MH Fish HouseTraveling FoodiesWe travel a lot and love GREAT food. Wounderful food for the price. Great servive. We eat here whenever we are in town.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGo nowThis is our favorite restaurant. Love the decor, service and food. Had the black cod this week and it was amazing. My husband had the kobe skirt steak...so good.
And, the oysters are so fresh and our server was great at describing the different options.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional Dining ExperienceProbably the best dining experience in Lake County. Friendly staff. Great food. Excellent atmosphere, especially on outdoor balcony area. Excellent wine list (including high-end wines by the glass). We went there for date night and absolutely loved everything about it.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA Hidden GemLake Forest's new restaurant is worth checking out. The food is absolutely amazing from the lobster bisque to the mahi-mahi, scallops etc. Every single fish they serve can be ordered however you prefer, makes it so easy. Presentation is spot on, simple and elegant. Surroundings are simple and understated. Our waitress Christina (I think) was the most knowledgeable we have ever had anywhere! Did I mention the desserts? Desserts are made on the premises and so fresh and delicious I would go back just for the dessert.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Addition for LFThe Market House owners have expanded their grip on Lake Forest's dining scene with this new entry. The food is tasty, though the menu is a bit limited for a true fish house. Prices are a bit high for the suburbs ($16 for four smallish shrimp cocktail) ($36 for a smallish swordfish dish). The service is friendly, efficient, and informative. The space has been redone tastefully.
The wine list is adequate, but again...no bargains by the bottle. Most wines, however, are offered by the glass at 25% of the full bottle price. Despite our feelings on the pricing, we will likely be back to try more of the menu.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest dinner in Lake Forest in yearsBeen eating in Lake Forest for many years and finally had first rate "downtown" food. Our group had a variety of fish and preparations--all excellent and house salad unusual, very healthful and good. Will try the Sunday brunch and go back soon for dinner.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSeafood was fresh and excellentlySeafood was fresh and excellently prepared. Service a bit slow but we didn't mind. Friendly staff. We celebrated a special occasion and were treated to glasses of Champaigne.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you like fish...try fish houseWe've eaten at market house right below fish house many times and always enjoyed it. So we decided to try fish house last week. Food was great. Presentation of the salads and main course were very elegant and colorful. Good swordfish is hard to find and it was excellent. Service was good...not rushed either. They serve wine buy the glass that you would normally need to buy a full bottle. That's a nice touch. We passed on dessert as the selections were not to our liking. Being on the second floor we had a nice view of the lake forest square. Parking not an issue5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a Fabulous Night! My friend and I shared oysters, to start. The wait staff and manager are very knowledgeable about the varieties available each evening. The ones we enjoyed were exquisite and expertly served. We also sampled the crawfish, with cornbread hush puppies. All delicious! The place was packed with lively diners. Don't miss this one-of-a-kind experience!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA Real TreatFinally a north suburban fine fish restaurant. Great food, service and fair prices
that we will return to.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMdefinite repeatfood was great, server did an excellent job and made several good food and wine recommendation5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMHeated second floor enclosed porch.Very nice place to dine for a very quiet dinner. Only another couple in this room.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth a visitFresh Seafood, very competent service and very nice atmosphere.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food, But A Little PreciousOur dinner was very good. The scallops and hallibut were excellent. They just get a little overzealous with the presentation. The clam chowder was "deconstructed", with the solids in the bowl and the server pours the liquid portion over them at the table. The desserts were over complicated. The key lime came as separate bits - whipped cream, key lime "filling" and crumb "crust" in separate little piles on the plate. How about just a nice piece of pie - in one piece? However, as I said, it was all very tasty.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCity quality food at city pricesTucked away in a quaint setting off a square of little shops, MH Fish House offers high-quality food, great service and elegant ambiance. We sat upstairs on their enclosed, heated balcony. Everything was delicious: raw oysters, a perfectly cooked cod with scrumptious quinoa with vegetables, black olive and pesto (HIGHLY recommended). I had the scallops with pureed parsnips and we shared a side of decadent adult mac & cheese with braised short rib and chanterelle mushrooms -- yummy! Prices were comparable to city prices. Will definitely be back for a special occasion.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat New PlaceWe have been to MH twice now, and had wonderful food and great service with each dinner. Their simply grilled optiond are delicious.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMI love this place and itsI love this place and its food, Service and Owners. Had the crayfish with grits, not exactly what you'd expect in a white table cloth restaurant and they were great, ditto with braised of-tail Mac and Cheese. Looking forward to our next visit4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond time dining at MH fishSecond time dining at MH fish and it was just as great as the first. Our table loved the mac and cheese with oxtail and laughing shrimp. Wine list is really remarkable and service was good. Felt like we were dining downtown!
