  • A few friends and I went out

A few friends and I went out for a singles Valentines dinner and we were expecting a typical Japanese sushi restaurant, but boy were our expectations highly exceeded! From the moment of stepping into the restaurant we could tell this would be a grrat night. They put our group into a private room in which we had to take off our shoes. It was probably the cutest environment I have ever eaten in. The food was absolutely scrumptious and the prices very fair for a Manhattan restaurant. If you go you must get a glass or two of the cold sake. Right off of Canal located 2 blocks from the train, this is a gem of a find. Everyone in our group was blown away by the quality of the food, service, and ambience and said that we surely would return.

Our service was painfully slow, but that was mostly due to an obnoxious group of women demanding that the restaurant honor an expired Groupon deal. The manager was very gracious and accomodated them despite their reprehensible behavior. That was pretty much the only reason my boyfriend and I decided to stay instead of leaving after sitting there for 15+ minutes without having anyone come to our table to bring water or take our orders. My sushi roll was amazing! I would go back just for that. His seafood entree smelled and tasty like seawater; I was not impressed at all with that dish but he did not complain. I don't think we'd be back unless it was for their sushi which was delicious.

I discovered Mika through a Groupon and I am very glad I did. Although very pricey the food is absolutely delicious. I came with my 12yo son for Christmas dinner and we really enjoyed ourselves. I hope to be able to come here again but for the price I paid to eat there that day even with the Groupon we could have eaten at least 3 times at our local Japanese spot that also delivers. Pretty much I would say if you really love Japanese food and have a decent budget I highly recommend you to try this place. It's a short walk down the block from the train so it's also easy to get to. My only complaint would be the choice of music. Completely not what I want to hear at such a restaurant. Other than that I give it 5 stars.

Great tasting food, and at a generous deal, really and truly! The service was mostly good if slightly confused of who actually had our table at any given time.

It was the night of the Noreaster. My friend and I showed up but they were closed. Which is understandable, but they could have called to let me know.

It was difficult to find and not even in the financial district. They charged for each hot sauce, and the food wasn't that great.

The decor is not much. You might even be discouraged by the entrance, which spirals weirdly above an ice cream shop. But do not give up. Go in, and get a table. The food is really great! I eat sushi often enough, but rarely do I say "YUM" when I eat it, and I surely said it when I ate here. Delicious sushi that does not break the bank! I will be back, and for now, in Manhattan, I eat sushi no where else.

Check in on Facebook and like them and you'll get a free scoop of ice cream at the end of your meal. We arrived just on time for our reservation and was seated immediately. There is a bit of a language barrier but it wasn't anything major.

TERRIBLE! i reserved for Sunday at 11am for 4 people and when we all went out of our way to get there, the restaurant wasn't even opened even though their site says opened at 11am. SO UNPROFESSIONAL. When we called the restaurant number, no one picks up and when we walk around and come back at 11:30, they're still not opened. I was so upset and we ended up eating at a Vietnamese place down the block.

Popped in for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised. One minor hiccup was that we had a dish we hadn't ordered delivered to our table and we weren't thinking and just started eating the fish dumplings. I then realised we hadn't ordered and flagged it to the waiter. We said we were happy to pay for them and just eat the rest. The waiter hurried away and came back and offered them to us complimentary and with an apology! If I'd been paying attention, that wouldn't have happened. But it showed great customer service. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

We were in the neighborhood and chose Mika because we wanted sushi. We were very surprised by how delicious it was. Don't let the entrance fool you since it is above an ice cream and snack joint. They have a great sushi chef, and we were very pleased with all our choices.

Above average sushi but not that much above. Nice presentation. Nice service. It is in kind of a weird setting. The 2nd floor of a place in Chinatown. Close to subway though.

This place has great prices and the food isn't bad at all. It isn't the most refined of Japanese restaurants, but if you're looking for a well priced tasty bit of sushi, this place will be great.

I met up with 2 of girlfriends for a midweek dinner and -- while the restaurant was pretty quiet -- it was the perfect setting for us to catch up and talk and ejoy a nice meal. The prices are amazingly cheap and the sushi was super fresh and creative. Honestly, it was just as good as Bond Street, Blue Ribbon, Haru - etc. The location is a bit "unique" because it's on the edge of Chinatown and the Financial District, and it's situated on the 2nd floor. So, I imagine that it would be pretty easy to miss if you didn't have specific plans to dine here. Also, they mentioned that they just got their liquor license so the beverage options were minimal. I'm sure they'll have a much busier scene once they load up the bar with more sake & spirits.
