The chef came through with a PERFECT mushroom bisque -- smooth as silk, intense essence of mushroom flavor, garnished delicately with chives and browned sauteed onions. Outstanding and world-class. From the minute we stepped in were were taken aback by the service and atmosphere the place has! We had great table overlooking the concourse ! The food was out of this world! We shared the garlic bread with Gorgonzola cheese fondue,..,, this has to be the best starter we've ever had! My husband asked the waiter what the biggest steak was and that's what he ordered!!! The steak was literally melt in the mouth. I would highly highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a special occasion meal or fancies a bit of fine dining for a nice change! While the vantage point overlooking the main concourse of Grand Central is awesome, MJ's has a surprisingly comfortable and even intimate atmosphere. You would think it would be noisy, but it is not at all. The food is very nicely prepared and presented. Food was very good. We all had steaks with a number of appetizers and side dishes. Everyone was happy with their selections. Only criticism is that meat came out cooked on the rare side rather than medium. Service I felt was outstanding. Our waiter was attentive but not obtrusive. Food served at reasonable intervals. The ambiance in Grand Central Station was elegant yet comfortable. Surprisingly it is not noisy and our table was easily able to converse. Found prices to be reasonable. Had ordered flowers for my wife to be delivered to the restaurant and they were waiting for her on the table. Only complaint was that while I waited for my dinner companion to arrive, I got no service whatsoever. I had to ask a random waiter for a glass of wine and water. On the plus side, the food was delicious, I happen to like the view of Grand Central Terminal below, the noise factor in the dining room is much better than in the bar area. And I love the convenience - I hop off the train, have dinner, and hop back on to get home.