Definitely will plan to bring all my out of town visitors here over the summer. Thank you for bringing us this new neighborhood gem!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMA welcome addition to ourA welcome addition to our dining scene. Attentive service and excellent food.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe MH Fish House is an excellentThe MH Fish House is an excellent restaurant. This was our first time and definitely would recommend it. My husband had the Sturgeon and I had the Scallops mixed with greens and potatoes and the food was made to perfection. The service is unbelievable, we both felt like Kings and Queens. We are planning to go back and bring friends with us. If you like seafood, then this is the place to go. The atmosphere was warm and relaxing, and the service is top of the line.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect EveningDespite our sizable group (7)service, food, wine was perfect. Staff was always available, eager to assist and answer questions. Alex our waiter was superb, as was David the manager.
Owner, Carla, was so hospitable and treated the table to an appetizer and dessert celebrating the birthday. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. The champagne was affordable and properly served and chilled.
We requested and were seated at a corner table. Perfect spot, no noise, very intimate -perfect for the occassion.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAn excellent dining choice. An excellent dining choice. The atmosphere of this place is an experience in itself...I felt like I was in a hip restaurant in Chicago... And you can see directly into the kitchen! I am not much of a seafood person but could not resist trying the mussels- and eventually ordering the red snapper! It was delicious. Per the server's suggestion we ordered the KeyLime dessert which was a great end to the meal. This restaurant would be a perfect environment for any occasion- date night or business meeting!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Seafood in the 'BurbsI came across this restaurant in my searching for seafood focused restaurants in the suburbs and noticed it had only been open 3 months. Thank goodness I came across the MH Fish House. This place is phenomenal. The service was great. Very attentive, informative and friendly. The decor is very nautical and made me feel like I was in Maine on vacation and not in Lake Forest so close to home. And then came the food. We tried two small plate dishes (fried oysters and the crab cake), the lobster bisque, the striped bass, the cioppino and the deconstructed key lime pie. Everything was simply awesome. Flavors were spot on and created succulent layers. Best seafood restaurant in the Chicago area for sure. We will be back soon and often!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVE the Fish House!I love the Fish House in Lake Forest! They have fantastic food and exceptional service. From the bartenders to the owners, everyone really cares about your dining experience. As a wine lover, I really appreciate that I can order any wine off of their extensive wine list by the glass. One of my favorite treats is to start with a glass of champagne and some oysters. As a frequent diner, I also enjoy the option to order entrees "Simply Grilled". One of the nicest dining experience you can have on the North Shore!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Dining Experience! From our immediate warm greeting as we walked in, wonderful bar service as we waited to be seated, to finally the chef himself approaching our table to see how we were enjoying the evening, this was a fantastic dining experience. The decor is bright and inviting, with white walls and a beautiful enclosed balcony . The open kitchen, ( you can watch the chef and kitchen staff prepare your entrees ) which gives this suburban eatery a very downtown feel. The wine list was very well composed, the menu was fresh and well planned. We decided to embark on a tasting experience ( picking various items on the menu to share ) I must say we were not disappointed. The food is AMAZING! The entire evening from start to finish was OUTSTANDING! A must try!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI love MH fish house- everythingI love MH fish house- everything is wonderful, from the staff to the food to the decor. It's great to have fresh seafood that's been prepared beautifully. The lobster risotto is by far my favorite- the crayfish was also outstanding. The great thing about the fish house menu is that it is constantly changing, you can order old favorites but try new things everytime you visit. I also like the fact you can order pretty much any wine by the quartino- a great way to try new things without having to buy entire bottle. The servers are really knowledgable which is great. I will warn future diners that since it's a small restaurant, if you must sit in a certain place, definitely let them know.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dinner - excellentWonderful dinner - excellent service. Innovative menu. Excellent wines.
Thanks!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second visitThis was our second visit to MH Fish House and it was fabulous! Some of the best scallops i have ever had.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Fish RestaurantMy wife and I had a great dinner at MH Fish House....the oysters and dover sole were outstanding...she had the flounder, also fantastic....the service was wonderful and all priced very fairly. We would definitely go again. A great dining experience.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food in a beautifulWonderful food in a beautiful setting. Attentive service. The risotto was amazing.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAn unusually good restaurantAn unusually good restaurant for the suburbs. The price point is a bit too high to make it a frequent haunt. One wonders if the current level of enthusiasm for this level of dining will last in this location.3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally a hidden gem close to homeSecond visit exceeded our expectations. Staff very accommodating, wanting to be certain that every thing was perfect. We had the scallop entrees which were done just right. They deserve top reviews but we worry word will get out and it will become more difficult to find an open table in the future.3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a pleasant surprise inWhat a pleasant surprise in downtown Lake Forest. My wife and I went to celebrate her birthday. The hostess, manager and waitstaff bent over backwards to try and make sure we were happy. The atmosphere reminded us of a nice New England seafood restaurant , with white table cloths and an excellent wine selection. Every bottle on the menu, was also available by the glass. Unusual and appreciated. Good luck in your new venture.1/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were pleasantly surprisedWe were pleasantly surprised when we booked this newly opened restaurant. the food and menu variety are excellent and the server wadeswcribed the disher perfectly and also guided us to a perfect wine.
