Diner Reviews
  • "Best dish was the nigiri set. Omakase not worth the price. The restaurant should probably offer a-la-carte menu instead of sets. Maybe then it can attract more customers. I really like the concept, but food quality is not at the price charged. Very different level compared to 15 East or Sushi of Gari, yet the price might be more expensive. No wonder it was as quiet as a grave on a Friday night dinner time. I mean, this is NYC! even a so-so restaurant usually has no problem attracting diners during this time. I would probably go back for light drinks, as the ambience is great for lounging/gossiping, but definitely not ordering any food unless offered at a-la-carte price."

  • "This extraordinary restaurant is not for people who want comfort food. If you are adventurous and willing to try high end Japanese fare, by all means enjoy Mihoko's 21 Grams. Every detail has been carefully designed to provide an ambience of quiet luxury and refinement. Don't forget you wallet, however."

  • "Went there on Memorial weekend and besides one other table, just me & friend. Celebrating friend's birthday and this is by far the most wonderful dining experience in New York City in years. Feels like celebrity here. Even though everyone is away for holidays. Restaurant stays open for our reservation, had the whole place for ourselves. This place has all senses, atmosphere, deco, food, music, services and great pairing wines. Amazing experience and my friend loves it too. I will definitely visit it again in the future. We happened to caught glance of the owner and she is stunning lady. Down to earth and beautiful."

  • "Mihoko's 21Grams is an amazing restaurant GEM. I had the honor of having dinner here and a private cocktail party for my graduation. My Cocktail party was planned by the restaurant and it was the BEST with delicious food and amazing cocktails. The service was at its best and all the staff was thoughtful, considerate, and helpful throughout the entire night. The ambiance was excellent and the entire night was outstanding. The best part of the cocktail party was that the canapes were delicious, plentiful, and beautifully plated. Mihoko's 21grams is the BEST RESTAURANT IN NYC! It is amazing for dinner and private events like my cocktail party. Most important the management works with your budget unlike other fine dining restaurants."

  • "My wife and I went in for a bit of a celebratory meal, and that it was! Delicious food and attentive knowledgable service. We were sadly the only ones in the entire restaurant for 90% of the meal. Not sure why, but do hope for such a lovely place that they get busier! Would recommends highly. Enjoy!"

  • "Mihoko's 21 Grams is impressive by all means: superb dishes, wine list and professional service. You can't miss with this restaurant! We went for the ordinary $95 3 dishes menu with some doubt if it is not a bit too limited. We found out that it is very satisfying by all means. The Captain recommanded a French Shabu Shabu which proved to be very good. The COD stood out and is definitely a high point."

  • "Great ambience; very attentive service (without being overbearing). I got the sense the waiters cared about working there. Food's great, but portions are way too small. I ate every piece bread item offered just to supplement my meal. And an hour after getting home, I ate a bowl of Raisin Bran. Never before have I gone out to such a luxe place, and had to eat so soon after. "

  • "Food are amazing and great quality , but service I would say average . We order the omakase menu plus few extra portion of a la carte before the set menu . Waiters always forgot the drink order , inbetween meal forgot to offer water once we finish , Once we finish dish , waiters couldn't make a afford to pay attention on the table. Don't get why we need to pay the service change which they can't even simple provide a good services ."

  • "I am in love with this amazing restaurant. Everything about it ranging from the food, decor, music, and to the service is the epitome of perfection. The interior design is stunning and filled with detail. The food was delicious, like usual, and food presentation is always marvelous at Mihoko's 21Grams. I ordered the Omakasi and it was 7 courses of pure delight and indulgence. Mihoko's 21grams is very unique and indeed, it is my THE BEST AND MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT in NYC!!! "

  • "Amazing and Exotic! The food is creative and really one of a kind. Everything looks like its been made by an artist which you should totally be expecting. Yes it is pricey but if you're coming here, you should have expected it. Take your date or someone special and go have a quiet evening of chatting, great food, amazing service and pure romance."

  • "Room & food are very theatrical but don't match each other. Room is very French Marie Antoinette. And the food is very japanese. if the food matched the room better, I would recommend to friends. Price is not an object but you can't ask for charge $95 for shrimp/avocado roll as main course with tuna carpaccio to start and chocolate souffle to finish."

  • "The Restaurant is stunning, with pieces of art all over that are mostly collected from France. The space is stunning. The staff there were all very attentive. Our server Kevin did a wonderful job explaining what each course was, and even delighted us with some chef compliments. They have unique cocktails that were delicious, and an extensive wine list. I appreciated that they had bottles ranging from $50- over $700. The food was exquisite, the preperation, the melding of the flavors with the french touch and asian accents was perfection. Before we left, a kind man there showed us the different pieces of art that the owner had collected. This entire restaurant is one you will rave about after visiting it. Its romantic, beautiful and unique."

  • "I love to dine, but Mihoko's 21 Grams is now #1 on my list. I do not even know where to start, everything was outstanding. The food was delicious and the service could not have been any better, in a few words: I HAD AN AMAZING NIGHT. It was my first time dining here, but I will be back for much more festivities and fun!"

