Diner Reviews
  • "Went there to celebrate a birthday and enjoy a great steak. All the boxes were ticked. I also like the fact that it is off the main strip in Key West. A far more discerning dinner is to be found there."

  • "We absolutely loved our dinner. It was our 16th anniversary and Michael's helped to make this a memorable one. The Mahi Macadamia was one of the best dinners I've ever had. My wife noted her Chicken Penne was delicious and the Chocolate Volcano Cake should be declared illegal it was so good! Service was impeccable and the 12 year old rum was a great finish to a wonderful experience. We will be back during our next trip."

  • "Great restaurant nestled in a nice neighborhood just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Duval street. Very nice covered outdoor bar and dining area, with a comfortable and elegant indoor dining area. Wine selections are paired very well with the selections on the menue. Food was great. Michael's is on top of our list for restaurant's in Key West."

  • "We had our farewell dinner in Key West. Sat outside in the enclosed garden. Had nice table by a little fountain. Temperature was perfect so if it was hot, I would suggest you sit inside. Michaels is not near the water and garden enclosed to no significant breeze. Our waiter was delightful. The food was excellent including all dishes, appetizers and desserts. One great dish after another. Not just seafood here as Michaels offers more quality variety than other restaurants we went while in the Keys We just had a great time and would recommend Michaels for any occasion."

  • "Had Michael's recommended to us (been going to Key West for over 12 years for 3-5 days) and there's no question this is the best beef place in town! Awesome in all respects!"

  • "Exceptional for the service, personal attention and ambiance..."

  • "We had heard that this was one of the best restaurants to go to and it fell short of our expectations. We waited way too long for our food while watching several other tables receiving their food. When you are on vacation with limited evenings, waiting that long was not acceptable. Unfortunately the food and the ambiance was not outstanding enough to overcome the impression we now have."

  • "The veal chop was the best I ever tasted. The Roquefort-topped filet was as good as I remembered when they first opened. The volcano chocolate dessert is another reason to keep us coming back."

  • "Michaeal's was very dissapointing! It had been recommended so we were looking forward to the experience. 4 meals, 1 was enjoyed the other 3 were dissatisfying. From overcooked fish, to cold vegatables and potatoes. Award winning veal was not any better then what I can buy and prepare myself from Whole Foods. The only item worth a mentuon was the chocolate souffle. Expensive and dissapointing, avoid this restaurant."

  • "This place is so old school and in need of serious updating, from the menu to the music to the hideous decor. I can't understand why this was recommended to us. Maybe its fans are people who haven't been out in 20 years."

  • "Michael's never fails to please whether it's for a special occasion or just a casual dinner. Dinner sitting at the bar is the best spot in KW. You meet the nicest people."

  • "Key West old town house converted to restaurant. Superb food and amibiance. Creative menu with wonderful fresh fish selections. Dynamite deserts. Great place for a date. Easy to talk."

  • "Michael's is a favorite haunt of ours while visiting in KW the month of March. We generally eat there several times. This last time it was after a sunset cruise so we requested the small plates. Some of us had the signature fish dish and others had meat. All of us enjoyed our meals and appreciated this option for eating later in the evening. We are certain to return next year."

  • "We did not just happen upon this restaurant. It came highly recommended and for good reason. They are known for their steaks but have excellent seafood too. French onion soup delicious. Filet one of their specialties and was delicious. Reservations a must - several days in advance if you can do it."

  • "The restaurant's away from Duvall Street, so it's in a nice, quiet, area. We had 5:30 reservations and were seated immediately. Our server, Kristi, had a great personality and was excellent. We both ordered salads to start. The house salad w/lemon vinaigrette was very good as was the antipasti type salad w/creamy parmesan dressing. The dressings are made in house. Our main courses were mahi-mahi and veal saltimbocca. They both came with a seasoned rice and julienned squash. Both meals were outstanding. The veal saltimbocca was tender and topped w/prosciutto, sliced heirloom, yellow tomatoes, and manchengo cheese. We highly recommend dining here when in Key West. We certainly will again."

  • "I have walked by this restaurant any nights during my Key West visits. Tonight the four of us dined on fabulous meals, which we spilt! Kim was our server. Kim was outstanding! There is inside and outside seating as well as bar seating. We returned again for fondue at the captains table, strongly suggest! Do not walk by this restaurant, it was awesome."

