Diner Reviews
  • "I feel somewhat uncomfortable writing a critical review for a restaurant that has such a good reputation, but our recent dining experience was a disappointment. Two of usI ordered the steak salad and the steak was incredibly tough. We mentioned it to our server. The manager came to our table to apologize, and they comped us for the meat portion of the salad. That was very nice, but I would rather have had a good salad. Also, it took two requests to get bread for the table (long wait) and one of the two couples got an inaccurate bill. Finally, the restaurant has a high noise level and fairly loud music, which makes it difficult to visit. Based on this experience, we probably won't visit this restaurant again."

  • "A very nondescript restaurant, been here twice and both with the same experience. Over and done with this place. Marginal servers both times and tasteless food."

  • "Entrees were delicious with the exception of the roasted vegetable side dish. It had w-a-y too much oil and veggies were mushy rather than crisp and roasted. Sweet potato puree was absolutely delicious!! Clean, beautiful, well decorated and the service was impeccable."

  • "This is by far my favorite restaurant! The food is consistently fabulous and the service is hard to beat! One of the best happy hours in town! I recently tried their brunch and the Bloody Mary won me over! They do a fantastic job!"

  • "Monday night is half priced bottle of wine night and they offer a nice selection of options. Friendly and efficient staff. Baby kale salad is a must. Pasta with bolognese sauce was very tasty as well. I really like how the menu includes the nutrition information."

  • "Reservations = you're seated when you're seated. Turn the heat down; you can burn up waiting by the fireplace and while at the table. Hosts were cordial. Waitress was indifferent. Interior is interesting. Overall? It's less than mediocre and you need a burger after. Is there a new trend in dining on unseasoned food? The best thing, flat bread pizza; doesn't take a genius to make one. I had OK chicken. The final dish, $33 unseasoned halibut over rice noodles floating in water with sea beans. Sorry sea beans, you were misled into thinking your saltiness would make it better. A million ways to make fish well, here: Need Not Apply. With such a beautiful restaurant, it seems tragic to overprice flavorless food and serve it with melancholy."

  • "Food was excellent started with the vegan chili, a blue cheese salad and salmon and the sea bass. Portions on the fish are very small and served with more salad so start with a soup! No bread is served so you will not over eat here. Very comfortable restaurant! Wait staff almost always very good. Not a lot if selections but great small plates to share."

  • "I chose Mill Valley Kitchen because I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and wanted to take my 26-year-old son out for dinner at a place where I could relax and celebrate with himf. The staff really went the extra mile, especially our waitress. It was a great location for this meet-up because it's close to town. I had no trouble getting there from 394 because I got off at Penn and took the parkway south. I'm looking forward to returning when they have the patio open. A gem. I'm telling everyone about it!"

  • "The food was wonderful, the service was a bit weak. For our party of four, two meals arrived quite a bit earlier than the other two. When one of those meals arrived, the egg dish was the wrong choice and we had to ask for it to be corrected.... it was in a timely manner. We had ordered one dish for our table to share, that did not arrive with our meals, and again we needed to ask for it and then it was served to the table. NOt sure if this was confusion between wait staff or kitchen confusion. Our waiter made comments about how much food we ate, that felt inappropriate, it is not really his business to assess what folks eat.... especially at an establishment that specializes in food."

  • "We picked Mill Valley Kitchen for our date night. I had made a reservation for 7:30 and had requested an appropriate table for a date. I had to change the time of the reservation from 7:30 to 8:00 at the last moment. The staff was very accommodating with request and table where we were seated was perfect was for the occasion. They had a good wine list and service was prompt. Overall our experience was above average and I would definitely return to this restaurant."

  • "The attractive decor at Mill Valley reminds one of California. It feels and tastes like an expensive restaurant but the prices are great. Also like those tiny desserts that satisfy a sweet tooth."

  • "Very good experience on the night of our reservation, but horrid service Wednesday night. Almost as if I was not there. Truly. But it's proven to be a very good place overall."

  • "wonderfully presented, portions are quite small for the price. I know much of the food is organic and that means the price will be greater. the biggest drawback for our group was the noise level. There is so little to absorb sound. The four of us had a difficult time hearing each other so conversation was difficult."

