A word from Mezzaluna - Half Moon Bay
Mezza Luna Restaurant, "half moon" in Italian, is located in the historic Princeton Landing Building (circa 1908). The harbor town of Princeton by the Sea is located 20 miles south of San Francisco on Highway 1. In this scenic area of Half Moon Bay, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean, you can experience breathtaking coastal views and marvel at the giant waves of Mavericks. Opened in the Summer of 1993, Mezza Luna continues to create an eating environment which provides the highest quality of meat, fish, produce, pizza and pasta. All with a contemporary Southern Italian flair.

This was a first visit and the restaurant was hard to find. It is much larger than we first thought. It is spacious but very noisy. The wait staff was inattentive and the service lacking. The waiter did not ask us if we wanted drinks, we had to ask him. We did not get bread right away. The food itself was very tasty, but because of the noise and bad service we would not go back.

It was just so,so. Everything was average and nothing stood out. I had the Crab Pasta special and asked the waiter if it had a generous portion. He said yes and when it came there was barley any crab, 2 ounces if that. ( all they need to do is add 6 more ounces to make it a special dish. The Calimari was average and came with tartar only, no cocktail sauce ( still can't figure that one out.) The Cesar salad was ok, no better than Costco. It was just so,so. We enjoyed a delicious dinner. The chef took a special request for a non menu item - eggplant parmigiana. It was delicious made with fresh ingredients; basil, tomatoes and just enough cheese to top it. The service was prompt yet distant enough to give our group privacy. Overall a great experience.

Celebrated our 2 years anniversary at this lovely restaurant. Booked the reservation at 7:45PM but arrived around 6PM (way too early) so the front desk able to move up my reservation and seated us immediately. All waiters were responsive and kind as well as foods were very delicious especially the creme brulee dessert to finish off the fine dinner.

Mezzaluna remains a good, dependable, restaurant for knowledgeable locals. The menu, the wait-staff, the ambiance, and food preparation are unchanged for the last decade....in this case, a very good thing. The quality of the food and the attention of the wait-staff is outstanding. Reservations are a must because this place fills up early and often. Highly recommended.

Food and food service were excellent. Only downside was in an almost empty dining area we were initially seated next to a noisy bar group. When we asked to be relocated, the hostess told us she would be seating that group immediately, so, should be ok to sit there. When we insisted, we were left standing there while she seated that group (in another room). It took more than awhile to get reseated. Once done, a very nice evening.

What a wonderful trip back to Italy! From the moment I opened the menu. It is important to note that I am a travel professional and had been back from my most recent trip when I visited Mezzaluna. Thank you for another wonderful throwback to Italy!!! How I miss that experience when I am home. However, when I need a fix, I know where to go, Mezzaluna, Half Moon Bay. Looking forward to my next visit. Perfect.

We chose Mezzaluna because we needed a restaurant that could accommodate 9 on a Saturday night, that was accessible from both SF and the Peninsula, and for an 80th birthday, so not too loud or trendy. It was perfect - they prepared a long table overlooking the harbor, the service was excellent - helpful but not rushed, friendly and accommodating. The menu was quite classic (my husband said not too exciting) but everything was wonderful, made with quality fresh ingredients. Timing was good, too, with no long pauses between drinks (excellent Negronis), and the courses, but not rushed. The wine list was interesting. Overall, it was a great meal and we would return.

This restaurant exceeded our expectations. We arrived early but were warmly greeted and seated promptly. Three of us ordered the swordfish, one chose the half-chicken on a bed of risotto, and one ordered the shrimp andouille entree. All were delicious and nicely presented by our friendly waiter and staff. We will return!

I tried Mezza Luna based only on good online reviews and was not disappointed. This is authentic Italian! However, it's clear they also serve regulars as a neighborhood restaurant: we saw people coming in for takeout, there are good options for kids on the menu, and the bar area was full of those watching the game. Our server did not check on us frequently enough, but the food and especially the desserts left us with no complaints at all, eager to come back!

Chicken Saltimboca was like rubber. The "gravy" over it tasted like it came out of a can. The Patralie sole was burnt, and dry. The clams and linguini came with mostly with empty shells. When empty shells were mentioned to the waiter, instead of offering something else, he made excuses. When asked to take a photo, he couldn't get it over with fast enough. Hence, no flash, poor photo. The doors and tables were so dirty, if you touched them, your hands were sticky. When I went to wash my hands, the bathroom was even dirtier and smelled really bad. There is very little seafood on the menu. "Chocolate souffle" was a small warmed up molten chocolate cake. AVOID THIS PLACE!

We were hosting friends to celebrate their 50th and Mezzaluna helped us by giving us the best table in the house, in the corner, looking towards the water. The restaurant is not crowded at lunch and we were able to have lovely, quiet conversations. Service was off and on. It took some time to get even water service. However, once the food arrived, it was mostly very good. I've read pros and cons opinions on their version of a Ceasar salad. I, personally, am in the con side but another at our table really enjoyed it. We'll be back. The menu, while tattered, has lots of good choices.

An ample parking lot and a lovely walk if you want to get closer to the bay....! Food has always been wonderful. We had a 5pm reservation and were seated at a window that was open with a lovely breeze- in view of the harbor. Service was polite and attentive-not rushed or overbearing. Salads and seafood fresh and delicious. I had a veal dish and my husband a rib dish-with delicious creme brulee with berries and lemon sorbet. The resteraunt was much fuller when we left- but we appreciated the privacy for our first anniversary with Andrea Boccelli music piped in, but not too loudly :)

I would rate this restaurant no higher than a B. The service was outstanding. The ample bread they brought to the table was incredibly delicious with a tasty soft inside and crunchy crust. The view was very nice and it is a very relaxing place to dine. The food was good, not great. I had the pizza margherita - nice crust, pretty tasty, but only one small leaf of basil, and it was pretty salty. My wife had a broiled salmon - it tasted a little fishy and the texture made me think that it was not that fresh.

First let me say the service was really great. The food was not. We were out driving around and wanted a great dinner. The Open Table reviews said this was it. IT IS NOT! The Caprese salad used flavorless tomatoes and bland cheese. The main seafood dishes tasted flavorless - frozen. Not fresh as this restaurant is located next to the sea.