  • "Spent an evening at Michael's since we heard it was a favorite of the locals. Food was good (Veal Porterhouse Special was very good and an unusual entree). The food was well presented and prepared. The high of the evening was the appetizer of scallops with a port reduction. That was one of the tastiest treats of our week in Key West. The service was so good as to be almost too much with numerous visits from our server. Seated on time in the outside patio at the rear of the restaurant near the bar. The tables were well spaced to give privacy. The cost was as much as we paid for our meal at Latitudes with their beautiful beachfront tables so we probably would opt in the future (for these prices) to eat at either Louie's or Latitudes."

  • "Steaks are supposed to be great but we figured we are in the Keys - so all about seafood. My husband and I both very happy with our entrees. (Swordfish and sushi-grade Tuna). Corn and crab chowder was good - but not great. The lava cake was amazing. Best ever. Good wine selection. Unfortunately, we were seated inside, which is a pretty bare and uninspired room. The patio is lovely. Next time I'll book earlier to make sure we can be seated outside."

  • "We had a recommendation from a friend in Massachusetts. We had a little difficulty finding Michaels, because we were on foot and our iPhone was not helping us. We knew immediately upon arriving at Michaels that it was all worth it. It is a very pretty, quiet atmosphere, which we love. My husband had the veal chop, which he said was the best he ever had. I ordered a Tuna which had a Asian flare. It was delicious. Please give Michaels a try we know you will be happy."

  • "Scallops were amazing with really fresh julienne vegetables. Wait staff was responsive for our need to make a ferry on time. We were sat at a dismal table but when we asked for a change they were accommodating. I loved it."

  • "Loved the bar area, however we had to eat in the restaurant area which looked a little dated (e.g., carpet looked like it was from the early eighties). A few simple cosmetic changes could make the restaurant area as nice as the bar area."

  • "Compared to last year, this year's dining experience was disappointing - three out of four meals were pretty tasteless - all were fish entrees."
    Dined on 3/5/2014
  • "The hostess was wonderful. Our server lacked a personality and acted a bit superior. (Don't you hate that!) My fish was very fresh, grilled and served at room temp...not intended. The others in my party had the same...food was not hot! Items that were sauced or otherwise required culinary ability to prepare fell flat. We opted out of dessert course because food was not special."

  • "Michaels is located in heart of Old Town in great historic and charming neighborhood. Would highly recommend walking or taking bike taxi to restraunt to enjoy historic homes and streets of KW. We had a wonderful dining experience at Michaela eating under he stars in backyard patio in private bamboo fenced enclave. Had amazing service and meals enjoying spicey tomato bisque, followed by filet and smoked chicken penne entree's. Awesome food and dining experience and definitely recommend!"

  • "Michael's is always a favorite restaurant of ours when we make our annual trek to Key West. Have been there a dozen or so times to enjoy the great food and outside atmosphere. We recommend making a reservation during the busy season (March), as this is a popular place."

  • "We've been going to Michael's for years, every time we visit Key West. It was recommended to us by a shop owner on Duval Street just weeks after they opened in 1997. The food is always excellent."

  • "In a small city with at least one hundred restaurants to choose from, Michaels is definitely one of the best. The food and its presentation are always excellent. The staff is knowledgeable and pleasant. I have never been dissatisfied with a meal here, and neither have my companions."

  • "Some out of friends were visiting last week and wanted to go the "restaurant that my wife and I are always telling them about" - Michaels of course! We took them on a Wednesday night and they were not disappointed. We started the evening with a round of martinis (Hendrik Gin is our favorite) and had a bottle of chardonnay - the Chamisal un-oaked. Our guest Joan and I both ordered from the "light side menu" - Chicken and Crab Imperial for both or us. My wife and Ed both ordered from the regular menu and had the Snapper Meuniere. The only disagreement of the whole evening was who had the best meal!"

  • "My salad was very good. My 8 oz filet mignon, which is what Michael's is supposed to be known for, was overcooked and dry. I ordered medium rare and it came medium well. Plus, the meat itself was not tasty. A guy at the next table had the same complaint, overcooked. Won't top back to Michael's. Too many better options in Key West."

  • "We wish this restaurant was in our neighborhood, we would be there every week, unfortunately we only get to visit once a year while on vavcation at our time share. It never dissapoints, all aspects are fabulous. We are already looking forward to next year! The steaks & chops are great. A hidden gem is the meatloaf, believe it! Thanks, Michael's"
