A word from Mia Francesca Del Mar
The Francesca's family of restaurants has added another installment to the San Diego area. In addition to Davanti Enoteca, Mia Francesca's opened in the beautiful Del Mar community in February of 2012. Located in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center, the restaurant brings its famous rustic, Italian cuisine to the 150 seat space.
Restaurateur Scott Harris has opened over 20 Francesca's Restaurants in the Chicago Area since 1992, and is excited to bring this concept to the west coast.
Mia Francesca's features a large covered patio, indoor trattoria style dining, and a 50 person private dining room. Chef Woody Benitez leads the kitchen, providing Francesca's classic fare of zesty, earthy cuisine of Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio. The wine list and cocktails are equally impressive in this one of a kind location.

Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I were very happy to celebrate our anniversary at Mia Francesca. We live in Del Mar and frequent the restaurant often. Since it was our anniversary, we made a reservation with a note mentioning the celebration. When we arrived, the reservation was not ready (no problem) so we grabbed a drink at the bar. Before we could take a sip from the drink, the hostess asked if we could close the tab and sit at the table behind us in the bar area (not great but still no big deal). The bartender quickly came over to take our order. Our pasta meals came out in 5 minutes, before our bottle of wine was delivered. We didn't have time to enjoy our pre drinks, dinner, or bottle of wine. We felt very rushed and no mention of our anniversary :("

  • "We've been going to Mia since it opened. Saturday, we ordered two kid's ravioli with marinara for kids. Kids portions come in a small bowl. The check came, we were charged $15.99 (adult price) for each kid's small bowl of ravioli.(this happened previously, but did not realize we were overcharged until we arrived home). Kid's menu says meals are $4.95. This time we asked our waiter to please correct the mistake, but when he returned the check was higher because he had earlier waived a corkage fee, but the manager told him to add it back...$25! We have paid the corkage many times before, but to add it back?!! Apparently for the adult entrees now you get charged for the sides too. Ordered Chicken Parm $23.99 plus $5.99 for small pasta."

  • "This spot is not going to blow your socks off but you know what, that's ok in my book. The food was good( not great), the service was available and attentive, and the setting is nice. Dependable restaurant with a good selection to cater to everyone."

  • "excellent evening, having a gluten free menu ensured that the ones that could eat gluten were not made to feel guilty!"

  • "We had a reservation for 8:30. Even though i received a text at 8:25 notifying me that my table was ready, we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated! The hostess blamed their reservation system, but overall, the reception staff was not welcoming and even though we were standing 5 feet away from the desk, they never once came over to update us regarding our table. The food is not good enough to treat customers like this!"

  • "The food was very good and the servers were very friendly and attentive. The desserts were fantastic! My only complaint was that it was pretty loud. I was with a group of 4 and the restaurant was so loud we couldn't hear each other from across the table even when there weren't very many people left in the dining area."

  • "Went to restaurant twice. They have 3 rooms and outdoor dining. The front room is very nice as it connects to both the bar and the outside dining area. The back room feels isolated from the other parts of the restaurant. The food is generally very tasty. Members of the party had pasta, chicken and fish and most of the dishes were very good. The one complaint is how quickly they try and turn the tables. People next to us sat down had a drink and main dish and were gone in less than 30 minutes. That's too quick for a restaurant that likely averages $40 a person for food and drink."

  • "Mia Francesca is a must stop on every trip we make to San Diego/Del Mar. The Pollo Arrosto is my absolute favorite -- moist, succulent whole chicken in a lemon butter sauce. It just melts in your mouth. The appetizer tomato, blue cheese and onion salad is unique and delicious. Our guests had pasta and loved it. My wife had the ravioli stuffed with crabmeat and didn't leave a thing."

  • "We had a 730 reservation but our table wasn't ready. It happens when previous guests don't leave when expected after finishing a meal. They offered us each a cocktail on the house while waiting which was nice. Food was good but our server was not very attentive and seemed rushed most of the time."

