MICHAEL MINAOne of my favorites!FINALLY got to try this restaurant, and I can't say enough great things about it! We absolutely LOVED our time there. We opted for the nine-course tasting menu with wine pairings, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Each course and each wine was superb. Thank you for such an amazing time!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing ServiceWe were thrilled by the near-perfect service. We went to Michael Mina to celebrate our son's graduation from 5th grade. He is a picky eater and the waiters went out of their way to accommodate his needs in many ways. This gracious attitude, combined with the unusual and beautifully presented food creations, made this a delightful dining experience. We also had a clear sense that all the staff had immense pleasure and pride working in this restaurant.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOur best in San FranciscoWow! La qualité de la nourriture et du service est exceptionnelle. Si vous aimez les poissons préparés avec raffinement, ce restaurant est pour vous! Et le service est très attentionné et chaleureux!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious Food, Great Service.I went to Michael Mina for a business lunch and was pleasantly pleased with the quality of the food and service - the staff did everything properly. The skirt steak was cooked wonderfully and the sauce accompanying the steak was the perfect compliment to the dish. The restaurant is certainly not budget friendly but if that is not a high priority for you, I highly recommend it for the delicious food and great service.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMissing the roots.A homecoming to the old Aqua location from the St. Francis resulted in a mildly disappointing evening. First the great: wine list & sommelier - she guided us gently, enthusiastically and, in the end, correctly; highlight of the evening. Started by having to ask for and waiting a long time for a small single slice of toast served with an obnoxious honey butter mix (?!). Food items were good themselves but each was muddled by a strange and unwelcome mix of other components, e.g. shiso leaves, cherries (? - our servers didn't know either) that added nothing. This was true for both simple and more complex dishes. Seemed like the kitchen was trying too hard to differentiate itself. All in all a great time - attributable largely to the wine.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA favorite of mine for lunch.A favorite of mine for lunch. The food is always first rate. The ambiance is perfect for quiet conversation. The service is just right.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMout with friendsa great time to chat, catch up, and enjoy delicious food and drinks with impeccable service5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousGreat food, comfortable, semi-formal atmosphere, excellent service! Hosted a business dinner here and everyone was very happy with the food and paid complements on selecting the restaurant.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a treat! We were celebrating a significant birthday of a friend, and Michael Mina's was the perfect host. The food was fabulous and the attention from all was just perfect. Not too much attention so it was annoying, but enough that we knew we were getting exceptional service. I highly recommend MM for the food, the fun and the service.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat serviceI enjoyed my meal at Michael Mina. The food was good - it is better than some other Michelin 2-star restaurants in San Francisco so I was surprised that MM is only a 1-star restaurant. Services were great!
My only constructive feedback is that the tables are really close to each other. The people next to our table were fighting the whole time and it was kind of awkward to listen to their conversation while we were trying to enjoy our dinner.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingAmazing! We took the chef's Keto Menu it was just perfect! Impecable!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for special eveningFood was some of the best in San Francisco from appetizers to dessert. The restaurant went out of its way to help us celebrate our anniversary including a personal hand written note on the table when we arrived. It is nice to know that some restaurants still believe in hospitality and deliver on the food.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the BestLast time there was a few years ago at the last location. Great decor. Food was as excellent as anticipated. Lamb was perfect. Great staff in front and back of house. Can't do much better than this place.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMService and food was excellent.Service and food was excellent. Food is always excellent, this is the second time we were there in two years.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMReliably fantasticThis is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco--it is reliable with excellent food and wine list. Their signature dishes remain just that--signature in a way that can not be copied by other high end restaurants. I highly recommend this location for both business dinners and personal social events. The valet parking which starts at 5:30 p.m. is also very convenient.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMichael MinaAll in all, an interesting and worthwhile food experience. Service and friendliness were impeccable. Menus are extensive and complicated to a newcomer. Appropriate time is taken to educate and answer questions. Wine list is overwhelming in two ways-choice and cost! Surprised that some of the wines were not available.
