A word from Mia Francesca
Mia Francesca features the zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. It was one of the first restaurants in Chicago to encourage the lively art of dining with a contemporary, casually sophisticated trattoria ambiance, simple, rustic cooking, friendly service and fair prices. The space, originally a candy store, was renovated in 1992 with painstaking attention devoted to preserving as many of the original fixtures as possible. Sleek lines are softened by warm woods; the well-lit dining rooms reflect the animation of the diners; striking black and white photographs of rural Italian life by
Paul Elledge line the walls to create a comfortable, decidedly urban setting. Waiting for a table at the beautiful antique bar is part of the charm of Mia Francesca. The plush upstairs dining room can be reserved for private events, as can the more intimate coachhouse tucked away behind the restaurant.

I returned to Mia with my family after having eating there for special occasions when I lived in Chicago for graduate school almost 20 years ago. It was just as I remembered!! So wonderful - the service, the food - everything was fantastic and made for a wonderful evening with my family and dear friends. My kids (12 and 14) loved their dining experience!

Mia Francseca offtered a decent italian meal before the Blue Man Group show. Our teeage boys each ordered the pizza which they rated as fair. I had a good veal and my wife enjoyed the salmon (the top meal of the night in all our opinions). We arrived at 6 and the resturant was still a little quiet. By 7 it was vibrant and more fun. Tables were a little close making a trip to the restroom challenging. Over all, a decent meal.

Staff was great about researching ingredients regarding my allergy. They were not able to determine all of the ingredients in everything we ordered, but they were very accommodating with interchanging a menu item to fit my needs. We were very pleased with the taste of the food... I just wish I could have tried everything we ordered. The fryer has soy oil in it... why not consider changing it to canola to avoid the problem with allergies? That would make the whole experience even more appealing to someone like me!

We love the Original Mia's and even invited some of the staff to our wedding. Food is great, as is the ambience in the coach house and patio. Service is typically informed and enthused.not tonight. We were celebrating dual anniversaries with out of town guests...we called ahead to share that info and request a patio seat. After a short mix up at the door, we were seated at our patio spot. From there, service went downhill: we were ignored for 15 minutes, then greeted in a surly fashion. She corrected us in order a starter and sternly reminded us of a corkage fee. After botching the order she corrected us on. Oh yeah, and she awkwardly and unpleasantly slapped a comp limoncello on us at the end of the night. Hope ths was an aberration

I have been going here for over a decade. Now about twice a year since moving to Boston. The dining room is cramped and is not conducive to private conversations. The fried calamari remains excellent as was the pea pod salad. The ravioli was top notch. The veal scalapini was a bud thicker than I prefer but had good flavor. The pizza was horrible. The dough had no chewiness and tasted like a pre made store bought crust available at room temperature at aisle 5. The pizza used to be excellent but no longer. I will definitely be back but will never order a pizza again.

We found the environment too loud to talk. The food was nothing special. The wait staff was overworked. We ate upstairs, so service was slow. Food seemed like it had been under the heat lamps too long before someone bothered to bring it upstairs. Plenty of other good places to go in the area. Skip this one.

The noise level was so loud, I thought my ears were going to start bleeding. There was no way I could carry on a conversation with my dinner partner without shouting, thus adding to the noise level. Also, I'm of average size, but needed to squeeze through tables of other diners in order to get to my table and out again. The food was as I expected and the service was pretty good considering the hustle the wait staff had to endure.

We came here before the Blake Shelton concert for a quick dinner. We sat in the little outdoor area which is adorable. Our food was perfect. Our service was blah...& the employees were setting up & re-setting up tables & chairs in our area numerous times. Dragging chairs...making noise - ignoring the fact that they had guests sitting there trying to enjoy a meal already. No one apologized. Food & spot = perfect Service = blah.

The food was great, but the restaurant crammed in way too many tables trying to make a few extra bucks on what was obviously a busy night (Billy Joel concert at Wrigley). Result was unbearable noise level, very slow service (likely because the servers couldn't squeeze through to their tables), and constantly getting bumped from every direction. What should have been a lovely evening left me with a massive headache. I won't be back.

I cannot believe that I never knew there was a patio at Mia Francesca! It's so cozy and the perfect way to enjoy your meal on a nice evening. We came pretty late (9pm) and were seated immediately. We enjoyed a bottle of wine, the bruschetta (added prosciutto), a pasta dish and one of the chicken dishes. I love that there menu constantly changes with what is in season! Service was a tad spotty at times, but our server had tables inside and out so she was very busy. We just took it as an opportunity to linger and savor the evening.

This place was hopping when we arrived for a 7:15 dinner reservation on a Friday night! A good mix of couples on dates, families with children, groups of friends, etc. The wait staff was attentive but not pushy despite the busy night they were having--nothing worse than going out and realizing that they're hoping to turn tables. They had a great list of specials on top of the seasonal selections they were offering and, although their wine list is not extensive, we had a wonderful and reasonably priced bottle of red wine. The food was fresh and delicious. Our waiter recommended sharing entrees family-style, which ended up being perfect as we all so enjoyed each other's dish and got a mix of pasta, fish, and vegetables.

My husband and I went on a recommendation from a friend. We were seated next to a super loud party and couldn't hear each other speak so ate in silence. We ordered our meals and asked the waiter to pace the food. Our main dishes came while we were still eating our salads. We were in and out in about 45 minutes. We had hoped the meal would take longer but also couldn't wait to get away from the loud folks. I probably wouldn't go back.

They did not have availability in the main dining room and it was raining so we could not sit in the court yard. We go seated on the second floor and it was too loud to even have a conversation with the person sitting across from you. This was mainly due to the fact that there was a large party of tipsy, screeching diners in the room, but it didn't help that they turned the music up loud as well. We typically love dining at this neighborhood gem, however this dining experience was pretty terrible due to the noise level.
