Mikado at Desert Springs JW MarriottWe had a so-so evening attemptingWe had a so-so evening attempting to celebrate a birthday for my wife. Gustavo -- our chef for the evening was MOST excellent and very attentive. I was seated with 7-8 other people I didn't know -- of which only 2 actually chatted with us. The others were young ladies wanting nothing to do with us -- so the atmosphere was somewhat dulled by their stand-offish attitudes. I would recommend Mikado for a FULL group taking up the whole table -- as dining with these complete strangers was not much fun at all. Couple that -- with the facing group of obvious military types, who oogled the ladies at our table all evening... it was uncomfortable but nothing was said or done about it....
We'll come back for private room / full table only.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter than Benihana!Best Teppanyaki restaurant in the valley, hands down. Amazing menu, atmosphere, service -- everything!
The restaurant is surrounded by koi ponds, fun for kids and adults alike. You can take a boat from the lobby of the beautiful JW Marriott up to the restaurant. The chefs are funny and beyond skilled. I highly recommend this as a stop on your vacation, a birthday celebration, wedding anniversary, prom, etc... Bravo, Mikado!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious. Went duringFood was delicious. Went during restaurant week and paid $38 for soup, steak and shrimp entrée, fried rice, and ice cream. The food portions are big...enough for left-overs. Very entertaining watching the chiefs cook. Great for large groups too. Service is great!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat sashimiNot only is the restaurant very comfortable, but the sashimi is excellent. Getting to the restaurant from the hotel lobby via a boat was an added treat.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner and a Show!!This has been a favorite spot of ours whenever we visit the desert. Or kids love taking the boat from the lobby of the desert springs Marriot ... And the Mikado is a restaurant like Benihanas... So it truly is dinner and a show!! Always fun and food is tasty.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFamily FavoriteWe come each year we visit the area. Really enjoy the food and experience.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOnce again all of us enjoyedOnce again all of us enjoyed food service and ambiance
They never forget to welcome our return and strive to incorporate their recognition in many different ways
Appreciate the management s endeavors5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat tepanyaki grill and social..My girlfriend and I were seated at this Benihana style restaurant at a grill next to a couple who were deputy sheriff reserve volunteers on one side and a family with two chaming young kids (one boy D-Man and one girl who was so adorable and exceptionally charismatic but her name now escapes me), with an attractive sweet mom, plus I think an also handsome looking grand parent or two. Point being...we had a great time meeting great people and enjoying good fun that the Japanese chef provided while making the delicious food for all of us. If you haven't been to one of these, it's a must do. And they have food choices for any type of eater!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Teppanyaki restaurant.Great Teppanyaki restaurant. Chef was very entertaining. Food was excellent. We had the shrimp and New York steak. Table service was very good.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSuch fun and we love itSince mikado opened our grandchildren when they visit want to go to the mikado
We took them age 5 and now they are in their 20s and they wanna go still4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat quality food!We enjoyed our evening but felt a little rushed, our Chef Ricky was great and funny, he put on an excellent show and cooked our meals to perfection. Our group had steak, prawns, scallops and chicken and all were delicious. Our service was not exceptional but okay, our miso soup came right after appies and rice immediately after before our dinners were even being prepared, so the rice was cold by the time we ate. Unless of course you ordered the fried rice which the chef prepared for an additional fee. At the end we wanted to relax and enjoy ourselves but they came by to clean our table and the grill, we felt like it was a signal for us to leave but we weren't ready to go! It soured off the evening but the food and Chef show made up for it.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service wonderful.Food and service wonderful. Decor is dated. Huge portions but expensive. Chef was very funny and good with kids. Like Benihana but better food.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI went here for my bachloretteI went here for my bachlorette party at the JW Marriott, this is where we went for dinner on Saturday. The food was amazing!!! Our cook really treated me well and had me play fun games! I loved it :)3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were lucky to have theWe were lucky to have the most skilled and funniest chefs at our table--Mike ("Mikado was named after him."). The food was amazing, especially the shrimp. The only small issue was that it took the bar staff too long to transfer the drinks we started in the bar while waiting to be seated for dinner to the table we were seated at.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner and a Show! This place is a real gem for anyone visiting the Palm Desert area -- especially with kids! It's a Japanese restaurant with the "Benihana" style teppan tables ... so a show comes free with dinner. The chefs have a great sense of humor and keep things lively. There is a beautiful koi garden to walk around in if the kids get restless ... and also a boat ride between the lobby and the restaurant to make things interesting and fun on the way to and from dinner. The teppan dishes are a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it! While not fancy, the food is tasty, relatively healthy, and high quality.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious & Entertaining!!!If you are looking to have a great meal that is entertaining as well as delicious, I would highly recommend this restaurant. We took the boat over to the restaurant which was a treat and the atmosphere and grounds are beautiful. The food was excellent, the servers were attentive and the chef made my daughter's 21st birthday a very memorable one. He was quick witted, fun, creative, and literally made her evening. He had her take her chair and move it 30'-40' away from where he was cooking, had her sit down and proceeded to toss a piece of shrimp through the air for her to catch in her mouth. She did it and the restaurant exploded with applause.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
