Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is a showcase for the cuisine of Chef/Owner Michael Schwartz, with prices designed to encourage frequent dining. This unpretentious bistro seats 90 indoors and out, with another 14 seats at a handsome bar. Doubling as a casual neighborhood dining spot and a culinary destination, the bright, airy space in Miami’s evolving Design District showcases Schwartz’s trademark new American cuisine at prices designed to encourage frequent dining. Open daily for lunch and dinner, the menu is chock full of choices encouraging everything from a light bite to a multi-course feast. A quick glance at the menu and Michael's intentions for this restaurant are revealed. Notable is the frequency of the word homemade in the descriptions of dishes -- be it pasta, French fries or rabbit terrine. At the same time, Michael's takes advantage of the Chef’s decades-long relationships with winemakers to offer diners the opportunity to try a variety of wines at great value.Continued

  • "This has long been one of my favorite restaurants in Miami. However, this most recent experience was a true disappointment. Our server was somewhat attentive, but not overly so. The menu was not nearly as interesting as it has been in the past. Several dishes contained garlic, but garlic was not listed as an ingredient on the menu. The same was true for other dishes and onions. Why don't restaurants list all of the ingredients on their menu when describing a dish? Kale with lemon zest should taste like kale with lemon zest and not garlic."

  • "This place is definetely made for the foodie. They have an array of interesting plates that are composed of ingredients you would never think would make a dish amazing. My only complaint about this restaurant is the front service. The greeter is usually not very friendly. Everytime I have gone to this restaurant the front service has been either rude, indifferent, or snobby which says nothing about the waiter staff or the food. The service is good and so is the food. A must if you visit Miami."

  • "This "farm to table" restaurant was recommended to us by a NYC woman who takes all her clients here and all her clients have loved it. I didn't think there could be a better endorsement especially bc I am a former NYC gal myself. Well, the food could not have been better. We ordered many different sized dishes and shared them tapas style. It was so amazing! We were both fighting to get the last bite. This is "the original" farm to table restaurant where it all started. Everything was incredibly fresh. The pairings of food (ie. fresh peaches, Barrata mozzarella, basil, infused olive oil and reduced balsalmic) was scentual and scinitillating! It left us wanting more and planning our next visit! The custard doughnut desert is unforgettable!"

  • "My partner and I are massive foodies. When a friend recommended Michael's we prebooked 3 weeks ago from London. I'm pleased to say that we were not disappointed. We ordered the beef and veggie burgers and savoured every mouthful. We don't generally eat bread but the butter and grilled soaked brioche was delicious. For dessert we selected a new dish to the menu, the corn bread and butter pudding with lemon and blueberry compote. We ate this very slowly relishing every mouthful and the light texture this dessert offered. Overall an excellent lunch. Next time we are in Miami we will book dinner to compare the menu."

  • "Michael's gave the best dining experience of our entire vacation, and that is saying something for foodies. The menu was creative, diverse, and everything was very good. Our favorite dish was the pork belly with kimchi, which was an amazing collaboration of flavors. It is a must-have. The fried pig ears were interesting, and we were glad we had them. We sat at the bar with the intent to have a drink or two at happy hour but the bartender, Jason, was so friendly, outgoing, and knowledgeable about both the food and drink options that we happily decided to stay at the bar for our entire meal. Whether a local or just visiting, Michael's is absolutely a must-try place in Miami."

  • "Had heard the chicken was outstanding, so naturally had to order it. What a mistake! It had more salt than anything I can ever remember eating. It was just awful. After we were seated, it took awhile for a wait person to appear. Finally, food was brought in stages by different people. Didn't see the wait person again (to complain, to ask for anything, nothing whatsoever). We were even brought our bill by the hostess! The truth is, I could go on and on, but it is just not worth my time."

Besides the small plates, the waiter said that the other sizes were good for 2 to 3 people. We just ordered as we went along and that worked out well. It was fun grazing on different items.   • "We heard so much about this restaurant and were surprised that it met most of the chatter. The wait staff was friendly and did a great job. Luckily, we were able to enjoy the outdoor ambience and that added to making this experience more romantic. I feel it was a bit overpriced. However, being where they are located, I guess that is the reasoning behind it. I feel the desserts were too small for $6, yet they were delicious. I'd go back, but only for the less expensive lunch menu. Marc was an excellent waiter. Every waiter helped each other out too which was nice to see. I like the energy too. It was fun."

  • "I've been to Michael's many times and they always have really great food and plan on being a returning customer as long as I live in Miami. This recent trip was no exception. The only moderately negative thing I would say is that there seems to have been a dip in server quality over the last few months. Maybe I've caught a stroke of bad luck with servers. This is also note to say the service was bad, just not the quality I've came to expect. "

Everything we ate was delicious: hominy (such a tasty snack), tomato salad with beets, green beans, and hearts of palm, hangar steak (although I panicked when our server set it down and called it lamb), pork, short ribs, and salad. Sadly there was no sampling of the coconut cream pie (only thing sold out on the menu!). Our server seemed to be less than personable, but the rest of the staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. It's a bustling spot and great place to take out of town guests to show them all the awesome things in Miami besides what they know from Miami Vice. "

  • "Needing to meet a colleague for lunch near I-95 somewhere between MIA airport and Miami beach, we selected this restaurant purely off of the map due to it's central location - How fortunate we were to have found such a gem! Michael's in in the design district, in a courtyard with both indoor and covered outdoor seating options. With eclectic and fresh food and drink choices (salads, sandwiches, seafood and burgers), there was plenty to choose from. Many of the food options appear to be locally sourced - Upon our visit, there were many peach-themed dishes and drinks. Prices were reasonable. Valet parking right in front was convenient. Overall, this was a terrific experience."
