A word from Mia Francesca
The first restaurant in The Francesca's Restaurant Group, Mia Francesca features the zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. It was one of the first restaurants in Chicago to encourage the lively art of dining with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, simple, rustic cooking, friendly service and fair prices.

About The Francesca’s Restaurant Group: Founded in 1992 by Restaurateur Scott Harris, Francesca’s Restaurant Group has grown from a small, welcoming Italian restaurant on Chicago’s North Clark Street to a restaurant group of three concepts across 33 locations and four states. Based in Chicago, Francesca’s Restaurant Group currently owns and operates 23 Francesca’s Restaurants, five Davanti Enoteca, and five Glazed and Infused locations.

Lucky to get a table on evening of Chicago marathon, service prompt despite restaurant being packed. Food was delicious. My daughter who is gluten free with a few other dietary issues, had no trouble selecting food from the menu. A great night out

We were on our way to the theater so we arrived early. The crowd hadn't arrived yet. We had wonderful service, the salad we ordered and the short ribs were just outstanding, a real delight. The profiteroles for dessert were worth the calories and they got us out of there in plenty of time to get to our show. I think the most outstanding feature of all was the delicious preparation of those short ribs. However, it was ALL great and our waiter really took care of us. There was a line-up, out the door as we left. What a great place! We will be back OFTEN.

Although it is not the most spacious restaurant and may seem a little crammed in there, Mia Francesca is great find in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview area. The food is reasonably priced; you'll pay between $20-30 for dinner, but you get large portions and outstanding meals. I got the butternut squash stuffed pasta, and it seriously was the best pasta I have ever eaten. I cannot stop thinking about it. The service was very helpful, polite, and, most importantly, fast. The setting is great for a one on one date or a family/group meal. Overall, I had a great experience at Mia Francesca and highly recommend it to anyone.

the food was excellent and the service friendly and especially attentive. Even though we had reservations for 5:30 p.m. the place was already busy. We sat next to neighbourhood "regulars" who are there every week. a good recommendation in itself. The staff even printed out walking directions for us to find the nearby Briar Street Theatre and ensured that we were on time.

We made reservations in advance and when we arrived we saw that our table was practically in the bathroom across from the kitchen. It was my daughter's birthday and could not have been less festive. We did say in advance that it was a birthday occasion. The food was good enough, as was the service. The ambiance was awful.

didn't like that we were seated on second floor. no ambience in this area. Food was disappointing. Shrimp pasta very mediocre quality and tilapia was over cooked and dry. Service was fine. Disappointing visit as we have been to other locations in the suburbs and really liked the food.

We came here for a pre-theater dinner mid-week, and enjoyed the food (although the menu is much more limited than other Francesca restaurants we've been to, and not enough vegetarian options in our opinion). But everything we ended up ordering was delectable, and the wines the waitress suggested were perfect matches and good values. Our biggest gripe by far was the noise level - there were only four of us, and we couldn't hear each other across the table. We would only return here at an off-peak time.

while prices have been going up, we still feel like we get a good value at mia's. one glass of wine, and an appetizer, 2 entrees, and a dessert for $100 including tax and tip. Used to be this would cost $75....but food is always good.

Although there are a lot of restaurants in Chicago Lakeview area only very few can offer the same dining experience as Mia Francesca. The food is great and authentic, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is very friendly. Not only that, this is one of the very few places left in the area where people of all ages, young and old, can feel comfortable and not out of place. I took some of my baby boomers friends for a birthday celebration at Mia Francesca over the weekend, and I was thrilled that everyone enjoyed it tremendously. In short, this is definitely a neighborhood gem.

We have been coming to this original for years, but on our last visit, the service was mediocre as some other reviewers have pointed out. The manager seemed engrossed with a select few tables. All can be forgotten if the food is great, but the food which is usually the star was also not great. The eggplant was raw and inedible, and the cocktails were watery. We come to Francesca's for consistently good Italian, but Forno with a new chef has terrible food and now the original is inconsistent, disappointing. Maybe it's time to find a new Italian spot, and luckily there are many options but sad to lose a favorite place. I hope they just had an off night.

I love the smell of the restaurant the minute you walk in the door. Sauteed garlic & butter fill the air. They do Carpacio and they do it very well!! Best I've had in Chicago to date! Had the Swordfish special and it was impeccable. It was in a light, delicate, butter wine sauce nicely seared and cooked perfectly. Also had a pasta entree which they allowed us to do as a half order which was a perfectly cooked al dente pasta with cream, peas and proscuitto, excellent!! We had eaten late in the day so we split our entrees and they were gracious enough to bring them out pre-split. Great service, great food!!! Highly recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is absolutely impossible to have a conversation in this restaurant. Although my companion was thrilled with her pasta dish (considering it even better that Bucca where we usually dine), mine was under cooked pasta and eggplant, and a drink that tasted like cucumber water. However, the service was excellent. Will not dine there again.

Mia Francseca offtered a decent italian meal before the Blue Man Group show. Our teeage boys each ordered the pizza which they rated as fair. I had a good veal and my wife enjoyed the salmon (the top meal of the night in all our opinions). We arrived at 6 and the resturant was still a little quiet. By 7 it was vibrant and more fun. Tables were a little close making a trip to the restroom challenging. Over all, a decent meal.

Staff was great about researching ingredients regarding my allergy. They were not able to determine all of the ingredients in everything we ordered, but they were very accommodating with interchanging a menu item to fit my needs. We were very pleased with the taste of the food... I just wish I could have tried everything we ordered. The fryer has soy oil in it... why not consider changing it to canola to avoid the problem with allergies? That would make the whole experience even more appealing to someone like me!

We love the Original Mia's and even invited some of the staff to our wedding. Food is great, as is the ambience in the coach house and patio. Service is typically informed and enthused.not tonight. We were celebrating dual anniversaries with out of town guests...we called ahead to share that info and request a patio seat. After a short mix up at the door, we were seated at our patio spot. From there, service went downhill: we were ignored for 15 minutes, then greeted in a surly fashion. She corrected us in order a starter and sternly reminded us of a corkage fee. After botching the order she corrected us on. Oh yeah, and she awkwardly and unpleasantly slapped a comp limoncello on us at the end of the night. Hope ths was an aberration

I have been going here for over a decade. Now about twice a year since moving to Boston. The dining room is cramped and is not conducive to private conversations. The fried calamari remains excellent as was the pea pod salad. The ravioli was top notch. The veal scalapini was a bud thicker than I prefer but had good flavor. The pizza was horrible. The dough had no chewiness and tasted like a pre made store bought crust available at room temperature at aisle 5. The pizza used to be excellent but no longer. I will definitely be back but will never order a pizza again.