The wait staff,Manager and the bartender everyone was top notch. Each course was exciting and fun. It deserves its 3 star rating and can hold its head high among with others. This was such a beautiful fun evening I can't think of anything that could have made it better!"

  • "This is not a restaurant experience but a feast for all senses. With its lavish white leather furniture, Cartier mirrors, exquisite chandeliers this magnificent place amazes you every minute. The symphony of three course dinner comes served on tailor made dishes and cutlery. There is soft classical music in the background and a slide of paintings discretely filling out a white frame. Our favorite appetizers were the Burger 21 Grams and the delicately flavored Miso soup which comes in a surprise setting. The fluffy cod and tender meat were complimented artistically with stylish sauce and colorful side dishes . Tread carefully. You have entered the magic realm of Mihoko's soul."

  • "We went to Mihoko's 21 grams at 2 different occasions, 5 months apart and the food was consistently amazing. During the eight past years, we tried a lot of different restaurants in New York city and this is definitely one of the finest. I would not be surprised if the restaurant would eventually be a one star Michelin."

  • "Last week when I was in Spain , I had the opportunity to have dinner in "El Celler de Can Roca" Which is number 1 best restaurant in the world. BUT AFTER DINNING IN MIHOKO'S 21 GRAMS , I HAVE TO SAY THAT NYC IS GETTING THE BEST RESTAURANT IN THE WORLD IN 2014 AND THAT WILL BE MIHOKO'S 21 GRAMS. Great, great place. Food, service, Ambiance, location, everything is at its top, plus the price is so reasonable compared to the restaurants in the same level. It worth's every penny. Will go back for sure!"

  • "This is my second time going to Mihoko's and both experiences were AMAZING. I just wanted to have a good meal, some sushi and some tasty cocktails. This time I ordered the sushi omakase and it was DELICIOUS!!! All the dishes were outstanding, with astonishing food presentation. I am in love with the yuzi dessert, it was euphoric. I must say, when dining here you should try it. The best part of the night was when the manager had recognized me and welcomed me back with a cocktail on the house. I had the Mangue Tropicale and it was top notch. Next time I dine here, I am going to try the sake and wine pairing because I am sure it will be exquisite like every other detail of this restaurant. Definitely an NYC GEM."

  • "Mihoko's 21 Grams has to be one of NYC's best hidden gems ! I dinned here with my boyfriend the last night and we couldn't have had a more romantic evening. The food was INCREDIBLE and the service was FANTASTIC ! Their 3 course prix-fixe for $85 is top notch ! I'm not sure where else you can find a better deal ! I had the Beets, followed by a delicious tender Beef entree, and ended it off with a chocolate souffle. And for drinks ? I couldn't get enough of the Champagne Noir. I must of have had about 4 glasses ! Mihoko's 21 grams is definitely the place to take your special someone or a group of friends. Im already planning my next visit to Mihoko's. Special thanks to the staff for making our dinner and evening one to remember !"

  • "AMAZING DINNER! I dined here the other night for my best friend's birthday and it was a memorable night. The decor is exquisite, I have never seen so much detail and fine art intertwined in such an elegant manner. For my three courses, I started off with the beet salad than had the lobster for my main dish and then, chocolate souffle. The birthday girl had the sushi omakase and a special birthday dessert, she was delighted. Their winter cocktail menu was top notch and the prices were not as expensive as other fine dining restaurants. The staff was very polite, well trained, and had extensive knowledge of the menu. If you haven't dined here yet, you're missing out on the BEST DINING EXPERIENCE IN NYC I will be coming back to try the new menu"

  • "Everything was delicious, just slightly off perfect. The seared foie gras was slightly overcooked. The duck was also slightly overcooked. But still delicious. Portions were on the small side. We definitely needed more bread to be filled. The truffle butter for the bread was a very nice touch."

  • "The restaurant did everything it could to ruin Valentines Day. When we arrived, the hostess was rude. After being seated, it was impossible to get a waiters attention to place a drinks order. Finally, after 20 minutes we order a cocktail, though for the next 30 minutes we don't receive one of the drinks despite multiple requests. After being seated for 50 minutes we receive the missing cocktail and the first course of our 6 course tasting menu. The tuna cigars was fishy & inedible. I asked to speak to the manager but he never came over. They sold out of sparking wine on valentines day. Finally, 30 minutes and no food later, we got our coats and left the restaurant along with four other tables who all walked out. Overpriced and terrible."

  • "The restaurant was nicely decorated, and hostess was very welcoming. Unfortunately, it appears management made a error of judgement in the selection of a difficult and extensive tasting menu for St Valentine's Evening. The place was woefully understaffed in both the kitchen and the wait staff. The food was excellent - however, this was delivered with long waiting periods between courses, and on one occasion in the wrong order. The wine pairing was also not delivered with the appropriate course. We experienced numerous walk-outs around us. And the night was topped off by the arrival of the NYPD after a bag was supposedly stolen during the evening. All in all a real shame. I am sure this restaurant can be amazing, but it let itself down"

  • "We got the valentines menu and the wine pairing for two. The valentines menu wasn't as good as the regular menu, but the food was still good, and the service was outstanding where the waiter would come and explain each dish and each wine until somewhere between our 3rd and 4th course where we were left waiting for 1.5 HOURS between courses. The place looked like it got a lot busier at the time so I guess maybe that had something to do with it, but at the very least someone should have came by and told us something. We were told nothing, and nobody came by to apologize (during the wait, nor after). The waiter was lucky that my gf and I were patient and enjoyed each other's company until he got it together."

