Diner Reviews
  • "We would certainly recommend the Midtown Cafe for special or romantic events. The staff is fantastic."

  • "Knowledgeable waiters, great service, delicious food, menu has great variety. Free shuttle service to and from downtown events."

  • "This was my first visit to this restaurant. I went for lunch. Everyone (from the valet, to the host and waiter) was very polite and accommodating. The staff was the best part of the experience for me. When I first walked in the door, there is a very strong mildewy/damp/musty smell inside. The smell was very off-putting and I had a difficult time getting past it after that. It kind of set the tone for the rest of the experience. I kept looking around to see if I could see where this awful odor was coming from. Of course, that made me take notice of other not so pleasant things. The carpet looked dark and disgusting. The food was decent/good, but was nothing that I would tell people about. The smell was most memorable!"

  • "All the food was great. Portion size is not a little less but still great. Portion size is key because, it is expensive."

  • "I had an excellent meal and so did my husband. The artichoke soup was super. The shrimp and grits I have ordered before and would do it again. My creme brûlée was "to die for"!"

  • "We had a very memorable meal at the Midtown Café which is located right around the corner from the Vanderbilt Embassy Suites hotel. The restaurant itself is tiny, but the service was excellent and the food was memorable. My husband and I both ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese with Brie and Seared Scallops. O-M-G!!! My husband mmm'd his way through the entire meal and is still talking about how delicious (and decadent) it was. He enjoyed it so much he gave the cook a $40 tip!! I ordered the Key Lime Pie to go and it too was wonderful as a late night snack back at the hotel. This was one of the pricier meals we had in Nashville, but it was well worth it."

  • "Maybe too fast. We were looking for a nice relaxing dinner out and our food came so fast we were in and out in less than an hour. The food was good so we might go back sometime, but it was not the relaxing dinner we were hoping. Otherwise, this was a great place."

  • "Lunch at Midtown Café always meets or exceeds expectations. Our last visit was no exception. The choices available for reasonably priced wine by the glass, menu items, and desserts are plentiful. And the food is prepared perfectly from high quality fresh ingredients, plated appropriately, and served promptly and courteously. The wait staff is exceptionally attentive during the course of the meal. It just does not get any better than Midtown for lunch."

  • "Solid place but my expectations were so high after reading the reviews etc. Had lunch which was a southern seafood salad.Good very good however the stone crabs were about 14 in long. Id be embarrased to offer them as an item thats just me. LOved the muffins all 4 Had some dessert the key lime vg but could be little lighter and chiffon like, nice crumb crust and rasp coulle"

  • "I went here for the first time and with the specials they offered a flight of wine. You get a glass of wine with your salad and one with your entree. Well I did not love the wine that came with the entree and the server changed it for a different wine without a fuss. It was a great meal and the wine was excellent. I will go back the next time I am in town!"

  • "Favorite dishes for our table were the Shrimp and Grits as well as the Pork Tenderloin. Excellent service and atmosphere."

  • "Our server, Tim, was perfect and he helped make the evening enjoyable. The salad had fresh ingredients with some tasty extras. The Trout Almondine was delicious and light for a steam summer evening. We enjoy the advantage of the Symphony Shuttle Service. Thank you to the management for providing this to avid concert and symphony attendees."

  • "Midtown Cafe is a splendid little place. Great service. Our waiter was very patient with us while we tried to decide what to order from several fine dishes. I settle on the Veal 3-way, which was out of this world. After trying all 3 styles, I still couldn't decide on what to order. Our party was very pleased with the soup, salads, and entrees. We will return next time we are in Nashville."

  • " Since I am a pescitarian and have dairy issues, I was happy to find a good restaurant, with great service and food that wood accommodate. "

  • "Nashville has many new restaurants with good reviews and claims, but they do not have the history or track record of consistent quality in food, service and atmosphere as the Midtown Cafe. You never know who you will be sitting next to when the owner seats you...an old friend or a celebrity...but everyone is accorded the same excellent service. "

  • "Absolutely fantastic! Love, love, love the Shrimp and Grits! One of my top favorite spots in the country!"

  • "Midtown has always been one of my favs for dinner. Food is just fabulous as is the service. So accomodating when going to TPAC, Bridgestone, or the Symphony. That shuttle is such a perk. Went to lunch for first time and it was just as good as dinner. Lemon Artichoke soup to die for! Top pick in Nashville!!!"

  • "This was my first time visiting. I wanted to take my wife to a nice place for her birthday. I must say I picked the right place. We were greeted with a friendly smile and taking directly to our table without waiting. To me this was a plus. Our server was outstanding our dinner and wine was out of this world. I will be back and tell all my friends about City Cafe. "

  • "Enjoyed our first dinner at this restaurant! Nice wine list at good prices. The soups (house specialty artichoke and soup of the day chicken tortilla) were tasty. My husband and I both had the veal 3 ways. Deeelicious!!! Erath pinot noir was an excellent accompaniment. Our server was there when we needed him and we enjoyed the banter. All in all a very pleasant dining experience and one we will definitely repeat."

  • "I had not eaten at The Midtown Cafe in years, and am very happy that we chose to eat there again. Our first course of foie gras was superb, and after my wife tasted it she lamented that she had not ordered it for herself. My main course was duck which was cooked to perfection and was an excellent dish. Our server was very nice and efficient. Our dinner was very enjoyable and we will definitely return to Midtown again and again. "

  • "Solid all around, fine food, service just right, small, tasteful setting, a little pricey"

  • "Great food, knowledgable and professional service outstanding wine list. Lemon asparagus soup is incredible. "
    Dined on 5/21/2014
  • "This was a very average dinning experience, particularly given the price. Cold bread, mushy tuna tartar that had a lot more avacado and sea weed than tuna. Good size portions, but overall, I would call it an average $75 - $80 meal that, including one of the cheaper wines, eventually totaled $180 with tip for my wife and I. Just not all it's supposed to be, or at least that was our experience. "

  • "Once again, A truly magnificent dining experience. The seafood, especially the scallops, was "the best in town." Wine selection very good, and the special anniversary gift "touch" was truly first rate. A Must for evening dining or while visiting"

  • "Midtown has a great shuttle service if you attend the symphony. Have a delicious dinner, then ride their shuttle to the symphony. What a fantastic idea! No parking hassels."

  • "My family flew in from Texas for my college graduation this Spring; I chose Midtown Cafe as our post-ceremony place to dine. Reservations were made easily online. The entire experience was very pleasant-from the personal interaction with the staff to the excellent food. Comfortable, quaint, and upscale: Midtown Cafe does not disappoint."