Ah, the food! Overall, an interesting, unique and effective use of ingredients and taste comprising a delightful and satisfying meal.
The duck was extraordinary, and appetizers were all standouts. Disappointed by the quality of the black angus beef; cut was too fatty. Portions are not large, but the food is so rich, it's appropriate. Value for money is on far edge, but would recommend as a one time experience.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDining Out as TheaterMy party assembled at Michael Mina at our reservation time, 6:30 p.m., and didn't leave until nearly 9:45!! At no point did we feel hurried, once the whole party was seated. Courses arrived in a leisurely way, each beautifully arranged; food as art! We had plenty of time to enjoy everything, and for a good visit.
I was particularly pleased and impressed at how quickly and unobtrusively the servers picked up on the allergies of one diner. He had gluten and lactose sensitivity, and they adjusted his courses appropriately without ever saying anything.
When I opened the bill, I was surprised at how little it was, given the level of service and quality. It wasn't inexpensive, but it was worth the money.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply the best!I eat out a lot and consider myself well informed about food and wine. I had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. I was on a business trip and dined alone. From the moment I walked in I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. I was seated at a perfect table near a window. Server and captain (Giovanni) checked repeatedly but unobtrusively to make sure I was happy with everything. And what a meal! From my specialty cocktail to my last sip of desert wine every taste was extraordinary. I won't list all the dishes since every single bite including the bread was an indication that nothing leaves that kitchen unless it is perfect.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMService, while friendly, isService, while friendly, is slower than it should be.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMwe had a lovely dining experience.we had a lovely dining experience. the service was excellent, the food was fantastic and the ambiance was lovely.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA very pleasant place withA very pleasant place with a extraordinary service. We had a very good time, but despite the perfectly prepared and presented dishes, the meals were not as tasty as the price would suggest.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible Dining ExperienceThe food, cocktails, wine list, and service were beyond compare. Our table enjoyed the 9-course tasting menu with wine pairings, which we all highly recommend.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall, excellent choiceOverall, excellent choice for a special occasion. Pricey as expected but food and service were both outstanding. Staff is very attentive and takes care of you.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding as UsualMichael Mina continues to provide an outstanding dining experience. The 9-course Ketto menu was incredible!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply put, Michael Mina isSimply put, Michael Mina is one of the very best restaurants in SF. This was our third time eating there and we can't wait to return again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food, ambiance and serviceThe food, ambiance and service was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing anniversary dinnerwent to michael mina to celebrate 20 years of wedded bliss;)
everything was incredible - the service, the wine, the food, the interaction with the service. just incredible. i felt like we got every penny's worth from our dinner and then some. i asked about the wine and got an envelope with some other recommendations of similar wines i could try to find more cheaply when i was out wine shopping. the explanation of the food preparation and the recommendations were perfect. this is what fine dining and special occasion eating is all about. i really felt like i was appreciated for choosing to eat there!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful but expensiveMichael Mina continues to delight the senses with eclectic menus and a fairly extensive wine list. In addition the chef's six course with optional wine pairing works really well and leaves little to be desired. We will be coming back for more!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food and serviceFABULOUS food and service. Great restaurant! Should be more crowded and appreciated for its outstanding food. The Lobster Pot Pie was INCREDIBLE. And the Toasted Bread with a special dip mixture of Ricotta and Mascarpone Cheeses topped with Pepper Honey was TERRIFIC.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMOur family of five adultsOur family of five adults enjoyed celebrating a birthday here. Some appetizers, Tuna tartare were excellent. Good entrees were duck breast, snapper and halibut. Expensive ribeye was just average. All three Desserts were disappointing, nothing special and so tiny. But overall nice place to celebrate. Somewhat too dark.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI enjoyed my dining experienceI enjoyed my dining experience at MM's. The food is very good and of the highest quality and the service likewise. The dishes are very creative, perhaps to a fault. When dining at establishments like MM's I sometimes feel my choices are significantly limited by some of the strange combinations and I certainly felt that way about the cuisine at MM's. If I loved polenta, sea urchin and the like, my experience might have been heightened. I appreciate that other diners may be more excited by such choices.