarf and never got it back."

  • "Millennium never disappoints, always surprising you with such creativity and beauty of their food, every combination is thoughtful and delicate. Non-vegans commonly react with astonishment - I didn't realize vegan food can be so good! Yes - you can actually have a wonderful meal without harming any animal on the way... And the desserts - you may not have room for them when you get to that point, but dare not skip - they are heavenly. Roll yourself out feeling you just did something right, and knowing you want to come back."

  • "Time and time again, dinner at Millennium is a win. A delight for the tastebuds and lovely staff and service. Anyone who has questions as to whether or not veg food can be delicious should make reservations now. I've brought many of my omnivorous friends and family here and they are always happily surprised what a nice time and great meal they have. I'm grateful that the Bay area has such a notable vegetarian restaurant that maintains its high standards year after year."

  • "My reservation was 8pm and checked in 10 min to 8pm. I was told a few minutes but ended up finally called at 8:25pm. Never explained why or when would be seated or introduced their bar or anything while we're waiting. With our customer from overseas, it was a little dissapointment. Food was excellent and the server was very friendly."

  • "The food shows creativity and, given the self-imposed limitations of the restaurant, is reasonably good. Service was gracious."

  • "We LOVE Millennium, our fave restaurant. Great ambiance, great food. This night was a bit off the mark.Seaweed salad was delicious, and we had high hopes. Too bad both entrees had "too much going on " extraneous ingredients, either adding nothing or eclipsed by bolder ingredients, still good, tho not terrific, as we've come to expect. The devil's food cake I ordered for dessert was delivered by someone else but Not the decaf. After waving down our waitress, impersonal and remote from the start, she said "I'll have to make a fresh pot." The time to say that (and the time to MAKE it) is when it is ordered, NOT in the middle of a rich chocolate dessert. silly, maybe, but It unfortunately put a huge damper on the whole meal for me. Bummed :("

  • "Haven't been here for almost a year and I must say that the restaurant hasn't lost anything from my previous visits. The service is purely professional but not off-putting or snooty. They were able to get the flowers I'd had delivered there during the afternoon onto our table before we sat down preserving the surprise. I like to order the Harvest menu with the wine pairing which we did again this time. Really great selections including avocado soup with a nice relish, cabbage (very dark green--like kale) rolls, black quinoa cakes, and a fantastic desert of pastry and chocolate with ice cream... ALL without animal fat. Could have fooled me ! The wine pairings are first rate as well, each choice meeting the food in joyous union."

  • "The food here is really excellent and I am a foodie fron NYC. That said, I did not feel welcomed at all. I had a resevation, was dressed properly, yet the staff was snobby and inept. The bus boys were much more on top of things than the staff. I ordered a cocktail and full 3/4 courses with wine. The waiter poured the white wine, served it, then the soup before bringing the cocktail. The white wine was getting warm while I sipped my cocktail. I returned the soup until I finished the drink. The waitress then asked if there was a particular timing I wanted. I said, just common sense, cocktail before the first course. Service went downhill from there. More attention should be paid to service. I walked out unhappy, even though the food was good."

  • "Second time to Millennium. Arrived 15 minutes late and still was seated right away. The food is excellent."

  • "This was my third visit to Millennium and by far the most disappointing. Our table felt the service was unwelcoming -- bordering on unfriendly -- which was an unpleasant change from our prior visits. Some of the food was also unpalatable: the tempeh entree, brik pastry purse, buckwheat polenta, and "dosa" all had a bit of an odd flavor and aftertaste we couldn't put our finger on. Normally we're good about finishing our food, but three of us didn't even finish (or want to finish) our entrees. I can't be too dismissive of Millennium because of its vegetarian-friendly pedigree and its quality on previous visits, but this time there was a clear dropoff in both food and service."

  • "Made a much anticipated return visit to Millennium as it was my daughters birthday as we had such a wonderful dinner there a few years ago on another visit to San Francisco. While the restaurant was very accommodating and the food very good, the service was extremely lacking. Our female server was not friendly in the least and did little to explain the current tasting menu. She seemed annoyed when asked any questions or if we sought advice on what to choose. She offered little useful information and when our food and wine was served, she simple put it down in front of us with very little fan fare or comment. Unfortunately, this server made the dining experience only "okay" when it should have been great. It was disappointing"

  • "As a person who eats meat, I was very disappointed in the food. I asked the waiter to recommend a meal and he mentioned three from the menu, but said all of the dishes are very good. Therefore I choose his recommendation of the Kobe stir-fry. Big mistake. Meals imitating meat will never going to be as good as what the dish was intended to be because it is missing the ingredient that the dish was intended to use. The flavors were good, but the texture was completely off. I am sure this is a great restaurant if you are completely vegetarian, but by no means is this a restaurant you have to go to if you eat meat. BOTTOM LINE: As an out of towner, I was disappointed I used one of my nights to dine with this restaurant."

  • "Even if you're not a vegan (and I'm not), the food here is great, and you'll get to try dishes that you've never thought of trying. And the price is reasonable for the amount, quality, and inventiveness of the meal."

  • "Excellent, tasty, thoughtful food. Have never been let down dining here. A tip- the table down near the kitchen was so noisy we had to ask to be moved in order to hear each other. Fortunately, that evening it was possible to move us."

  • "The restaurant was casual. Patrons in jeans and tshirts many people walking in off the street into the adjoining Best Western hotel. This is not the upscale fine dining restaurant I had hoped for. Lighting was good and service was decent bt nothing special. The sign outside is weathered and extremely dated. On to the food. We ordered around 7 dishes. One if them, the asparagus, was worth eating. Very tasty. Everything else was bland tasting, mediocre or just plain tasted BAD. Avoid the rice cakes and tempeh. I would not recommend the restaurant. I took my vegetarian husband here for his birthday thinking he would be in food heaven, but it was one of the worst places for veg food we have been to."

  • "From the creamy bread spread to the last bite of mouthwatering ice cream, every spoonful was delectable. Most bites transported me back to Paris and wanting more and more. The wines were ingeniously paired with each and every course. No wonder Millennium has been all the rave for so many years!"
