Michael's Genuine Food & Drink
Great place with excellent foodGoing back for more. The food was great and the service was to par. We will be retuning to try other delicious creations.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBest pastrami in town. Don'tBest pastrami in town. Don't miss it in lunch menu5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Food & Serv- but SNOBBISHEvery time I eat here I love the food, and usually appreciate the service. This time was no exception. However, the bullies that work the reservation/front door are bullish and not nice. They act as if they have blue blood- so why are you working the hostess station?5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly issue experienced wasOnly issue experienced was a lack of update on the wine list leading to some confusion and led to me just settling for the wine I didn't order. I was dining with my mother and she likes wines with slight residual sugar. Initially, I ordered the Donnhoff, Nahe, with no vineyard designation, but described as med-sweet or something along those lines on the wine list. The wine that arrived was the Donnhoff Trocken. Understandable. Next, I ordered the Huet Le Haut-Lieu Demi-Sec. The wine that arrived the Sec, not the demi-sec. Having already received our first round of food 10 minutes prior, I just accepted that wine as we didn't want to wait any longer. Also, asked server for desert wines, and she couldn't locate where they are listed.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGenuinely GoodLoved the food, lots of vegetarian choices, great service, very friendly hostess. Felt welcomed and liked our table location in quieter area. the rest of the restaurant was very noisy and loud but at our table we could easily talk. Will come back soon.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMMichaels GenuinePhenomenal experience. Despite doing a brisk business, we were treated efficiently and respectfully by all staff, and the food exceeded our already high expectations. Every phase, from the appetizers to the after dinner coffee, reflected a consistent attention to detail and adherence to including only ingredients of the finest quality. I cannot recommend enthusiastically enough.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMVisit MichaelsA must-go if you want to see what locals do for having an outstanding thursday night.
Brian and Roberto (somelier and waiter) adopted us like the Miami newborns we are, and guided us through magnificent wine and food.
I will never tell my mother I had Pig Ears, but I did and hope you do when you go here. The Pork belly was great, the ceviche was also very good, but maybe the greatest surprise of the night was the dessert: a combination of chocolates, with coconut and sea salt: really out of this world. If you are a dessert fan, go for this. And if you are not, go for this anyway.
The neighborhood is evolving in a remarkable way. being this Street a mini NY 5th Av. or 57th St, with Prada, Gucci and Louis Vouitton stores among others.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good MealMy mom came to visit, and I wanted to take her somewhere special but casual. She's a vegetarian and loves fresh ingredients. I decided on Michael's. We went on a Monday night. Asked for outside and got seated right away. Our server explained the way their portions work and we made our selections. Mom was happy with her vegetarian choices even with mostly meat on the menu. I had a delecious pizza topped with octopus, chorizo, peppers, parsley. Service was prompt and polite all around, and food was delicious. Glad I listened to everyone who told me how great this place is.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMJust as I imaginedThis is an outstanding restaurant, my congratulations to chef Michael. The restaurant decoration is beautiful and the music was really smooth. The only thing that made me a little bit unconfortable was that the tables for two that are inside the restaurant are too close from one another. So I had to eat elbow to elbow with another guy. I recommend that if you are going as a party of two ask for a table outside which is just as beautiful as the inside.
I ate a well done black angus hamburger and it was a little bit dry so I recommend you to ask for a medium well one better! The french fries are really tasty!
The service was pretty good too, not the best but I was really amazed by the restaurant's ambiance that I really didn't mind.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place never disappoints. This place never disappoints. A delight!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen over a year since ourBeen over a year since our last visit, as we have been trying out new places, but Michael's is still "Genuine" and never disappoints!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food and great service.Easily one of the best dinners I have had in a long time. They forgot to bring out our appetizer which was kind of a bummer, but because they let the manager know right away what had happened he came to our table, apologized, and offered us a dessert which I thought was excellent and tasted superb as well. So all in all the experience was good and we will definitely be going back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat tasting food. A littleGreat tasting food. A little different how they operate compared to most other places but overall, a great experience.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMIt is dog friendly and I doIt is dog friendly and I do not appreciate animals where I eat.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had heard about Michael'sWe had heard about Michael's awhile back in Anthony Bourdain's Layover in Miami. We were excited to check it out when we were in town, and we're delighted that we did! Everyone from the hostess to our server to busboys were especially gracious and welcoming. The food was appropriately portioned and divided into snacks, small, medium, large and extra large plates so that it was easy for the two of us to share a variety of dishes on the menu. We ordered the pig ears, deviled eggs, duck confit, pork belly, short ribs, pompano, and the passionfruit ice cream and donuts for dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection, but the short ribs were especially delicious and tender. We also really enjoyed the donuts with the passionfruit ice cream.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly place with greatFriendly place with great food. Liked that they had several options at several price ranges. Also, small options for dessert, like the homemade cookies, were nice for someone who just wanted a little taste of something sweet.
