Michael SmithLooking ForwardWe always look forward to our dinners at Micheal Smith's.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe BestMichael Smith is one of the finest chef's in the country in my opinion. He is innovative beyond his years. The wine list at Michael Smith's is also one of the finest in Kansas City and comparable to top-notch wine lists across the country. Exquisite dinning experiences at Michael Smith's. Rob is also one of the finest wait-staff I've ever had the chance to be served by. Well done team Smith.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWarm asparagus soup was GREAT.Warm asparagus soup was GREAT. The poached seafood salad was excellent5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliantWe've been to Michael Smith now a half dozen times and the chef never fails to present a food experience that delights. The best aspect is that the kitchen adheres to the single greatest rule of thumb: to prepare dishes that are appealing and delightful and *classically* delicious, while introducing combinations of ingredients that are often surprising and brilliant. But these variations never involve juxtaposing nutty, inappropriate ingredients (as some supposedly avant-garde chefs tend to do.) As foodies who lived in NYC for decades, we never miss what is back East, when we're at M.S.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe found the staff very helpfulWe found the staff very helpful when it came to understanding the menu features and appropriate wine pairings, especially given my personal food sensitivities. Because of the relative size of the restaurant, each table had a great window view of the downtown area. Perfect for a romantic meal or time with close friends.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVery cosmopolitan, frequentlyVery cosmopolitan, frequently changing gourmet menu, outstanding waitstaff.
KC is fortunate to have a restaurant of this caliber.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMichael Smith continues toMichael Smith continues to prepare eclectic meals. It is one of our favorite restaurants.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food. Was excellent andThe food. Thanks for a great dinner, wonderful wine - great advice on the wine from our server. Just GREAT!!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was fantastic, butThe food was fantastic, but the service did not meet the level of expectation one would expect at a restaurant such as this. My husband and I never dined here before. Upon being seated our server: never introduced himself, never asked if we ever dined at the establishment, or ever offer to explain the menu. In fact, when we were first seated, I thought our server was the person who just filled our water. Our server never checked on us as we dined throughout the evening. He did keep our drinks filled though. I would go back for the food or order out.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMsimple, elegant, relativelysimple, elegant, relatively quiet, with great service, excellent food, and enviable wine list.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBest of KC!Michael Smith is my favorite restaurant in KC. I have been many times over the last two years. My fiance and I had the duck and pork loin on this occasion and they were two of our favorites. I particularly like duck, but the way this was prepared was absolutely fantastic. We had the Oxtail appetizer which melts in your mouth. I also highly recommend the gnocchi appetizer or side, the are delicious. There are often groupons for Michael Smith which makes the prices more manageable. I also enjoy their wine list, even their 30 dollar bottles of wines we have tried has been great. Overall an outstanding experience every time!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful as alwaysAs always Michael Smith's did not disappoint. Still our favorite restaurant in town. I love when they have scallops on the menu and with the menu always changing, you are always in for a treat.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery time we have gone toEvery time we have gone to Michael Smith's the experience has been delightful. Hint: If parking is hard to find, send someone inside for directions to 2 available lots. It is also within walking distance of the Kaufman Center for Performing arts.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic! Very busy eveningFantastic! Very busy evening yet food and service were spot-on! Tables are pretty close together which leaves me wondering if the table next to us was as interested in our conversation as we were. This won't stop me from going again....unless a very private conversation is necessary.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent menu, food was superb,Excellent menu, food was superb, service was outstanding. Great dining experience.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was outstanding -The food was outstanding - it always is. Small but interesting menu. I took to MS to give them that big city dining experience. MS could challenge ANY restaurant in bigger cities. KC is lucky to have a talented, creative chef.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother exceptional mealMichael Smith's provided another exceptional meal with outstanding service.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been there a few timesI've been there a few times now and it's always consistently delicious. I'm gluten-free and while there aren't as many options for me as I'd like, the ones available have been first rate. I would like to see more gluten-free desserts, as there are so many possibilities without needing to make special substitutions.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed our lunch veryWe enjoyed our lunch very much. My husband especially liked the Campo Lindo Chicken entree. I ordered the Flank steak and was disappointed with the tough texture of the steak, so returned the dish for the chicken. The wait staff was very helpful and accommodating with food allergies. We returned for dinner the next night looking forward to trying other options and ready for the larger dinner portions our server mentioned. If this were a rating for that dinner it would be a lower grade. We ordered the mixed green salads again for dinner and the portions were just about half of the lunch salad. We were left dinner overall disappointed compared to our lunch experience.