It was a thorough disaster. The best moment was the greeting by the hostess. Then came a pretentious sommelier with a condescending manner and a wine suggestion that did not come close to the profile we asked for, then a 45 minute wait for a starters which were ordinairy. We had to flag down a bus person to inform them of the wine. Another 30 minutes until the mezzo course arrived. The tortelloni were tough, dry and rubbery, adorned with burned broccoli flowerettes. Another 45 minutes before the main courses arrived. We decided to leave and cut our losses. Some of the wait staff felt badly, but not a single one of them checked in with us, as is customary in restaurants of this caliber. Not sure what's up or should we say down at MM.

For such a classy highend place the music was so distracting. If they want to play music like that they should open a dance club for 20 year olds. My husband and I will not come back.

I took my sister out for her birthday lunch, and had a wonderful time with the four-course tasting menu. It actually ended up being five including dessert: the hamachi with apple puree, kale and beet salad, roasted dorado, crispy chicken breast, and bourbon cream. The dishes were all very good and accompanied by the colorful and flavorful extracts, reductions, and purees you would expect. Also, a pleasantly-surprising amount of vegetables accompanied the fish and meat. However, be aware of time; we asked beforehand and were told the tasting menu would take "under an hour", but it ended up being much longer.

I enjoyed the dueling menu very much. However, my wine pairing was mostly of California wines, and I prefer European. It would have been nice to have a choice between "Old world" and "New world" selections. Also, I loved the ambiance of the old Michael Mina in the Westin St. Francis- white table cloths and ultra thin-stemmed wine glasses along with the classy formal dishware.

The ambiance is great, it has all the trappings of a classy spot, but the food was only ok. So for what you get, I'd say it's really overpriced. Also, there is no description of meat sourcing, which is a really important aspect for feeling great about a great meal.

I chose Michael Mina (2nd visit) for a family dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday with our son and her sister in part because the proximity to BART. We were seated on time, with appetizers coming within 30 minutes or so. But then everything came to a halt. After about 40 minutes, I asked the hostess to check on our entrees. Report: they were being plated and would be out in "5 to 6 minutes." After 10 minutes, the waiter reported "5 minutes more." The manager 10 minutes later to say "5 more minutes". This time our dinners did arrive--more cold than hot. Being a school night, it was too late send dishes back. The excuse: it was a large party (8)--but they knew we were coming. Not at all what I expect from a top-rated restaurant.

What a nice restaurant to have a very good meal with your friends. This is my second time to Michael Mina and the meal was as good as the first time. The food, service and ambiance was really outsranding. I felt if I was in a very good restaurant of my own town, Montreal. you can be sure that, during my next trip to SF, I will make a reservation to Michael Mina. It's a must if you want to enjoy a very good dining in SF.

The food was amazing and especially the presentation. Took pictures of everything and even after a few bites. But, the dessert sample/tasting menu was the star for me, okay I loved dessert. The varieties, a few Chef specials, that I actually got full from too much dessert! What a wonderful experience. Thank you Michael Mina and especially your staff, they are the best. 1 more on my bucket list, checked

I don't expect speedy service here but I do expect good service, as well as mindfulness that a business luncheon shouldn't drag on for 2 hours. Add to that basic mistakes such as being served the wrong plate and having to ask for bread three times as well as having to chase someine down to pay our check, and I start to feel embarrassed for bringing my clients here.

I had been dying to try Michael Mina! I am not sure I'd go back. The food was very good as was the wine but I really thought the portions were on the very small size for the price. With so many small plates options in San Francisco I think I'd rather go with one of those. Overall though, it was very good and the service was great. Just cant shake the feeling that it was a bit over priced.

We came here for a b-day dinner on a Sat night. There was a b-day card from the staff on the table which was very nice and much appreciated. For dinner, we ordered the suckling pig & seafood risotto as starting courses. Then we got Liberty farm duck and the black cod. Everything was great except for the black cod which was only so-so. We also got the dessert flight which consists of ~5 different dessert per person. It was something good to try once but would not order again b/c it's just too much sweets all at once. They forgot to put a candle on the dessert but overall service was still very nice and water never sat half filled for more than 2mins or so. Would definitely dine at Michael Mina again

We were surrounded by true foodies absolutely enjoying the 9 course 'Ketto' Menu. We ordered off the menu and thought we might regret our choice as we watched dish upon dish being served. Quite the contrary, our meals were sublime! The service was perfect; friendly, informative. The atmosphere was lovely. Michael Mina is now a favorite.

Two years ago we enjoyed a wonderful meal at Michael Mina, then a sophisticated and trendy restaurant. My experience this week was walking in at 6:30 into a scene with many empty tables--a surprise! While food was still wonderful, the decibel level from the bar crowd was so ridiculous that we had to yell at each other to be heard. For the price you pay (with a WAY over-priced wine list) we would have expected a wonderful evening. Management seemed sympathetic but were "helpless" to fix the problem. Apparently, they are planning a new renovation in October to specifically address the noise issue. Hope it works, but I for one likely won't be there to experience it, such was the overall "flop" and my disappointment in my special evening.

We had nice drinks, then appetizers, wine, then Entrees. 3 guests. Mine: King salmon. $48. Portion was unusually small. Maybe 4/5 bites. I asked waiter if normal portion. He said yes it was six ounces. ( neither of us had a scale at moment. ) He seemed genuinely interested in making me happy. He offered an accompaniment. I go with the tartare. It was quick. Bill came. He charged me for 3 tartare. We only ordered one earlier as an appetizer for another guest. He seemed to too quickly recognize his mistake. He then charged me for two. I expected ( rightly or wrongly ) not to be charged for the accompaniment with my salmon. ( bringing grand total for my salmon entree to $68 ). Unusual approach I gave good tip anyway.

My husband and I were very disappointed in the service. We got there at 7:30 for our 7:45 reservation and were seated immediately and we ordered the 9 course menu. The food was wonderful but the time between courses was inordinately long. A couple came in 45 minutes after us and ordered the same menu and they were serving them the 9 courses before us. We did not order anything other then the 9 courses so why they got service before us is a mystery. We knew 9 courses would take a while but the timing was crazy, we waited 25 minutes for some of the courses then the fowl and meat course came within 5 of each other. I would hesitate to come back with this kind of service. Or I guess avoid Friday nights.

We were VERY disappointed. After informing waiter of a severe stone fruit allergy, I was quite surprised to have stone fruits served on 2 of the dishes (stone fruit not mentioned in the dishes' descriptions). We had an heirloom tomato salad that was pedestrian at best; the tomatoes were far from ripe. My lobster potpie, a signature dish @ $70, was supposed to be made from the meat of a 1 1/2 lb. lobster. I needed a microscope to find the meat. Best part of the meal was their bread. I would not return.

I'd heard about this place for years as it's often referred to as a top restaurant in SF, but based on my recent experience there I can't agree. There too many places where I've had a much better experience. The Asian influenced menu was interesting enough, but not that memorable although the food was prepared well. However, the service was disappointing for a place at this price-point....spilled items, a hair found in the food, over-zealous buss staff who kept trying to clean plates before we were both done, etc. with so many superior options in SF I'd be hard-pressed to come back.