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOysters on the half shellOysters on the half shell were wonderful, and the crudos . . . yum! I had the Lobster Pot Pie. It was great, but they did not reconstruct the lobster with the shells like it was done for Giada. :( We would go back again to try the other delicious looking food on the menu.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional experience!Exceptional in all regards. We had the 9 course Ketto tasting menu so in all we tried 18 courses - highly recommend it. The food was creative, fresh and the flavor combinations were sublime. Our experience was superb, and the atmosphere has an energetic buzz. Would definitely go back!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMJust spectacular food. TheJust spectacular food. The tuna tartare was our favorite.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a treat to findOn a recent business trip to San Fran I wanted to take two very important Northeast long term customers out to say thank you and have them experience some Cal - west flavor and creativity in food. This place was off the hook tasty- and we all we offering to share bites-rarley done with this group. Service was timed perfectly- not too hoovering. Very impressed.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe dinner was outstanding,The dinner was outstanding, loved everything, service was great and very knowledgeable. We had a wonderful time - can only recommend.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good meal yet my expectationsVery good meal yet my expectations were higher. Not as memorable as the meal we had at the Michael Mina's in Vegas in all categories ...service,food, and ambiance .4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic restaurant! EveryFantastic restaurant! Every dish we tried was unique and amazing. Loved the tastes and textures presented on each plate.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good.Overall great. Waited too long for entree and was not acknowledged by waitress. Entree size was on large size. Caviar parfait to die for - fantastic!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent, withThe food was excellent, with real attention to detail. The service was formal but with a friendly and welcoming feel.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBest of Tasting MenuWe both had the tasting menu. It was my second time having the tasting menu, and it is excellent. A meal to savor and eat slowly. The tastes were terrific together. I was quite full and will be coming back for this San Francisco treat!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing, butThe food was amazing, but the service was beyond expectation! Incredible!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOf ten courses, the food wasOf ten courses, the food was all perfectly executed, with the exception of a lack of seasoning in one dish. Really excellent food over all. Our server was fantastic, as was the sommelier, and the maitre d'. It was my wife's birthday, and they took great care of us.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the few places I haveOne of the few places I have been in San Francisco that felt very "Manhattan."
Excellent food and very crisp service. The dining room is quite large with high ceilings and the decor is modern. The bar looked busy from our seats.
As it was a Saturday night every other table in our section (near the front) was a birthday party but there were a number of large dinner parties out on the floor. There were many relatively young diners (50% of the room was probably in their thirties) making for an energetic feel.
One of the best restaurants in San Francisco.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic meal. For my taste,Fantastic meal. For my taste, the service errs — just a little — on the side of being both too relaxed and too intrusive, but the food, all eleven courses of it (the nine-course tasting menu with some bonuses), was impeccable, as were the wine pairings. I wish it were not so noisy, but that was the only jarring element of the dining experience.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMCool place to eat & drink cocktailsI went to Michael Mina's for lunch with a coupla friends. I previously had dinner there a few weeks back with my girlfriend and friends. The interior is very cool, the service is excellent, the food is excellent, and the drinks were excellent. There's no ambiance in any personal sense, other than it's a good and cool place to eat. Sadly I found the fat on the Pork Belly fell far short of the deliciousness that I order Pork Belly for - in fact it was inedible. On the other hand: the crab cakes, tuna tartare and London Breakfast cocktail were fantastic, happily.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMTuna Tartare and "hoer d oeuvre"Tuna Tartare and "hoer d oeuvre" appetizer
sampler extraordinary.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLunch was very nice. The highlightLunch was very nice. The highlight was the snapper with lobster ravioli, where the flavors worked together in a way that I wish I had thought of. The "on a whim" cocktail (i.e mixologist's choice) was a great idea, and paired admirably with the food. The service was attentive but discreet--overall an exceptional meal.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMichael Mina retains its placeMichael Mina retains its place among the very top restaurant destinations in the Bay Area.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a gem of a restaurantThis is a gem of a restaurant in the financial district.
