A word from Mia Francesca Del Mar
The Francesca's family of restaurants has added another installment to the San Diego area. In addition to Davanti Enoteca, Mia Francesca's opened in the beautiful Del Mar community in February of 2012. Located in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center, the restaurant brings its famous rustic, Italian cuisine to the 150 seat space.
Restaurateur Scott Harris has opened over 20 Francesca's Restaurants in the Chicago Area since 1992, and is excited to bring this concept to the west coast.
Mia Francesca's features a large covered patio, indoor trattoria style dining, and a 50 person private dining room. Chef Woody Benitez leads the kitchen, providing Francesca's classic fare of zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio. The wine list and cocktails are equally impressive in this one of a kind location.

I've taken two friends here for their birthdays and I felt really good about the night. The restaurant has a very warm feeling to it. The menu is simple and not overwhelming. I will continue to celebrate there in the future. Definately recommend this place.

We returned to try again (left the last time because we were put in the back room, which was so noisy we couldn't hear the waiter, let alone our own conversation). This time, we were going to a movie across the way - thank goodness I gave us plenty of time. It took 1 hour to get our food - a busboy finally brought it - I don't think we ever saw our waitress again!?! This place has good food but the total experience leaves much to be desired.

Food was not that great, had a new waiter that said your welcome after I asked for some garlic on the side, before I even said thank you. Used the Deal 25 for 50 still owed 45.00 plus tip, not worth that kind of money.

Terrific ambience on patio, service is always outstanding. The food could use some help in terms of flavor; that is, pizza crust is bland, needs salt and herbs, would also be nice if they offered whole wheat. Pastas are unusual and for the most part tasty; it would be ideal if they would offer whole wheat pasta, good for health as well as much tastier!

Mia Francesca is our favorite Italian Restaurant in Del Mar and Chicago. For this dining experience we enjoyed 2 different salads and 2 different pizzas. The salads always have fresh ingredients and are perfectly balanced with the house vinaigrettes. The pizzas are inventive and have ingredient combinations that you will not find anywhere else.

When we arrived we were seated at a dark table on the patio, EXACTLY as we had requested. It was a beautiful night with a slight breeze and lots going on around us. Very festive and relaxing. Our waiter was Victor, and he was exceptional. We split the special pizza for an appetizer. It was okay--overall it lacked flavor, particularly salt; the crust was crispy but bland. Our pasta entrees were both delicious with generous portions--we ended up taking some home. The only improvement nice to see on the pasta would be if they offered whole wheat pasta as an option for those watching their blood sugar. We chose a nice Shiraz from the wine list, which is good but they could use more wines in the $30-50 range. Overall, a very pleasant dinner!

During our many visits to Chicago, my wife and I always eat at Mia Francesca near the Ritz-Carlton. It is the only Italian Restaurant we visit when in the Windy City. We were told during our last visit in October 2013 that they had a location in San Diego. Much to our surprise, this location is just a few miles from our new weekend home in Del Mar. The menu has the same Italian specialties as the Chicago location and the excellent salads are identical to what is served in Chicago. The String Bean and the Snap Pea Salads are our favorites. The service provided by Salvatore made the evening better than we could have expected. This restaurant is a must destination when you are in Del Mar, Carlsbad, Solana Beach and the surrounding areas.

I love this restaurant. Have been there many, many, times. Had the misfortune to have a server named John this time. Bad attitude, arrogant, treated us as if he couldn't wait for us to eat and be gone. I had a fly in my water and asked for a new glass. He said, "you are outside, things fly. What do you want for dinner. I'll deal w that after." we ordered two entrées. Brussel sprouts in penny were Consistency of a pencil. Waiter never came by. Finally flagged down manager who offered another entree or dessert. Waiter came over after and said "Brussel sprouts are cooked Al dente- it's the Italian way." then turned his back and walked away. Managers are GREAT! I don't know what the issue was w this waiter. Ruined evening.

    Dined on 8/23/2014
My husband and I were very happy to celebrate our anniversary at Mia Francesca. We live in Del Mar and frequent the restaurant often. Since it was our anniversary, we made a reservation with a note mentioning the celebration. When we arrived, the reservation was not ready (no problem) so we grabbed a drink at the bar. Before we could take a sip from the drink, the hostess asked if we could close the tab and sit at the table behind us in the bar area (not great but still no big deal). The bartender quickly came over to take our order. Our pasta meals came out in 5 minutes, before our bottle of wine was delivered. We didn't have time to enjoy our pre drinks, dinner, or bottle of wine. We felt very rushed and no mention of our anniversary :(

  • Second time overcharged - less food

We've been going to Mia since it opened. Saturday, we ordered two kid's ravioli with marinara for kids. Kids portions come in a small bowl. The check came, we were charged $15.99 (adult price) for each kid's small bowl of ravioli.(this happened previously, but did not realize we were overcharged until we arrived home). Kid's menu says meals are $4.95. This time we asked our waiter to please correct the mistake, but when he returned the check was higher because he had earlier waived a corkage fee, but the manager told him to add it back...$25! We have paid the corkage many times before, but to add it back?!! Apparently for the adult entrees now you get charged for the sides too. Ordered Chicken Parm $23.99 plus $5.99 for small pasta.

We had a reservation for 8:30. Even though i received a text at 8:25 notifying me that my table was ready, we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated! The hostess blamed their reservation system, but overall, the reception staff was not welcoming and even though we were standing 5 feet away from the desk, they never once came over to update us regarding our table. The food is not good enough to treat customers like this!

Went to restaurant twice. They have 3 rooms and outdoor dining. The front room is very nice as it connects to both the bar and the outside dining area. The back room feels isolated from the other parts of the restaurant. The food is generally very tasty. Members of the party had pasta, chicken and fish and most of the dishes were very good. The one complaint is how quickly they try and turn the tables. People next to us sat down had a drink and main dish and were gone in less than 30 minutes. That's too quick for a restaurant that likely averages $40 a person for food and drink.

Mia Francesca is a must stop on every trip we make to San Diego/Del Mar. The Pollo Arrosto is my absolute favorite -- moist, succulent whole chicken in a lemon butter sauce. It just melts in your mouth. The appetizer tomato, blue cheese and onion salad is unique and delicious. Our guests had pasta and loved it. My wife had the ravioli stuffed with crabmeat and didn't leave a thing.

We had a 730 reservation but our table wasn't ready. It happens when previous guests don't leave when expected after finishing a meal. The food has always been great. I had the branzino which was excellent. The prices on the fish are pretty high (27) but prices on the pastas and most dishes are reasonable (veal is high too). Kids menu is great and includes drink and dessert which is very nice. Menu changes often and has a lot of variety.