  • "Your wine by the glass is overpriced (compare around SD) and limited. Our waiter seemed to be very pushy, ( asking for our order) we had to send him away 3 times in what felt like 10 minutes. The food was also served too fast between courses."

  • "I wanted cheese ravioli & although the weren't on the menu, the chef made me a plate and topped it with asparagus & red peppers and a n olive oil/garlic topping. The bruscetta is amazing -- topped with chopped tomatoe, onion & generous portions of avocado! Mia Francesca is my favorite Italian restaurant. The staff is five star just like the food & wine!!"

  • "It was my wife's birthday dinner. Wine glass was not clean. Mussel was stinky. Seabass was uncooked. Although we simply wanted to have birthday dinner, we had to regret that we chose the restaurant for the occasion."

  • "We were there for usual Saturday movie and dinner. The movie ran 30 minutes later than we thought but hostess/s were most gracious and seated us right away"

  • "The food has always been great. I had the branzino which was excellent. The prices on the fish are pretty high (27) but prices on the pastas and most dishes are reasonable (veal is high too). Kids menu is great and includes drink and dessert which is very nice. Menu changes often and has a lot of variety. Sitting outside is quite nice but inside is nice too (a bit crowded and loud but nice atmosphere)."

  • "Love this place - the best Italian food in our neighborhood. I love that while they retain a few favorites, they change their menu on a weekly basis....and if they don't have a pasta dish on the menu that you had the last time, if they have the ingredients, they will make it for you!"

  • "The best Italian food in the area, good service, the pizza is specially good if you like it really Roman style, thin, light on the sauce and very fresh ingredients."

  • "Staff was kind of rude, unless you're a regular. Would not eat here again. The waiter seemed annoyed and seemed as though he wanted us to order quickly. However, he behaved different when regulars came in; then he was all smiles"

  • "I have been to this restaurant twice before and had a much better impression. Perhaps because this was the memorial day weekend it just didn't measure up this time. Service was only adequate, the food was very average, and the only memorable part was finding a table on the outside patio. I know I won't try it again very soon, if at all."

  • "Mia Francesca is consistently the best restaurant in the Del Mar Highlands. The food is outstanding, the service is great and it has great proximity to the theater and other shopping. Definitely on our top 10 list!"

  • "My fish was excellent and my husband enjoyed his chicken. The servers were charming; but not overly attentive. I would have ordered an additional glass of wine or appetizer if more effort was put into making our meal a dinig experieince."

  • "Food was good - service was a bit slow but done in time for the movies "

  • "We made a reservation. Decided to let the hostess seat us, rather than make a request - BIG mistake. She took us to a back room that was packed (there were open tables outside and in the front room) with very noisy tables, one large party was particularly loud! We couldn't hear ourselves, let alone the waiter/bus boy that came by to take our drink order. We were so dismayed we decided to just leave. I've had good experiences at this restaurant before so I'll be back. I won't sit in the back room again, though."

  • "We have made a visit here mandatory before or after the Cineopolis movies nearby. The food is great, the service is always friendly and prompt. Kevin the manager makes sure everyone is well cared for. The menu changes but they will make a favorite you remember (Cheese tortellini with chicken and prosciutto) The pizza is outstanding and they have creative salad choices (try the pea pods and cucumber). You can also add salmon, shrimp or chicken to any of the salads. It is a little energetic for a romantic evening but you could pull it off. A great place to meet friends or a group."

  • "It pains me to say that I was disappointed with the meal. Having spent years frequenting the Mia Francesca in Chicago, I was excited at the prospect to dine at another location. Although the restaurant and server met expectations, the food did not. Asparagus was mushy in the asparagus salad. Both of our pasta sauces were bleh.... didn't seem fresh and vibrant. I hope this experience was a one-off and not the norm. We'll give it one more try, but may just be sidetracked into their next door neighbor, Davanti."

  • "The food was very good, but in our group of 6, most thought the food was a little salty. Carpaccio and lentils mainly. Great presentation though. It seemed as though the blue cheese was quite salty in the asparagus. The waitress, Jill, was awesome!"