Wing appetizer was good, but could have used a litle more kick. Chicken liver crostini good, but could have used more caramelized onions. Rock shrimp salad delicious and had plenty of shrimp, but could have used more avocado, papaya and macademias. Also, the salad was a little stem-my. But overall, very good; we will definitely be back.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful spot in the DesignWonderful spot in the Design District. The restaurant creates a hip vibe that easily attracts the desired cool "kids". The crowd was a mixed bag from young to old, T's to jackets. We were sat right away with reservations and service was great. Never had to ask for anything as they were always checking up on us. Food was a mixed bag homegrown foods packed with flavor. Would highly recommend.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMiami has really limited optionsMiami has really limited options for organic and hormone free food. Michael's has it all!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMichaels was hopping on aMichaels was hopping on a Saturday afternoon. We were lost and late, but called ahead and they graciously held our table for us. Our service was excellent, the food delicious. The presentation lacked a bit of finesse, but the quality and flavors were excellent. It's really the only game in the Design District.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ate there in early April,We ate there in early April, 2013 and enjoyed excellent food...Penne and salads were our choice,
and were among our all time best choices for neighborhood bistros.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing EveningTook my father for a special dinner before a jazz concert; made for a great memory. Hip atmosphere, eclectic food options with a variety of plate sizes fit for sharing. We tried the duck pâté (delicious) and the olive plate (great variety) to start. We split the dry aged bone in Ribeye (mouthwatering) and escarole as a side dish (tasty). We ordered a great Red Zinfandel to drink and then had one of Hedde Goldsmith's legendary desserts. Our waiter Brandon was very friendly, attentive and professional. Highly recommend MGFD.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAll-round excellent experience.All-round excellent experience. Also exceptionally good value.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been here several timesI have been here several times and love it. We got the whole fish and for me, its the best option on the menu.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been to Michael's severalWe've been to Michael's several times and the food is always amazing. It was this time too and our table outside was great. As jaded New Yorkers we are well used to a little upselling and since we were taking out of town family for a treat we were not going to say anything but it was over the top in this most recent visit.. It didn't spoil our meal but it was unnecessary.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAuthentic Miami dining....finally!As New Yorkers visiting Miami we were a little disappointed with the Miami food scene. We couldn't find the unique little neighborhood restaurants we are so used to here... and felt bombarded by overpriced places and chains everywhere we went...BUT THEN we found Michael's and found the Miami food experience we were looking for. Delicious food that also gave us a taste of the neighborhood and a sampling of something uniquely Miami. Loved this place and had an incredibly pleasant meal outside under the palm tree.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDestination restaurant...neverDestination restaurant...never fails to be amazing! Food is always incredible, prices are reasonable, and service impeccable.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed their food but wasEnjoyed their food but was surprised by the "small plate" feature.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food we had was excellent. The food we had was excellent. But should be more fish options since it is Lent.
Also, could offer more vegetarian options. Music is definitely too loud both inside
and outside. Almost impossible to talk inside.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMLots of regulars. SittingLots of regulars. Sitting at the bar, we found that the regulars all offered their thoughts on their favorite dishes. The bartenders were helpful on the wine selections, offered good advice on the wines listed and tried hard to make sure that we were satisfied with our choices.
The food selections are offered at many US restaurants but there was obvious care taken with the ingredients and preparation.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMichael's is a consistentlyMichael's is a consistently exceptional restaurant.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI love this place. MiamiI love this place. Miami find and people who "get" the idea of well sourced ingredients creatively prepared. Only complaint: We made a 9:00 pm. reservation and were 10 mins. late (our bad). We then had to wait another 15 mins. for a table, but the waiter hurried our service and we caught our 11:00 pm flight to Rio. Thank you Michaels!!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were visiting from Boston,We were visiting from Boston, and wanted to take our hosts out for a nice dinner - wow! We were so impressed. I have never been to a restaurant that gets better with each visit - but somehow they pull it off!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fantastic. Only disappointFood was fantastic. Only disappointment was the waiter's failure to give special attention to the birthday celebration.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMour first time at this restaurantour first time at this restaurant and we're sorry that it's in Miami and we're in CT. Everything was wonderful. I had a "medium" plate of mussels which were so big and delicious. BLT salad was superb. Desserts are marvelous. We're already planning our next trip to Miami just to eat at Michael's Genuine3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMCauliflower beats Brussel Sprouts!Loved the restaurant and the food except for the brussel sprouts that were a bit charred and tasteless. Maybe a little lemon sauce on the side would go nicely instead of the sauce it came with.
My waiter was phenomenal.....the girls at the front were equally as wonderful and accommodated my bigger than planned reservation.
Maria3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMA Real Find in MiamiWe sat outside in the courtyard since we like quiet. The food was innovative and excellent from beginning to end. Our waiter was helpful suggesting things from the menu since it was our first time and our food arrived in record time since we had alerted him that we had a concert afterward. He even went to the street and hailed us a cab!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMJust always love this restaurant!!!Just always love this restaurant!!!! Great service ,beautiful space and high energy!!!!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMServer was not up to parAs always, Michaels was very good. Our food choices (muscles, steak au poivre, Pork belly) wer all great. This is the first time I have not like the server. Every time he came to the table he was distracted. He wasnt friendly. hi mind was not on us for sure. It made the experience much less than it could have been. Boo for him.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat are you waiting for.If you live in Miami and you haven't gone to this place yet, make a reservation tonight!3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have waited 2 years toWe have waited 2 years to head back to MGFD and we were not disappointed!
