Diner Reviews
  • "Great lunch special. Soups were excellent. Quick service."

  • "I recommend this restaurant to vegetarian travelers or residents of Center City Philly. The restaurant in small, clean, and efficiently run. Despite the Vietnamese-sounding name, the menu actually features a range of global flavors. Each plate features a selection of individual items, each carefully prepared and individually seasoned. My companion and I both selected an "Indonesian plate" from the brunch menu. The standout item was the seitan-potato dish, flavored with something like a spicy peanut sauce. Extremely comforting. The small plate of fresh fruit that began our meal was a lovely touch."

  • "This is a good restaurant for vegetarians/vegans. We had the Crispy Veggie Rolls as an appetizer and as entrees the African Peanut Stew and the Seitan/Mole/Portobello with Brussel Sprouts. Both dishes were flavourful. The servings were large and we took away some left overs from each entree. They do not serve any alcohol but you can bring your own if you wish. It is a short walk from Logan Square. We ate there on a Saturday evening and the place was about half full. Service was fast and cost was reasonable."

  • "Nothing charming about it. Food was just average. Taste was ok. Nothing about it made you say "wow.""

  • "Went there with a party of 5 (3 sophisticated vegetarians) with no expectations. Was p[leased with the attentive staff, the candid recommendations, and the preparation and quality of the food. The ambiance is sparse--essentially bare--but the food variety more than made up for it. Everything was shared and we must have tried 12 dishes. None disappointed. the dumplings in particular (we sampled 3 kinds) were moist and delicious. We also especially enjoyed the cauliflower steak and the pad thai. Being a BYO was also a real plus. We will certainly return."

  • "We took my mother in law to Mi lah for her birthday. She was the only vegetarian amongst us but we all equally loved the food. It was full of flavor and a pleasant surprise. Portion size and prices were reasonable. It's to bad that restaurant is hidden in the corner and doesn't look so inviting but the food will keep you coming back. I do agree with other reviewers, the service needs to be improved on but we did get one server that indulged us in a conversation an seemed more approachable and knowledgeable than our actual server."

  • "The food was really interesting and pretty good! It was a nice spot to go to catch up with friends and family: lit well, quiet, relaxed, not too expensive. We were allowed to sit in the restaurant after finishing for quite some time. Also, our server steered us towards his opinion of the best things on the menu. Most of his recommendations were really good! Make sure to try the palm sugar tofu appetizer!"

  • "Tasty and interesting veg food. Good service. I have dined there many times for brunch, lunch, dinner. Non-veg people like it too."

  • "I went with two foodies and a vegetarian who needs gluten free food, and we were all very happy with the food. We plan to return."

  • "Generous portions of delicious and beautifully presented vegetarian fare more than make up for the lesser ambiance compared to it's more hyped and higher priced neighborhood competition. Despite an almost full house, the service was both gracious and quick."

  • "We were thrilled with everything we sampled and we sampled many items."

  • "The tastes were good. The service was good. It was cold inside particularly in the upstairs. It is a good place for vegetarians. If all the food came out with the same taste I would've waited it a 4, but I rate it a 3 1/2."

  • "I loved Mi Lah and am so glad we finally made it there. As a vegan, I love when I do not have to ask if a menu item is vegan. All items on Mi Lah's menu are. My husband is NOT a vegan, nor a vegetarian, but there were plenty of items for him to select from on the menu. We LOVED everything we tried and cannot wait to go back to try more. Food was served hot and quickly. Staff was friendly. We visited Vietnam and Cambodia over the summer, and many of the dishes reminded us of our adventures in Asia. There was a baby shower upstairs, so it was a bit loud, but I'm guessing when it's just a regular Saturday night, it's less loud, or, just noisy in a different way."

  • "Had dinner while in Philly on business. The three of us ordered a variety of dishes to share and we found every single dish fantastic. The cashew cauliflower dish was especially good. Would definitely return"

  • "On my first viisit to Mi Lah Vegetarian restaurant I was hooked. The presentation of each dish is artistic, the food itself quite delicious and the portions very ample. It is good to see that vegetarian eating has gone way beyond the usual zillions of ways to use tofu."

  • "Super food from a non-vegetarian! Service and ambiance was ok but the food was really special."

  • "I have been to Mi Lah 3 times now, and each time I am thoroughly impressed by the taste and artistry of my dishes. Mi Lah is great for those looking for a slightly less expensive but equally tasty alternative to places like Vedge."

  • "We went there initially because they had vegan food but we were surprised by how good the food tasted to us non vegans as well. They have a great selection of tasty, well seasoned items. We went for brunch and the tofu Benedict was amazing. The service was fast and efficient. We will definitely go there again."

  • "I go by here all the time but never noticed this place. I found it on OpenTable and read some of the reviews, so we gave it a try, and the food was fantastic & reasonably priced. 3 of us shared a bunch of dishes and loved everything. We're not all vegetarians, but the carnivores were satisfied with the robust vegan options."

  • "I went here for brunch with a party of 6. Everyone's food was outstanding and the server was attentive and helpful. I ordered the tofu benedict and the hollandaise sauce really made the dish. The potato & sweet potato home fries were excellent as well. The decor is stark and the ladies room could use a lot of updating, but the noise level was low enough to be able to catch up with friends without having to shout."

  • "This wonderful Asian fusion/vegan restaurant could almost turn me into a vegan. Their delightfully flavored and spiced dishes have all the umami of meat-based cuisine with great sauces and interesting substitutions in traditional dishes. Who knew that sweet potatoes, mushrooms, nuts and squash could be so hearty and tasty? Small and intimate with a friendly staff. Perfect for 'before theater' dinner or lunch during the work week. We will return"

  • "On a weeknight, we were one of a couple diners so it was a very quiet dinner. Our waitress was very quiet, but nice & did all the right things at the right times. The atmosphere was nice, but not fancy. But then the food came out & it was gourmet quality. As a new vegan, I was so excited. Squash bisque (tasty), salad with papaya, avocado, & lime dressing (awesome), spring rolls (very good), fried rolls (excellent, melt in your mouth). Then dinner was mushrooms in phylo dough, with creamy sauce, mashed potatoes, & onions for me (exquisite!). Butternut squash on risotto cake w grilled seitan & carrots for my husband (he loved it). Everything is vegan. My husband who still eats meat, never felt deprived. The portions were good."

  • "mi lah never disappoints. the service was wonderful, as always, and the food - superb. if you are a vegan or even NOT, their brunch is FABULOUS. I have been a few times - this last time i got the spanish breakfast (by suggestion of the server) and it was amazing. i don't know how they do it, but it is always too good. can't wait to come back!"

  • "Fresh, delicious, artfully-presented dishes seem to be the norm at MiLah. We opted to order four appetizers in lieu of entrees because everything sounded so good. We enjoyed the grilled Portobello mushrooms over roasted beets topped with brussell sprouts and grilled asparagus spears, caramelized tofu and cauliflower with pistachio sauce, Asian rice paper rolls with fresh basil and sesame sauce, and sweet potatoes cakes with cabbage and crushed peanuts salad. The portions are large; nearly every table left with a take-home bag. There were 2 busy servers and a third kitchen runner all of whom offered stellar service and a friendly demeanor. What a find in Rittenhouse Square! Can’t wait to return."

  • "The platters here offer big portions and big, and mostly good, flavors. The downside, beside having to pick kale out of your teeth afterward, is an over-reliance on fried items. But you can get around that. In all, the food, if anything has improved since my last visit. The nondescript surroundings haven't, but that's not what you come for."
