Diner Reviews
  • "No one can argue with the lovely setting and wonderful cuisine at Mezze, but we were extremely disappointed at the service. After a nice greeting by the hostess, during which we mentioned the birthday of one of our diners, and were assured it would be passed onto the server, we were shown to our table. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the food, but forgot who ordered what, forgot a request for a second drink, served the "snack" after the appetizers, only after being reminded, and certainly forgot the birthday mention. Let's hope the management issues are addressed, for everything else is in place to make this a wonderful dining spot."

  • "When we attend the Williamstown Theatre Festival, it is our always our Saturday night dinner spot! If we lived closer, we would be regulars: the food is exquisite, the staff friendly, but not intrusive, the view, especially from he bar area, is breathtaking. The wine selection is very good although the 'pour' could be a bit more."

  • "Mezze has always been very good, but this season's menu is truly excellent and special. Every farm to table dish is delicious and has pure fresh flavors. It's a laid-back, fun place with serious unpretentious food and service."

  • "The food was very good; a limited menu, but everyone in our party found something to his or her taste, and the wine list has nice choices (not inexpensive) whether by the glass or bottle. The emphasis was on local foods (and, to my delight, on locally foraged mushrooms on our night). On the negative side, the greeters at the restaurant give off the distinct impression that you are lucky to be able to eat there; not quite impolite, but certainly not friendly or helpful. The waitress, I hasten to add, was quite friendly and helpful. We normally eat here when we're at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, but I think we'll look for other options."

  • "This was our second trip to Mezze. Although we hit the restaurant at an incredibly busy time, as part of the pre-theater crowd, our server managed to get us out at the promised time and the food was wonderful. The atmosphere seemed a little stressed, but I would attribute this more to the large parties of rude and demanding diners than any shortcoming on the part of the kitchen or staff. My only disappointment was that we didn't have time for dessert . . . next time!"

  • "We enjoyed a delicious dinner for two at Mezze. We found the list of appetizers to be more interesting than the main courses, so we put together a selection of small plates and nothing disappointed. Standouts included the sriracha chickpeas, cherry tomato salad, octopus - exquisitely tender, mushrooms with egg, and kale caesar salad. We'd love to go again!"

  • "I used to love going to this restaurant, but no more. The menu is extremely limited. If you are vegetarian or gluten-free, forget it. The owners of this restaurant, who also own Allium in Gt Barrington, have developed a menu for a certain population. There are no substitutions if you have food allergies or sensitivities. I suggest you check out the menu before making a reservation to assure there is something you want."

  • "We had dinner with a friend in Williamstown. We have eaten at Mezze before and also ate at the same location many times when the name was Le Jardin. We have always liked this restaurant, but were disappointed this time. They are trying so hard to be special and high end, that the menu came off to us as just strange or odd. I like to order a main course and be served a salad as part of the meal. The "starters" were all rather odd to us. My husband felt this even more so. We ordered the beef, and it was good though a little chewy and fatty. Our guest ordered fish and again said it was good. The deconstructed deserts were very over priced and odd. What happened to normal good food?"

  • "A friend and I dined here two years ago after attending the Wiilliamstown Theatre Festival - it was excellent! We dined here again last year after a performance at the WTF - it was very good. This year we found it just OK - limited menu and some of the items were a bit pricey - e.g. some Ricotta-like cheese on toast with carmelized onions - $10."

  • "We had an excellent and beautifully prepared meal at Mezze. We were in Williamstown to see the newly renovated Clark Museum and to attend a concert at Tanglewood. The food was delicious from start to finish, the service was mostly terrific, and the restaurant was beautifully decorated. We had a lovely evening. Thank you."

  • "Food was good - only problem, 2 pasta dishes came out cold. Waitress not around, so one just ate it. Finally flagged down bartender and he took the remaining plate in to be warmed. Service was good at first. The food was pretty tasty though! I'd go back."

  • "Food and service were fantastic. We did a deal where we all ordered but then split everything so we all tried several different dishes and WOW they were so amazing. Our server was really great, very attentive and yet not intrusive. I highly recommend this place."

  • "Third time dining here. Very nice service and most of the food was exceptional. The zucchini dish was particularly good. Avoid the steak. The appetizers were really very good. Nice ambience. We will return on our next visit to the area."

  • "I first thought the menu looked a bit short, but we found ourselves having a hard time deciding on exactly what to select. We most likely could have chosen anything, and had a great meal. The garganelli with lamb and pork was incredibly flavorful, as was the octopus, and my husband's pork loin was perfect. I even enjoyed the bits of kale in the garganelli! Service was excellent and the evening proceeded smoothly and memorably."

  • "Excellent meal - lived up to the hype. But service was not as attentive as fits the price (e.g., wine by the glass came nearly at end of our main course, with no recognition of the situation at hand). Lack of coordination between wait staff and bar, and wait staff and support (the young woman who brings around the bread - which was excellent, BTW)."