  • "Great Toro cigar, wonderful beet salad, superb seared foie gras, and melt-in-your mouth sushi. That's the last course received. After 1 and 1/2 hours waiting for next course we couldn't take it any more. Totally inexplicable. Too bad. Restaurant is stylish and perfect for an elegant dining experience. I appreciated white tablecloth. Not sure if it was service or kitchen but we arrived at 6pm and then begging to leave at 9 pm didn't quite leave with a positive impression."

  • "Worst dining experience of our lives - Valentine's day ruined! We were told that the kitchen was horrendously understaffed, which is why the wait staff were unable to handle the crowd. took ~6 hours to be served chef's tasting menu. The wait staff kept losing track of courses and drink orders, which only added to the frustration. And for the night cap? My wife's coat was actually stolen from the coat check room, and we had to file a police report with groups of others that had a similar experience. It's a real shame because a few of the plates were actually top notch, but we'll never come back or recommend this place to anyone we know..."

  • "This restaurant was one of the highest rated restaurants on Opentable's list for great food and ambience. Based on opentable's recommendation, we chose this to go to this restaurant during our recent trip to NYC. The food was not only overrated, but laughable for its price. The wagyu beef is worse than the typical diner's steak. Service was worse than Stardust diner that we went to following morning. The waiter must had memorized his lines well, because that's all he was able to offer, nothing more, offering poor recommendations when it came to food or anything else. I would avoid this restaurant at all cost. At more than $350 for two, your money is better spent somewhere else."

  • "21 grams is hard to describe. From the moment my date and I walked in, we were pampered and delighted by Mihoku's wonderful staff. One thing no rating can capture is how friendly and nice every single person was. The food was great - creative, delicious, and the timing of courses was perfect. The restaurant is beautifully designed as well. The best way I can sum this up is that my date and I were actively planning to come back before we left."

  • "We came to 21 Grams for Thanksgiving dinner and we shall return for other celebration dinners in the future. The menu is so creative and the fusion is perfection. The flavor balance is delicate and precise. Don't miss a pre-dinner cocktail, we shared a "Vogue" which was smoky and delicious and since the staff knew we planned to share the drink it was served in two glasses. Such a lovely touch of class. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. The ambiance maintains a sophisticated edge while being at once amusing and quirky. We had a really good time, never rushed. Worth the money."

  • "I chose Mihoko’s to celebrate my 36 birthday and it was a memorable experience; perfectly suited for my birthday. The staff was very attentive from the time we walked in to the time we walked out of the restaurant. The place is well decorated, beautiful table settings, and the food was unique. We enjoyed the delicious four course dinner, especially the amuse la bouche (chestnut cappuccino) and tasty lamb. Let’s not forget the outstanding cocktails. Everyone from the staff wished me a happy birthday. Once again the staff was great; best part of our experience. The great attention to detail and impeccable service makes it one of our best dining experiences in NYC thus far. I highly recommend this restaurant and hoping to return soon!"

  • "I decided to make a reservation after hearing rave reviews from a friend. My date was a special one, and I was seeking somewhat of an unforgettable experience. With the design alone, Mihoko's dining room was attention grabbing from the very beginning. We were greeted by an extremely warm maitre d', whose name we found out was Carlos. Upon entering the dining room we were both taken back by walls adorned in stunning 19th century art. We felt as though we had been transported to a royal banquet. Memorable dishes: *Shrimp uni avocado ceviche roll *Octopus Cappuccino *Duck d'Automne *Sake Souffle Each dish was presented in exquisite detail. Thanks to a wonderful experience, date # 2 is booked, and I'll certainly be back."

  • "My fiancé and I went to Mimoko's for her birthday. The dining room is beautiful and the food is amazing. However, to me, the best part of our experience was the staff. We showed up a little late for our reservation, but they were totally understanding. There was an event that we had to be at after dinner, and the staff did all that they could to provide us with an amazing, multi-course meal and yet get us to our next destination on time. I highly recommend the restaurant for a classy, but quieter romantic evening, or small group special occasion dinner."

  • "From cocktails to chocolate truffles, this restaurant is over the top in ambience, service and food, both delicious and beautifully plated. The most intimate dinner I have ever had in a public place. The amuse bouche, a "chestnut cappuccino", was extraordinary as was most of the food. Very pricey but worth every penny for a special occassion."

  • "Everything at this establishment is designed to make the evening here a long one. Each menu item needs to be explained by the server as the titles are unclear. This incredibly slows the ordering process. The nature of the food then means that each dish is made to order which is generally a good thing but it is slow. The food was fabulous and the service superb but 3.5 hours for a dinner is far too long. I will not return."