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent dining experience!Excellent dining experience! Great food and service.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on a recent WednesdayWe went on a recent Wednesday evening and the food and the service were great. Because it was a Wednesay, it was "Wine Night" which meant we were able to get a bottle of wine for what would normally be the cost of 2 glasses, which was nice. The menu had lots of fantastic looking options and we were both pleased with our choices. Great flavors and textures and everything was perfectly prepared. And the portions were just right -- which is to say, they were suitably filling and not just two bites of food on top of an artistically drizzled vegetable puree (which is the nagging fear many of us have about an upscale restaurant).3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding. WeFood was outstanding. We tried several different items off the menu and were not disappointed. Great date night!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, we both hadExcellent food, we both had the lobster bisque and three sister salad. Both were very tasty. wife had the rabbit that was awesome. i had the scallops which were good. only let down was the dessert (pistachio ice cream). will go again.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMichael Smith never disappoints!Michael Smith never disappoints! Its a great mix of being a "nice" restaurant, but not stuffy - in fact, its a relaxing and friendly atmosphere. We always get the "chef's selection", where we just tell them how many courses we would like, and be surprised with what will be prepared. As always, the food was excellent, and fun to try to determine what's in each dish. The bill may restrict us from going everyday, but the food and experience is worth every penny.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service wereThe food and service were awesome as usual. Excellect dining experience.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Pierogies and weWonderful Pierogies and we had the red snapper- every bite the taste exploded in our mouth. And, the rabbit gnocchi continues to be an all time favorite. Overall, a wonderful way to spend an evening.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen friends come to townWhen friends come to town from DC, NYC, etc..we always take them to Michael Smith..always! a great success! It is genuine, sophisticated, gentle, attentive and not overbearing staff who meet our needs with grace and ease. It is in a neat downtown KC neighbourhood with easy parking and/or walking distance from offices etc.

Everything we ordered (drinks and food - starter, entrees and desserts) was prepared and presented beautifully. We enjoyed every bite!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFodd is excellent. ServiceFodd is excellent. Service is very good. I highly recommend the Red Snapper entre. It is topped with a light grapefuite salad and rests atop a bed of lentils. The portion is a bit small, but the flavor is very nice. My wife had the stuffed duck leg or something like that. It was very good. The rabbit gnochi appetizer is very good, but watch out for BONES.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMServing portions were small.Serving portions were small. My pork tenderloin was cold in the middle. On the expensive side. Romantic atmosphere, and attentive service.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMone of the best in kcmomichael smith's food and staff are one of my all-time favorites. the food is excellent, the ambience is nice and the staff is as good as they come. plus, you can head to the sister bar next door if you are inclined.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMichael Smith is consistentlyMichael Smith is consistently one of the best restaurants in KC. sweetbreads, one of our favorite items, was on the appetizer menu. what a treat!!
my husband is a creature of habit and usually gets the 8hr pork but decided, based on our waitress's recommendation, to try the stuffed duck. excellent!!
my scallops and risotto were wonderful.
my cousin enjoyed the sword fish.
delightful evening and the groupon made it very affordable.2/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent meal and service.Excellent meal and service. Will definitely be back.2/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLove it!We absolutely love eating at Michael Smith. The food never disappoints & we enjoy the atmosphere. It was nice to even see Chef Michael out and about setting tables and helping the restaurant run smoothly. You must try the braised rabbit (we get it every time we go) - it is absolutely wonderful and has such a decadent flavor. Service was attentive but not obtrusive to our evening. Tables are a bit close, so don't plan on too much privacy, but it can certainly be overlooked based solely on the food one is served. Absolutely amazing & we cannot wait until our next dining experience at Michael Smith.2/9/2013 12:00:00 AMInitial Dining ExperienceMy wife and I had a great dining experience. We will dine here again.2/9/2013 12:00:00 AMwe had a friend in from texaswe had a friend in from texas who was lucky enough to be in town during restaurant week.
i did request a secluded corner spot which was graciously granted.
we'd been seated there in warmer weather and i'd enjoyed the intimacy of it. this time in the cold of winter, it was uncomfortable. the freezing air leaks through the window creating a breeze in the corner. brrrr.
the food, as usual was outstanding.
so exciting that the 8 hr pork was part of the choices for prix fixe. so very yummy.
all three of us had virtually the same meal: the pork tortellini, the 8 hr pork and the apple/pecan bread pudding.
so fabulous.
my husband had the chocolate dessert offering and agreed the bread pudding was far superior.1/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMS is consistently delicious.MS is consistently delicious.