  • "I brought 2 friends from the other side of the river, St Paul, to Mill Valley Kitchen. I'd been to the restaurant 3 times and I was pretty sure they'd like it. They did--loved it, in fact! Lovely decor, creative and delicious food, excellent wait staff. We'll all be back, either together or separately."

  • "It's becoming more and more difficult for a restaurant to differentiate itself by offering organic cuisine and local fare, but Mill Valley does a nice job of it none the less. They had a fun list of specialty drinks that were most definitely unique and, judging by the reactions around the table, quite tasty. Entrees were beautifully presented, and delicious - if perhaps a bit small by my Midwestern sensibilities. Our choices included steak, two kinds of fish and a pasta. We also ordered a variety of the dessert shooters and they were a hit, as was the plate of warm chocolate chip cookies. The servers were all knowledgeable and friendly and made some great recommendations. Trust them, they won't steer you wrong."

  • "We love coming to Mill Valley Kitchen. As vegans, it is difficult to find good food out! Mill Valley Kitchen offers several dishes that are already vegan and they are great about making changes for us to "veganize" other choices. We loved the Hummus with Fresh Vegetables (they are organic!) , the Vegan Chili, and the Vegetarian Burger Wrap was fantastic! The meat eaters in our party are always blown away by the great food as well! The service is always wonderful, friendly, and unobtrusive. I would highly recommend this beautiful restaurant."

  • "Experience here is generally very good to great, which is why we recommend and go to it frequently. Only concern is that now I am over sixty, it is really difficult to hear others at one's table."

  • "we both had scallops and vegetablrs--delicious and low cal, low fat, and I got mine without any salt, which is good for me"

  • "Mill Valley never disappoints. I love bringing friends there for the first time. They are always impressed. My friend and I each had a Bloody Mary. It was wonderful with all the fixings, pickle, olive, celery, etc. Had some zip to it too! I ordered the chicken, brie, fig sandwich with the mixed green salad and it was fabulous! The food is always so pretty and nice to know that it is farm to table! I love that they have the nutritional value for each item. I had the pineapple parfait with the chia seeds and it was great with a latte. It's just always such a happy and satisfying experience every time I go! Can't wait to go back! Sea bass is my favorite entrée and my friend tried it and was equally impressed!"

  • "The Pork Chops were amazing, as was the Tuna appetizer. I would also highly recommend the Raspberry Lemonade. In general, an outstanding meal. The only miss to my mind, was that there were almost no GF options for kids, which is very surprising because there are numerous GF and V options on the main menu."

  • "My friend picked MVK for our annual birthday lunch. We decided to go later to enjoy the happy hour and very glad we did. The specials were great and the wine offerings were too. A little pricey, but we felt it was worth the splurge. We ordered three of the mini desserts and these were perfect for sharing. We were there for 2 hours and the service staff were very attentive to our table, filling water and just checking if we needed anything. Will definitely go back."

  • "Three of us met for lunch on Thursday, and my two friends had never been there before. Our server was Phinneas (sp?), and he was great! He explained things on the menu, recommended certain menu items, and overall we had a very excellent lunch. The arrangement of tables was nice, because we never felt as though we were "on top" of other guests. We also appreciated the valet parking. I have been there several times, and I am sure my guests will want to return."

  • "We celebrated a birthday this week at Mill Valley Kitchen. The server was wonderful and the restaurant gave the birthday person a complimentary dessert. Nice touch to a lovely evening. Also the menu is perfect for the gluten free items which one in our party appreciated."

  • "What a delightful find! We enjoy eating at restaurants that feature local/organic produce and ran across the Mill Valley Kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My friend had the pork tenderloin, I had the scallops. Both were perfectly prepared and attractively presented. Depth of flavor provided enjoyment of every bite and portions were perfectly sized without carrying out leftovers. Service was friendly and well informed. We shared a bottle of wine that was very reasonably priced. Also had coffee and the warm cookies to end on a sweet note. Expected them to be more "homemade" in taste, texture and appearance, but they did provide that sweet, light end to the meal. I would definitely recommend Mill Valley Kitchen as a great place to eat!"
