We came to the restaurant, as we love the food and service. If you're down in the Brookside area, we would definitely recommend this place. The food tastes great, and not that expensive at all. Also, the staff is extremely friendly and enjoyable. I had the salmon salad, and my partner had a sliced steak-type thing - both delicious and hitting the spot. Our waiter was very personable, and had great recommendations for us. We ill definitely be going back here!

Michael Forbes is one of those places that comes to mind when you can't think of someplace you really want to go, but you know you want a good meal. It's reliable, the staff is always friendly, and the food is always good. It's good to have a restaurant like this in one's back pocket.

We had the salmon salad - the salmon was cooked to order as in NOT OVER COOKED. That was a big plus since lots of reataurants cook fish til it's dry & tasteless. A glass of $5 house wine is a nice touch.

This was our first meal here and believe me when I say we were not disappointed in the least! You begin with your server bringing each one at your table one of the most mouth-watering dinner rolls I've had in a long time. The fried artichoke hearts and the calamari appetizers were perfectly prepared. Will highly recommend the Chicken Fried Chicken and Steak Mirin for your entrees...they were delicious and filling. All of the staff was friendly and gracious (the latter, not being something you always encounter in a "bar & grille"). So all in all a wonderful dining experience for us and our friends. We will be back!

My husband and I had eaten at Michael Forbes several times, so when our dinner group was going to get together, we recommended that we eat there. It was the first time for the other 3 couples. They all commented on how good the food was and all would definitely go back! Waiter was attentive and food was served in a timely manner. The Smoked Red Pepper Pasta is delicious!!! I found a new favorite! This is definitely a place to try and go back to again and again.

We had eaten here once before and at that time, determined we would return. Saturday evening in Kansas City found us late without dinner plans. Open Table indicated that Michael Forbes had a table available so we booked and drove 30 minutes. We were seated promptly; the food was terrific and the service outstanding. The atmosphere was quiet; it was a wonderful experience. This may become a staple when we visit Kansas City.

Saw a Groupon and decided to give Michael Forbes a try. I came in with my girlfriend and parents before the One Republic concert and was surprisingly able to be sat right away. Our waitress was great! I forget her name but she was a young African American girl, probably in her 20's, very friendly and attentive. The fish tacos, dill chicken and fish and chips were all good. The prime rib sandwich on the other hand was way overcooked and didn't have much flavor. Maybe upgrade from the cheap silverware, too. Overall, I was satisfied. I'll be back for more tacos!

My daughter and I went on a Sunday evening. We wrote in advance, no black pepper. We arrived and confirmed with the server, no black pepper. The Ahi Tuna was fresh, good and no black pepper. We also got ribs that came with fries and beans and crab cakes. It all, even the fries, had black pepper. Additionally, all of it tasted like prepared food with the exception of the Ahi Tuna. That plate was fresh and good. But we are not going back.

My friends and I dined at Michael Forbes Bar & Grille on a Wednesday night, which meant there was a special deal on burgers (+ 1 side ). I had a classic burger with fried, thinly sliced onions, topped with cheddar and ranch. It was pretty good. The sweet potato fries didn't look very appealing but they tasted fine. I would go back and try some of their other specials.

We took the family to brunch for Mother's Day. The waitress forgot a coffee refill but was otherwise attentive. The food was good given the fact that it was a buffet, but limited in variety. We prefer their regular menu service as the fried catfish is excellent at Michael Forbes.

We were seated promptly and greeted promptly by the very attentive waiter but that's where the fun stopped. The booth by the door was warm (it was warm outside) and the food was extremely fair. Right when we hit the buffet, the food was running low and pitiful-looking. Nothing stood out as particularly tasty. To be fair, when we went back to the buffet for fruit, the food had all been replenished and looked hot. It was just a blah Mother's Day dinner.

It was the Art Fair but from the hostess who "greeted" us to our waitress (Carly), we were met with attitudes of indifference appearing as if they didn't want to be there. Customer service is very much lacking here specifically with whom we encountered. That's not to say all of the servers were that way because I did see some actually hustle around and smile but apparently our server wasn't one of them. I also found it disturbing when I saw a stack of cups fall to the floor in the drink station only to be picked up and used for other customer's drinks and the cups being used to scoop up the ice out of the bin which from past restaurant experience I am sure was not allowed due to health codes. On a positive note though, the food was good.