  • "We get to Mezze about three times a year when visiting from out of town. It never disappoints. The menu always seems new, and the wine list, though not extensive, is interesting and decent value."

  • "This was our first visit to Williamstown, and we found Mezze in a listing area restaurants. The menu was interesting, and the dishes we chose were delicious. The service was prompt and professional and our server very knowledgable about the preparation of the dishes. The restaurant is divided into several rooms which gives a cozy atmosphere. Overall our experience was excellent and we highly recommend Mezze."

  • "On this, our third visit, we once again had a delicious meal, professionally served. A very positive experience overall. I will confess, as a meat (and seafood and game/poultry) and potatoes guy, I often have issues with the menu here. No (or rarely) lamb, veal, game, etc. And a short list of locally grown, in season, veggies are repeated frequently through the current menu. But I always find a couple of items that pique the appetite and the ingredients and preparation have always been outstanding. Exceeded my expectations. And my wife usually finds herself in pasta heaven. Not exactly in downtown Williamstown, but well worth the short drive south."

  • "Lovely restaurant. Atmosphere is a bit boring. Food is fantastic. My salmon was great."

  • "The potato churros were phenomenal. Grilled octopus tender and delicious. The entree was disappointing - beef ordered medium rare was medium well. The strawberry/angel food cake and chocolate sundae desserts were the perfect size for sharing and really good. My partner ordered a delicious cocktail - a Bee Sting. I tasted his and when I tried to order one, I was told, "Oh, we're all out of the ingredients." Seriously? They had like, four cocktails on the menu, and this was 7 PM on a Saturday night. At first we thought she was joking - but no. Water glasses went unfilled. The waitress really couldn't answer questions about the content of the menu items. It was almost like something out of a Saturday Night Live sketch."

  • "Williamstown is lucky to have such a high caliber restaurant, with really top notch food taking advantage of local produce. Kitchen seems to be well trained: good flavor combinations, nice modern presentation, sauces have clarity, nuance, and depth of flavor...food tastes good. Tasty cocktails, and staff was well trained, if a little green... For instance our waiter seemed a little unsure of himself, but had tasted all the wines by the glass and was able to make two spot-on recommendations for pairing."

  • "We read the many positive reviews and followed a local resident's recommendation and LOVED this restaurant. Delicious food, great wine and excellent drinks. Expensive, but not overpriced, as the quality of the experience and food was great. The service was just slightly awkward but not uncomfortably so, and attentive and prompt. Will be back again!"

  • "We barely made it there before the kitchen closed, but they didn't rush as at all. We ordered a number of small plates and liked all of them. In particular, I liked the Octopus and the bone marrow. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is in the area."

  • "Food was fantastic! We both got the bistro steak and couldn't of had a better steak. It was cooked perfect. The waitress was spot on with our food and drinks. The asparagus soup was great. We would definitely go back with friends."

  • "Very nice spot! Good food, pretty space, lovely setting"

  • " Food: In Short - Overpriced. $ 20.00 for lima beans? and $ 34.00 for a filet of undercooked fish? Fried Chickpeas appetizer were closer to raw than cooked. Is this a new trend in fusion dining, to undercook the food? "

  • "The food, essentially farm-to-table style, was both delicious and striking (though not particularly avant garde, which may be a good or a bad thing depending on taste). The hilltop view is very nice. We do have to say that our service was a bit off: by no means rude or incompetent, but awkward and slow. The place seemed understaffed (due to Williams College having just ended for the year?) and things were a bit chaotic; two different people asked if we wanted anything after dinner, but it still took ages for the check to arrive. Fortunately, this should be easy to fix and we expect Mezze to remain a thoroughly satisfying place to eat in Williamstown."

  • "We were here four or five years ago and came away disappointed by long waits and poor service mainly. This time around that all was perfect, marred only by a slight delay in our appetizers, made up for by a plate of olives to accompany our drinks. The food was extremely well prepared, my wife quibbling a bit about her German sausage mainly because she did ask about it in advance...I think she thought maybe some kind of gourmet brat coming out.... My crisp duck strips served in pasta (can't remember the exact name of the dish) was simply superb. We found the prices fair and the restaurant itself is very attractive in a lovely relaxing setting that verges on quiet New England rural elegance. "

  • "What had been a great local gem served pallid uninspired food from an ambitious menu. What was listed as Char ended up being salmon. We're hoping it was just an off night, but locals confirmed the decline from previous high standards. Here's hoping Meze can get back in the groove."
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "Serving staff seemed short-handed, but Lauren seemed nonchalant besides that. Took awhile for drinks to be poured, and then they sat at the end of the bar, even as she came and went once. I finally had to ask the bartender to bring them around. Food was excellent, however. Transition of chefs does not seem to have hurt. "

  • "We've been to Mezze a number of times when visiting the area and, if anything, it's only gotten better. They buy (and even forage) locally. The menu changes with the seasons. The wait staff is very attentive. And the restaurant itself is visually appealing."
